Oh joy, if Chuck E. Cheese's hit puberty, traded animatronic rats for overpriced cocktails, and decided to torture adults with "fun," you'd birth Mamajuana Restaurant. It's the grown-up nightmare version of that pizza hellhole--blaring chaos, zero organization, and hordes of tone-deaf revelers belting "Happy Birthday!" to people they've never met, like it's a mandatory cult ritual. Earplugs not included; bring your own if you fancy hearing yourself think. The wait staff? A masterclass in incompetence. Expect to wait 30 minutes on a Saturday night past your reservation to be seated. Once seated picture a gaggle of zombies glued to their phones, swapping selfies and TikToks while your table starves. Experience level: apparently "none," judging by the botched orders, glacial drink service, and bewildered stares when you dare request water. "Super bad service" doesn't cut it--it's weaponized laziness. Signature drinks? More like signature disappointments--mine was so diluted it could hydrate a desert, while my dates was a throat-punching firebomb that screamed "bad decisions ahead." Portions? Short on the protein and long on the starchy for those wallet-gouging prices. I had the steak picanha, if that was the cut? Should be triangular cut of beef from the top sirloin with a thick fat cap on one side. Chilly slices of chewy meat tougher than a bad breakup and twice as disappointing. They used a kitchen torch table side to melt the puck of butter it's served with. During this little bit of flare they set the sprig of rosemary on fire making the pieces under taste like burnt twigs. YIKES! Top it off with their genius 1 hour 40 minute eviction timer--because nothing says "hospitality" like treating diners like expired parking meters. So many staffers, so little actual attention to the basics in customer service; it's like they hired extras for a bad reality show. My first time here, I'm beyond is great, music is great at atmosphere is great. However, what I really want to get into are those drink! My partner had the stuffed fried fish. Superb! If I could do this restaurant over again, this is certainly what I would've ordered, the oxtail was nice as well. But nothing compared to the amount of flavors that the fish packed. The drinks were very alcohol forward, and I love that, they did not spare any liquor on the pour, which I've certainly appreciate, but the star of the show wasn't a couple of drinks that we had but the fish, the shrimp in the fish and I believe the noodles or rice that were at the bottom that completed the meal. The entire thing was a knockout and one that we ended up eating at a later date. There is some positive here but they are severely outweighed by the negatives. Start from the top. Parking in the area is $25. But Valet for the restaurant is also $25 so you might as well valet. But if $25 too steep the casino is across the street. We had a party of 9. Reservations for 12:45. Stood in the foyer for a good 20-25 minutes after. Music loud asl. You can tell when you step in someone made sure this place was photogenic. Seats was comfortable. Table was a little dirty still. 10 minutes seated just for the waiter to introduce himself. 10-15 more minutes before we were asked for drinks. My rum punch was strong n good. The watermelon mocktail was also very good. $12 and $15 for those. The time in between receiving the drinks, the waiter asking for food request and actually receiving it was a lil too much. Too much staff to not move at a faster pace. Pause before I get to the food. So it's my sister birthday. They come around with a sign and they sing or whatever. But the money hungry grab tactic they use, is to get this you have to either buy a dessert or a shot. She chose the shot. How much was the shot? $18. . Food arrives. Red Snapper best thing on the menu without a doubt. And it's enough to take home. Everything else was something for the moment. Fish was great but the shrimp inside it had little flavor. They needed a little more seasoning. Oxtails was fire too but they're the little tiny ones. Like it's a kids meal. The rice and peas was good too. Mashed potatoes was horrible. Tostones was weak. No flavor to it. Dominican breakfast. Fried cheese was made right but it just wasn't all tht. I had better out the corner store. I switched the eggs to scrambled with cheese. Horrible idea. They needed that up. The mongu was disgusting. I can't explain it. It just seemed like overcooked. And I found a long hair in the first bite but we aint send it back. The yuca mongu thing with the steak in it. It was pretty good. Wasn't hot though. It was warm. Once again took too long to even get this food so we didn't complain. I can't give a yea or nay on the waiters. They really don't give waiter to me outside of taking your order. 