Been there twice. Can't speak to authenticity as a person w no Dominican experience, but I can speak to yumminess & value. Went Once for lunch, once for breakfast. Everything I ate & drank was delicious. Breakfast was Tres Golpes - perfectly cooked egg over easy, over mashed plantains with fried salami and cheese. SO good - the egg over the plantains was an awesome new flavor combo for me. I had a tamarind juice, my wife had the passionfruit - both fresh & tasty. Service was also excellent. Lunch - I literally just pointed to what looked tasty, got it on my plate, and ate - everything was full of flavor. Prices are reasonable for the neighborhood. read more

I was in the area and had marked this spot down to try, so I ordered a pork mofongo to go, went in to pick it up, and as I was waiting, I saw the maduros and they were calling my name, so I got an order of those too. Prices are very reasonable for restaurant food, I think, and the quality is absolutely there. They have all the food in heated pans at the front, though the mofongo had to be prepared separately. When I ate the food later on, everything was absolutely delicious. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely order again! Inside, there are a few TVs, and you order at the counter even if sitting in for a meal. Looks clean and cozy enough, and I would imagine fairly crowded at the right times, but I was there mid/late afternoon, so I only saw one table w/ a customer eating. I wouldn't be opposed to it sometime other than having to pay for parking! read more

I don't write reviews...EVER. I order from this restaurant every week for their empanadas. Today I took a chance and ordered their Cuban Sandwich and of course once I got it I took a bite. It tasted great (at first) there was a lingering after taste and I also never ate it before. I opened it up and saw mold. MOLD. I called them and spoke to the manager who advised me to get a credit from DoorDash and reorder. They called me back saying if I ordered again I could get another sandwich. It's been 4 hours and I've been throwing up since. I tried calling back only to be met with arguing and being told "all the other sandwiches were good" and refusal when I asked if there's a number I could text the pictures to. DO NOT EAT HERE. read more

Love that this place feels like a hidden gem but they honestly deserve to be packed at all time. This place is INCREDIBLE and I am getting hungry just looking at the pictures. The two times I've gone I've ordered the fish chunks which come with rice and beans (so delicious!!). You must try their sweet plantains and their tres leches cake. I've tried bites of the oxtail and, as some who has practiced pescatarianism (at times loosely) for 5+ years, it makes me question everything. It's just so so good. Service is friendly and I love that they're BYOB. The prices are super reasonable for the portions and the quality of the eats!! read more

First time taking a dive into Dominican food and I wasn't disappointed at all. Popped into Parada Maimon right before a concert at the Underground arts. Perfect pre-entertainment meal. Wanted some DR food and thanks to Yelp! I found Prada Maimon. Cute corner establishment with street parking within walking distance. The staff was hands down welcoming, sweet and made you feel like family. They were so attentive and made you feel comfortable and didn't rush you for ordering. MALTA "Drink Choice" *So refreshing and needed with my meal, they even gave me a cup of ice but traditionally you just drink this straight up from the bottle. I haven't had this in forever. PASTELLIOS (CHEESE) **Been wanting this since June and finally got this. Gooey and the right amount of cheese and crispness. I had to order extra for later lol WHITE RICE & BLACK BEANS ***Portion was a lot and enough to have another meal the next day. Rice was soft and perfectly cooked, beans were good but I just wish sauce was a tad bit thicker and a little less sodium. SAUTÉED SHRIMP WITH ONIONS & PEPPERS ****Soooo seasoned, cooked well, even the juices were a great addition to the rice. Shrimp was good size and tasted amazing. I wonder if they have this in fried form bc I def would get that next time. FLAN *****Last but not least, the dessert. This was ok, I just wish it had more of a creamy texture and taste. Since I'm a baker, I'm a lil particular on desserts but maybe this is perfect for someone else. Presentation beautiful and caramel was a delight. I loved this spot and if I'm in town again, I would definitely revisit, the welcoming atmosphere made it worth coming back to in the near future. read more

