I was in the area and had marked this spot down to try, so I ordered a pork mofongo to go, went in to pick it up, and as I was waiting, I saw the maduros and they were calling my name, so I got an order of those too. Prices are very reasonable for restaurant food, I think, and the quality is absolutely there. They have all the food in heated pans at the front, though the mofongo had to be prepared separately. When I ate the food later on, everything was absolutely delicious. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely order again! Inside, there are a few TVs, and you order at the counter even if sitting in for a meal. Looks clean and cozy enough, and I would imagine fairly crowded at the right times, but I was there mid/late afternoon, so I only saw one table w/ a customer eating. My oxtail stew dish was really good! I haven't had oxtails for a while now and was a bit hesitant after reading a great review as well as a not so great one. I'm here to add another well-deserved, glowing review because this meat was sweet, tender, and succulent just like how oxtail stew should taste. I am particularly impressed by how well they've managed to reduce the bone shard content. If I were to get oxtail stew from a myriad of other places, it would likely contain bone shards here and there. The portion size is huge and I was going to save half the stew for a second meal, but it was so finger-licking good that I treated myself to that second helping. I got yellow rice to accompany my meal and what the online ordering sites don't tell you is you actually get a side of beans, too, so that's like a second side. I had the goat platter (a sample of the goat meat with plenty of salad greens, fresh tomato, white rice and black beans, with just a few platanos). To drink, I had pineapple juice! The doors and windows were open, and the ambiance was so relaxing and fun. I was reminded of Sunday dinners in Muskogee, OK at my grandmother's house, down-home and tasty food, baseball on the telly, and plenty of space to chat. The goat was extraordinary: juicy, perfectly spiced, and JUST enough to fit on the plate with the rest of the generous portions of veggies. The service was kind and so helpful: the counter server/chef made a veggie platter for my friend, and she was also totally delighted with the taste and portion sizes. The chicken look like it had yellow dye on it. The rice and beans were salty not flavorful. The sauce for the beans was extremely watery. Parada Maimon is a double threat. Good food and good prices. Everything here is super cheap at dinner time and they practically give away their lunch specials free of charge at lunch time. The portion sizes are huge here but I always like to order some French fries or empanadas to start the meal. Both are fried to perfection. My favorite entries are the ox tail stew and pork mofongo. The ox tail is always so tender and served with a massive heap of rice and beans. I also go with yellow rice and black beans. Mofongo is always on the dry side so I like to pour the entire bowl of sauce on and then wait for a minute for the sauce to soak in before I tear in. The pork and plantains are compressed into a container before serving so once you start breaking it apart with your fork you will realize that you are probably dealing with close to a pound of plantains and pork. I have also started to experiment with their fresh juices. I am a huge fan of the mango and papaya juices. They also have these tiny little fruit mentas they tuck into the checkbook. I cannot get enough of those little candies. I am tempted to buy a 1,000 count bag online. Someone stop me from clicking the checkout button, or just take me back to Parada Maimon. read more

This place will always hold a special place in my heart. It serves up tasty Dominican food at a price point that can't be beat. I usually get take out but they have plentiful seating indoors and outdoors seating on these cute little tree stumps. My go-to orders are the oxtail stew and pork mofongo. The oxtail has plentiful portions of meat that are tender and fall off the bone, and it comes with a large portion of yellow rice and beans. I personally love the mofongo, which pairs with sauce on the side. It's a huge portion and quite dense with the plantain and pork mixed throughout, but it's so good that I have no trouble devouring the whole thing. It's not often that I throw away my food after just a few bites. It's also rare for me to write a horrible review on Yelp. Alas, the let-down that I felt from Parada Maimon is such that I'm compelled to point out some flaws in hope that the owners would use them to improve the quality of their food in the future. Today, I ordered paella, shrimp ceviche, and sweet plantains. All of these ended up in my trash after I decided I'd rather see them wasted rather than ingested. The first sign of quality issue I spotted was the closed shells of the clams and mussels in my paella. Thankfully, the bivalves weren't rotten upon being pried open. They were, however, very rubbery and far too dry to be considered as edible. The yellow rice of the paella was also too salty even for my taste. I felt jibbed at the fact that this dish costed over $20 despite the sub-par quality. Heck, they even used imitation crab meat in it. As far as shrimp ceviche goes, I could only taste the strong acidity of the marinade. In fact, it was far too sour for anyone to eat without washing their mouths down with water after each bite. Of all the dishes I ordered, the sweet plantains were probably the biggest disappointment since it's supposed to be the bread and butter of the Caribbean and Central American cuisine. Although the sweetness was present with each bite, the bananas weren't evenly caramelized. Even if it's a side dish, its lackluster quality showed the restaurant's poor effort in ensuring their customer satisfaction. I really wanted it to be the one redeeming dish from the disastrous trio that I ordered. Sadly, it wasn't. I don't know if seafood isn't their strong suit, but I will reserve my curiosity for a different epicurean venue. read more