1/2 the party is still eating but some are done. A server comes and collects our empties. A lil later another server comes around and tries to grab the plate with food still on it. Hand on plate and then ask was we done. As a matter fact no we aren't. It's a way to do things and they did that wrong. Check comes. Automatic 20% gratuity. Now I see why service was lackluster. I would not recommend this spot. Let me start by saying the inside of this place is beautifully designed. Plenty of seating and nice size bar. We ordered the pork belly croquettes as an appetizer. Sooooo good. I ordered the oxtail and my fiancé ordered the chicken cordon bleu. There was so much flavor in the dishes. I do wish it was served hotter (as in temperature). When you eat oxtail you want them to be steamy. The service overall was good though, pretty quick. Our waitress was soft spoken, but she was very kind and attentive. Parking is a big issue here. We parked at the casino across the street. I think they offer valet parking, but we decided to just park there. Another issue is that they charge $20 if you cancel a reservation. Once entering we registered our reservation and was in awe of the decoration, the music, the energy, and vibe. It was very aesthetically pleasing with a sophisticated Caribbean vibe. Once seated we ordered our drinks, which were delicately created ensembles. They were also delicious. The food on the other hand was just okay. I heard from others prior to patronizing that for the prices and the food taste and quality didn't match, and now I agree with that statement. This was our first time going here. We came out with a large group for someone's birthday and had good experience. The vibe there is cool, giving a bit of an island like feel, dim lighting at night with a DJ playing music. Food was really good - large portions, flavorful and well seasoned. We shared the Fried Calamari as an app, he got the Fettuccine Oxtail while I ordered the Yucafongo with Shrimp and Lobster for our entrees. Then my cousin let us try a piece of the Mamajuana Roll. For drinks, I got a Passion Fruit Margarita then a Mai Tai - I should've stuck with the passion fruit marg the whole time, but only because I think Mao Tai just isn't my drink. But the drinks were made well. Though I was prepared since I looked at the menu beforehand, the options can feel/seem a bit pricey for some people so maybe check out the options before you go. Upon being seated the menus are presented on individual tablets; it was very easy to navigate. The drink menu offered unique cocktails as well as traditional ones. I was pleased with my drink, it was unique, tasted delicious but wasn't very strong. For my meal I ordered the Camaron Con Con, which was a special menu item. It tasted pretty good, but could have used a tad bit more flavor. My friend ordered the NY Strip Steak and it was grilled to perfection and the presentation was great . For the birthday girl they played "the birthday song" and brought out the signs and sparklers which I thought was super cute. We went to Mamajuan at like 11:00 at night. No reservation needed but I recommend making one. Walking in they have a beautiful photo props for you to take photos. The decore is really nice inside. The lights are dim and make everything a really lovely ambiance. They had a live Dj that played great music. The service was a little slow but the waiter was nice and got our orders right. Unfortunately we forgot to take a picture of the mamajuana roll. It was so good, not your typical sushi roll. My husband ordered the pork tomahawk with the bacon Mac and cheese (of course I had to taste it) which was amazing. The pork was juicy and tender and the Mack and cheese was really cheesy and delicious. My skirt steak was cooked to perfection. They gave this chimichurri sauce that was really good with the steak but the steak didn't need it. The rice and black beans were also good. The black beans had a really good flavor to them. Mamajuana is a hot spot for snapping pics for the 'gram, seat-dancing to an incredibly loud (especially for a Sunday evening) DJ, and having insubstantial shouting conversations across the table. As other reviewers have noted, each time a