He thinks he is being funny and my friend, but the things he says is just ridiculous and rude. I have completely stopped going here all toghether for this reason. I heard good things about this place so I decided to take my daughter for brunch, as I walked in I was greeted by the little old guy that everyone talks about. He was polite and very smiley. As I walked to the restroom, We observed 3 nicely dressed gentlemen sitting down at a table and were singing Spanish songs obnoxiously loud, my daughter then asked , "why are those men playing with salt"? As I glanced over I couldn't believe my eyes, they were snorting cocaine out in the open! A lot of cocaine! I was really uncomfortable and decided I should tell the owner (gray haired man) but that option soon changed after I witnessed him sitting down with the 3 gentlemen and patting them on the back while they continued to do drugs out in the open in the middle of the day , inside a family restaurant! 4.5 stars!!! I have only been here for the Sunday Brunch but that is enough to keep me coming back. $18 for buffet and unlimited champagne/mimosa and $12 for buffet only. The buffet is small (thats why they only got 4.5 stars) but all of the food is really good and fresh. Its a mix of American style (eggs, bacon etc) and Mexican (menudo, chilaquiles, etc). The chilaquiles are delicious!!! They serve real bacon too, not those wimpy slices. The service is superb, prompt and efficient. I rarely have to have for a refill of champagne. The champagne they serve is actually good without the OJ. Usually places serve it with oj to cover up the crappy champagne but this place doesnt need to. Its also very cool that they have a full bar and at least 6 flat screens to watch football. The owners are very very nice and helpful. I have come back several times (bringing new customers and they have all been very pleased) and will continue to do so in the future. read more

Walked in the waiter insisted we sit at a 2 chair table (you know those little tables you can barely have two plates on) we said no we want a 4 seat table, mind you there were 2 other couples there at a 4 seat table but he was telling us we had to sit at the small table because it was only 2 of us (did not make sense) clean your dirty tables and you'll have more room. Food was really good, drinks were ok, but the service was TERRIBLE. Watch out and review the bill carefully because they'll overcharge like crazy.... Unless they have some really expensive soup there. Who charges $10 for tortilla soup?!! Back when I worked in Downey, I would visit Mambo 2 or 3 times a week. The Carne Asada tacos have yet to meet their match in my book. As the other reviews say, the owner is one of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met. I must say that I LOVE Mambo Grill! The food is very delicious and the staff especially the owner are great friendly people. This place is awesome! I was about to go to the bar next door (same ol' Joseph's), but I came here instead on a Friday night because I saw a live conjuntó. Doesn't get ridiculous packed to the point where you can't dance, which is a good thing, in my opinion. Drinks are cheap too! It was a fun, chill night. Then I came again on a Sunday because I heard their brunch was good. Indeed it was! Their birria was on point! And I love that they leave the bottle of champagne and juice for you to serve yourself instead of having to wait for a waiter to come refill you. The owner is super friendly too! After my traffic court appearance (ugh) I decided to roam around downtown Downey to find a place to treat myself for surviving my third traffic court date in the last 4 years (ugh X 10). It was still early but I wanted to squeeze as much as I could out of my half day off work. My first choice was Peking, since I've been meaning to try it for a while. Even though it was already 11:30 AM and they're supposed to open at 11 sharp, the place was still closed and all staff was sitting around chatting. Instead I ended up going across the street to Mambo. The place is smaller than the facade leads you to believe. The owner is a cheerful dude who seems to be always singing and whistling, and service overall is great. I ordered a wild berry & banana smoothie, which oh-so-great and was oh-so-refreshing... especially on a hot summer morning such as today's. I also order a cuban sandwich, consisting of an extra tender piece of carnitas pork, a piece of ham, cheese and pickles in panini-style bread. It was good but would benefit greatly from some type of garnish or dipping sauce. read more

The food was very good. I had the 4 tacos & a beer. The meat was very juicy and tender. The beer was so cold I loved how smooth it was. My girl had the grilled chicken that comes on pita bread and fries. The chicken was well seasoned and so thin but very very good. Tried this spot for the first time for the Sunday brunch buffet. Menudo & birria were absolutely delicious! Employees are constantly making sure that you have everything you need.