The food seemed old, particularly the ceviche which had a very grainy texture. This is my second time ordering food from the restaurant. The food here is top-notch quality and VERY authentic!! Everything I have ordered reminds me of home. My mother is Puerto Rican and she is not local, therefore any time I can get some "homestyle" cooking I am brought to my happy place. I have ordered the Pollo guisado (Stewed chicken), arroz con gandules (yellow rice with pigeon peas), arroz blanco con habichuelas (white rice and red beans), pastelitos (fried patties) pargo (snapper), and maduros (sweet plantains). All very well seasoned!!! I cannot comment on the dining services because I have ordered takeout each time. The interior of the restaurant is quaint and I look forward to being able to enjoy a dining experience there one day. Keep in mind that they are BYOB. The portions are grand so be prepared and have a heavy appetite. The prices are more than fair. I honestly think they could probably get away with charging a bit more for the size portions that they provide. and I'm definitely not complaining because I appreciate being able to get great quality food at a more than fair price and enjoy several meals from one purchase. And Parada Maimon looked to fit the ticket (and I didn't even consult the Yelp reviews prior). And, they even had a large flat screen TV for us to continue to view the Philadelphia festivities still going on at the Art Museum. We ordered the Ropa Vieja and the Coconut Fish. Absolutely disgusted with the way I was treated in this restaurant. I really wanted to like this place. I was in town visiting Philly, and I searched many reviews and came across this place. When the lady looked at me she then proceeded to ask if I wanted to eat here or to go, but in broken English. I looked at her and I said ma'am I also speak Spanish. You don't have to speak to me in English. She then asked what did I want and the conversation continued in Spanish and I've been told her that I wanted a morir sonando. When I told her this is what I want it, she looked at me and said well we have to prepare that and I said OK that's fine. Go ahead and prepare it all in Spanish still. When I get ready to check out, I asked the guy if he was the boas and this entire exchange I'm speaking in Spanish he only responds to me in English and refuses to speak to me in Spanish. That it was very rude how I was not acknowledged, and how no one helped me when I came to order, but they help the person behind me without even acknowledging my presence. He then begins to say well what I thought happened was I ask my wife if you have been help that she told me yes I know this was a lie because I heard the conversation that they were having in Spanish and not one time did they asked if I needed help if I have been served or anything the issue here is they just automatically assumed because of the color of my skin that I did not speak nor understand Spanish, but much to their surprise, their home country Dominican Republic the entire country is filled with Black people just like me who speak Spanish. I continue to speak to him in Spanish as he continued to respond to me only in English and I let him know how disrespectful that was to just assume and then just ignore me especially a first time customer and that's the welcoming environment that I get. the only thing he said to me was, I'm sorry and left it at that. I am completely disgusted and I will never return to this restaurant again and I hope others take note of this and realize that if you are a darker skin Latino you will not get served just as lighter skin Latinos would. It's so so good. When we want the feel of a home cooked meal but don't feel like cooking, we'll order the rotisserie style family meal. I haven't really ventured away from that because it's such a perfect balance of savory and sweet and hits all the notes. You also get 2 cans of soda with the order. I have been very fortunate to live around the corner from Parada Maimon for almost a year. It's a great place and the atmosphere is so refreshingly different from corner restaurants in the area. The prices are very reasonable as well so I can get a lot of food if I want it. The service is usually very fast for bringing out water, food, and the check. They are pretty friendly as well. I always get the half chicken special with either rice and beans, plantains, or steamed vegetables. Sometimes I get the pasteles en hoja. You have to specify the hoja because there are two types. They are awesome and very filling. I also sometimes get the mofongo. They are really big and also really really good. I love going to Parada Maimon for the great food and great service! read more