birthday is celebrated, the volume is jacked up and never brought back down. Would definitely recommend if you're not very hungry, you don't like the people you're going to dinner with, but you want some content for your social media feed. Unfortunately while the food looks pretty enough on the plate, it severely lacked seasoning (even salt!), to the point where we had to ask for salt/pepper and hot sauce to give it any sort of flavor. I visited this restaurant when it was Blue Fin and I loved it! So, I was happy to see a new restaurant at the same location. Plus my friend mentioned great things about MamaJuana. We opted to have our Christmas Eve dinner here at 4:00 pm. We usually try to eat early so we have time to chill and relax later in the evening. We arrived around 3:58 and the front door was locked. Employees were scurrying about not making any eye contact with us or the other patrons that were waiting outside. A manager appeared around 4:03 or so and opened the door with a beautiful smile and early Christmas greeting. As we approached the host stand, we saw a couple discussing their reservation + bday dinner. I thought it was odd that a couple was locked in the restaurant while the rest of us were locked out of the restaurant. Anyway, I gave the name for our reservation and we were seated 2-3 mins later. The restaurant itself is decorated beautifully. The tables are large, seating is plentiful and the atmosphere is unique. Our waiter greeted us and asked if we decided on drinks. I opted to dry the Lychee Martin. My partner had an old fashioned. For an app, I asked for the empanada trio, which consisted of a chicken, beef and shrimp empanada. Our waiter advised they only had chicken. So, I asked if they had the skewer sampler (2 beef skewers, 1 chicken, and 2 shrimp). He obliged. Our drinks arrived maybe 5 mins later. My martini was strong (the way I like 'em) and delicious. My partner liked his old fashioned. Our skewers arrived about 10-12 mins later. I started with my beef skewer. The beef was tender, seasoned and delicious. The chicken was good also. However, the shrimp wasn't memorable. I'm not sure about the dipping sauce that was served. It tasted like a cocktail sauce. I don't believe it paired well with any of the meats other than the shrimp. I think the restaurant should offer a sweet Thai chili sauce since that usually pairs well With beef, chicken or seafood. Next up, our entrees. I wanted to try the oxtails. Now, let me say I have thee worst luck with it comes to restaurant entrees. I usually don't have the pleasure of getting the first option I choose at most restaurants, so I always have a back-up plan option. Mamajuana kept my streak going. I wanted to try the oxtails, the waiter said they ran out. Now, how do you run out of oxtails for Christmas Eve dinner?!! I'll never know. I would think the restaurant would have made extra oxtails in anticipation of both, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (they had Christmas Day brunch reservations too). Thus, my back-up was the MamaJuana Pernil. My partner went with the Chicken Cordon Blue. The entree wait wasn't that long. We were excited to get the additional food and ordered another round of drinks. Our food arrived and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the pernil. I basically received 1/2 or a large pork shoulder or maybe an entire small pork shoulder along with rice and tostones. I knew I wouldn't even make it through 1/4 of my pernil. However, I gave a valiant effort. My partner really liked his cordon blue. He finished all of it. I asked if he wanted some pernil and he mentioned it was too much. Haha. Now, back to my pernil. The meat was tender, flavorful and juicy. I truly enjoyed the meat portion. But we know the best part of the pernil is the skin. I cut a piece of the skin and tasted it..I must say MamaJuana missed the mark completely. The skin was disgusting. It actually tasted like "pig" and even had a piggy smell. So, I concluded that the preparer really didn't do a good job with cleaning the pernil skin. I immediately removed the enter layer of skin and placed it on another plate. I never went near it again. The rice was dry and tostones were tasteless, flavorless and not good at all. Overall, I would say MamaJuana is an okay food option or maybe even a Happy Hour place. I wouldn't try the pernil ever again, but maybe if I were in the area I would give them another shot for drinks and light bites. I'm in no rush though. read more