Delicious food, great prices! We ate in but this place seems great for take out too. We loved the ropa vieja, oxtail, fish bites and plantains, as well as the passion fruit and tamarind drinks. I had this gem bookmarked for a bit and was happy to find myself close by. I made my way there, because today, I really needed some comfort food a la Dominicano!!!! There is plenty to choose from. Just go and let the scents guide you. As soon as I walked in I was so happy. It felt like home! Surprisingly, it was empty and sadly after eating the food. Y'all missing out! I took stock of the fare and the gentleman that helped me suggested the $10 plate of half a chicken , rice, beans, and a duo of sweet plaintains. I'm in!!!! Mira, the ribs looked good so I had to get some of those AND extra amarillos. This was take out, and the food was still warm. I appreciate the utensils and napkin, lots of places lack on that with takeout orders. Everything was delicious! Period! I'll be going there often, for sure! They have amazing family deals as well. Just go, it hits the spot!!! read more

My oxtail stew dish was really good! I haven't had oxtails for a while now and was a bit hesitant after reading a great review as well as a not so great one. I'm here to add another well-deserved, glowing review because this meat was sweet, tender, and succulent just like how oxtail stew should taste. I am particularly impressed by how well they've managed to reduce the bone shard content. If I were to get oxtail stew from a myriad of other places, it would likely contain bone shards here and there. The portion size is huge and I was going to save half the stew for a second meal, but it was so finger-licking good that I treated myself to that second helping. I got yellow rice to accompany my meal and what the online ordering sites don't tell you is you actually get a side of beans, too, so that's like a second side. I'll be visiting this place again soon! read more

Amazing customer service and even more amazing meals. Owner seems down to earth and cares about his customers

I visited with a friend, and we were NOT disappointed! I had the goat platter (a sample of the goat meat with plenty of salad greens, fresh tomato, white rice and black beans, with just a few platanos). To drink, I had pineapple juice! The doors and windows were open, and the ambiance was so relaxing and fun. I was reminded of Sunday dinners in Muskogee, OK at my grandmother's house, down-home and tasty food, baseball on the telly, and plenty of space to chat. The goat was extraordinary: juicy, perfectly spiced, and JUST enough to fit on the plate with the rest of the generous portions of veggies. The service was kind and so helpful: the counter server/chef made a veggie platter for my friend, and she was also totally delighted with the taste and portion sizes. I'm super-happy to recommend this place, and I'll be returning soon. read more

The restaurant needs to work on customer service. I felt rushed and when asked for certain things in the platter I was told "No". I didn't like how salty the food was. The chicken look like it had yellow dye on it. The rice and beans were salty not flavorful. The sauce for the beans was extremely watery. The worst part was I purchased the platter at 12pm and by 3pm my food was sour. I would never eat here again. Major disappointment. read more

Parada Maimon is a double threat. Good food and good prices. Everything here is super cheap at dinner time and they practically give away their lunch specials free of charge at lunch time. The portion sizes are huge here but I always like to order some French fries or empanadas to start the meal. Both are fried to perfection. My favorite entries are the ox tail stew and pork mofongo. The ox tail is always so tender and served with a massive heap of rice and beans. I also go with yellow rice and black beans. Mofongo is always on the dry side so I like to pour the entire bowl of sauce on and then wait for a minute for the sauce to soak in before I tear in. The pork and plantains are compressed into a container before serving so once you start breaking it apart with your fork you will realize that you are probably dealing with close to a pound of plantains and pork. I have also started to experiment with their fresh juices. I am a huge fan of the mango and papaya juices. They also have these tiny little fruit mentas they tuck into the checkbook. I cannot get enough of those little candies. I am tempted to buy a 1,000 count bag online. Someone stop me from clicking the checkout button, or just take me back to Parada Maimon. read more