The food was super good and the drinks were on point. I was surprised that not more people were dancing but I think we were there relatively early. I want to start by saying that I don't usually deduct this many stars from a restaurant for service, but this restaurant took the cake (not in a good way). We made a reservation and were seated a little earlier which was nice. We ordered yuca fries, red snapper (it came with tostones), and a pork dish. What followed was a full hour of waiting for our food and having to beg for drinks. The service was not good, although Sebastian did try to make an effort. To us, it seemed like the kitchen was in disarray. We asked for a manager and David, the manager, did everything he could to avoid us. Instead of coming over, he told the waiter they would deduct a couple of drinks from our bill. We demanded to have him come over and asked what else he could do to compensate us for waiting. He said he'd return but he never did. When we finally received our food, it was missing the yuca fries. So we had to wait additional time for that. I was surprised that I had to take apart my pork because it was a whole pork leg! I didn't enjoy that process, but overall my dish was delicious. The red snapper was also really tasty but my partner felt like it wasn't the weight advertised. For dessert, we chose the coconut tres leche which was fantastic!! The atmosphere is fun, instagrammable, and modern. It is a pretty large restaurant. It seems as though they have certain times where they sing happy birthday in groups to all the birthday people in the restaurant. Let me first start this review by saying that I have dined with this restaurant countless times. It has gotten to the point where we have come to know some of the waiters/waitresses on a first name basis. However, my most recent dining experience truly left a terrible taste in my mouth as well as many of my guests, some of which dined here for the first time. I made a reservation for 15 people to celebrate my child's birthday. For context, my child has been to the restaurant numerous times and enjoys the birthday celebration that the entire staff performs. The reservation was made a week prior and was set for 3:15pm. My entire party arrived at the restaurant on time as we could not be seated unless the entire party was present. However, we were not seated until just before 4:30pm. To say that I was beyond embarrassed is an understatement. To be the person to plan this outing, make the reservation, and provide a time for people to come to the restaurant just to have them wait almost an hour and a half is absurd and should never happen under any circumstance. Multiple times I spoke with the host at the front desk to inquire about why this was the case and we were told multiple times that another party was still sitting where they intended to seat us. At no point did this seem to be of an urgency that we had been waiting so long for a table that we reserved a week in advance. At no point did a manager come to us to apologize, or simply even accommodate us by placing us at one of the other sections of the restaurants where seats were open and could accommodate a party this large. After finally being seated, our waitress (can't recall her name) was very welcoming and did her best to make the most of the circumstance knowing that there was some level of frustration caused by the long wait. Initially, as an apology to the group, we were offered free shots of liquor. Once people in the party started to order their shot of choice, we were then told that it could only be a mamajuana shot or house liquor shot. This in and of itself was an annoyance. If you're offering anything on the house as a sorry for the long wait, maybe make it known from the start what you are offering instead of allowing people to order something only to then break it to them that what they ordered is not possible to have. Fast forwarding to the end, my child has a lot of food allergies, and as a result we baked a cake to bring to the restaurant to sing happy birthday. The restaurant was totally fine with this and it was discussed prior to bringing the cake that it was okay to do. We sang happy birthday (after the check and tip had already been provided) and immediately started feeling rushed by the restaurant. We were so rushed, that we were denied a fork for my child to eat a small piece of cake before exiting the establishment. The waitress told us that she was not allowed to give us a fork. I find it beyond rude that you're rushing us out of the restaurant, and can't provide a minor a fork to eat a couple pieces of cake after having the entire party wait an hour and a half almost to be seated for a reservation made a week in advance. Anytime the waitress is essentially walking us out the door while apologizing for the way we were treated during our times says a lot. The ambiance of the place is great, and the food is really good too, however, my knock on this place at times has been the service which isn't the greatest. Needless to say, the service during this particular dining experience was terrible. I haven't been back since, and at this point I am unsure if I will be going back anytime soon. read more

Also, if you go for a birthday that dirt cake plant pot is definitely charged to the bill. Anywho, our server was cool and personable but you could tell he was STRETCHED: forgetting things, running around back and forth, randomly vanishing for long periods of time. The food was...okay. I had the red snapper that came with tostones and it wasn't bad. My table had some complaints about the lack of salt. Delightful experience. Food was delicious, service was great, and ambiance was charming. Had the octopus entree and the calamari appetizer, both excellent and cooked perfectly (not always easy with octopus, especially). Would definitely recommend and, as an added bonus, it's super handy to the Fillmore and Brooklyn Bowl and other venues in that area. read more

My cousins I went for one of their birthdays. For brunch. It was fun! When I say I love love loooove this place, the Ambiance, the food, the service! 10 out of 10! Highly recommend! It was not just a vibe it was an experience. It's March now and as long as they are still open I am going for my birthday March 2026! Lol read more

So sad, i was very excited to try this place finally! I wanted it to be 5 stars... The ambiance and decor were magical, the cocktails were balanced and fun and the DJ? On point! However, it is very poorly managed... The staff; servers, bartenders etc were very pleasant and sweet. How though if the server misheard or ordered the wrong dish is it my problem? It's been awhile but after 10 yrs of working in restaurants i haver NEVER come across this? AITA? The plate was refused before hitting the table! I couldn't send it back and i had to pay for it even though it wasn't my fault? Items (beverages and food alike) took quite a while to bring out (server was so nice, kept checking in on us) . No manager ever stopped by the table to check or explain at any time. There was also more expectation of flavors and less salt. So bummed... read more

For starters, Mamajuana is a chain Dominican restaurant. I've been to the ones in New York, Elizabeth, NJ and Woodbridge, NJ. The newly opened one in Philadelphia maintains the same type of aesthetics and menu as the others. I'll start off with the service. Unfortunately, it could be better and a bit less scattered. The host staff was welcoming and accommodating but we waited so long to be seated, I would say a half hour over our allotted reservation time. They did offer us a complimentary shot of Mamajuana, on the house, for the inconvenience. Once we were finally seated, the waiter seemed to be in his own world, didn't speak much. Zero interpersonal skills. He was kind though and accommodating, not very attentive but did get us what we needed when we got him. I went in with very low expectations for the food because each location varies in tasting (the importance of a good chef!) For appetizers we had the empanadas and the skewers. I found the skewers to be OK and the empanadas solid, a bit over seasoned, but good. The empanadas came with what I believe to be a cilantro based sauce and it was phenomenal! Ate that with everything else I had! Then for the main course, I had the Yucafongo with Churrasco and wow! Absolutely delicious! I always tend to get the mofongo, so wanted to switch it up and I'm so glad that I did! I highly recommend this dish! The flavors were phenomenal and add that green sauce that came with the empanadas, oof kudos to the chef! I will highlight the drink as well. I had a lychee based drink with vodka and it was super good. Recommend this as well for those who prefer vodka. A note on parking, they charge $25 for valet that after the lot fills up parks your car in the street. Just get there early and look for parking yourself because that's ridiculous. I went with a group of 7 and we spent about $100 each (tip was included). This was with appetizers, drinks, entrée and a shot each. Overall, 3.5 stars. read more

I went here for brunch with my bestie and it was so nice! The ambience was really good. The vibe was there and it was very instagram worthy! Usually when you see places that's cute for instagram the food isn't good. However, this place was the exception, the food was really freaking good! The service was on point. The manager even came to our table to ask if we were enjoying ourselves. I can't wait to come back. read more

I dined here with a group for a birthday dinner. We were all very excited to try a new restaurant. We had reservations but had to wait for like 30+ minutes to be seated. We got drinks while we waited and they were very good! While we waited we noticed that they go around to about 10 tables to do a festive and lively birthday song! I loved the cool song and celebration- however after like the 30th time- it could be kind of annoying- LOL! ;) Once we were seated, we placed our order for drinks and apps. They came out fairly quick and everyone seemed pleased. We got empanadas and garlic shrimp- tasty! We ordered our entrees and and we all agrees that the food was pretty good. I ordered the branzino which was also good but the side of mashed potatoes was dry and needed a little flavor. We had celebratory shots and packed up our doggy bags. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would recommend to others but just know there will be 30+ birthdays songs during your visit. read more

It is SO LOUD in there, like a nightclub but worse. We were screaming just to hear each other and I got hoarse by the end of the night. They have this extremely loud, annoying birthday song that they play and it seemed like everyone's birthday. Just constant. The decor was pretty, the food was pretty good (oxtail) and so was the service but I would never go there for a date again due to the noise. Annoying!!!!!! read more

Great service, tasty drinks, and amazing food - all for a good price! The lemon drop on the happy hour menu was delicious. For food we got the HH mama roll. I'm not usually one to eat steak in my sushi but this just worked! The roll was lightly fried and not overly sauced. The tostones mar y tierra were also a favorite, along with the fish ceviche. The beef carpaccio was a bit disappointing as I didn't really taste the truffle at all. The outdoor / indoor seating near the bar was so pretty and overall a great vibe. Will definitely be back with girlfriends in the future! read more