This place will always hold a special place in my heart. It serves up tasty Dominican food at a price point that can't be beat. I usually get take out but they have plentiful seating indoors and outdoors seating on these cute little tree stumps. My go-to orders are the oxtail stew and pork mofongo. The oxtail has plentiful portions of meat that are tender and fall off the bone, and it comes with a large portion of yellow rice and beans. I personally love the mofongo, which pairs with sauce on the side. It's a huge portion and quite dense with the plantain and pork mixed throughout, but it's so good that I have no trouble devouring the whole thing. I highly recommend checking this place out for your Dominican fix! read more

I've eaten my fair share of Dominican food, but I'm far from an expert. However, my dining companion, who is Dominican and a pretty good cook, confirmed my thoughts about this place. It was just OK. The meats and rice tasted as expected. But, when I look at this picture there is nothing that makes me think, "Damn, that was incredible. I want more." My only strong dislike was the order of sweet plantains. I wish they were given more time to ripen and then cooked to a slightly crisp caramelization. Overall, it's solid Dominican food and probably good for takeout on a night where you don't feel like cooking. If you decide to go for lunch DO NOT order the mangu. Not because it isn't tasty. But, because you'll be at your desk all afternoon struggling to stay awake. Trust me. read more

The pernil has a lot of dry parts. It's mediocre. It taste like regular roast pork and lacks of typical pernil seasoning. Chicken mofongo is my favorite. It's moist and has a lot of shredded chicken. Highly recommend. Octopus salad which for me it's more to a ceviche . Very good and refreshing. Highly recommend . I should have read my own review for chicken pastellitos. It doesn't have much fillings. Sweet plantain is really good. It's sweet and not over charred. read more

Reasonably priced and authentic Dominican food. You can't beat the family combos in terms of value for the money, though the salads they come with could use better quality tomato and lettuce. Most food is in a hot case, so service is super fast. The memo is quite extensive, including all sorts of snacks, juices, entrees, and desserts. The ambiance is casual and perfectly on theme. It's not often that I throw away my food after just a few bites. It's also rare for me to write a horrible review on Yelp. Alas, the let-down that I felt from Parada Maimon is such that I'm compelled to point out some flaws in hope that the owners would use them to improve the quality of their food in the future. Today, I ordered paella, shrimp ceviche, and sweet plantains. All of these ended up in my trash after I decided I'd rather see them wasted rather than ingested. The first sign of quality issue I spotted was the closed shells of the clams and mussels in my paella. Thankfully, the bivalves weren't rotten upon being pried open. They were, however, very rubbery and far too dry to be considered as edible. The yellow rice of the paella was also too salty even for my taste. I felt jibbed at the fact that this dish costed over $20 despite the sub-par quality. Heck, they even used imitation crab meat in it. As far as shrimp ceviche goes, I could only taste the strong acidity of the marinade. In fact, it was far too sour for anyone to eat without washing their mouths down with water after each bite. Of all the dishes I ordered, the sweet plantains were probably the biggest disappointment since it's supposed to be the bread and butter of the Caribbean and Central American cuisine. Although the sweetness was present with each bite, the bananas weren't evenly caramelized. Even if it's a side dish, its lackluster quality showed the restaurant's poor effort in ensuring their customer satisfaction. I really wanted it to be the one redeeming dish from the disastrous trio that I ordered. Sadly, it wasn't. I don't know if seafood isn't their strong suit, but I will reserve my curiosity for a different epicurean venue. read more

This is my second time ordering food from the restaurant. The food here is top-notch quality and VERY authentic!! Everything I have ordered reminds me of home. My mother is Puerto Rican and she is not local, therefore any time I can get some "homestyle" cooking I am brought to my happy place. While the restaurant promotes itself as being Dominican, there are many Cuban and Puerto Rican style dishes on the menu. I have ordered the Pollo guisado (Stewed chicken), arroz con gandules (yellow rice with pigeon peas), arroz blanco con habichuelas (white rice and red beans), pastelitos (fried patties) pargo (snapper), and maduros (sweet plantains). All very well seasoned!!! I cannot comment on the dining services because I have ordered takeout each time. The interior of the restaurant is quaint and I look forward to being able to enjoy a dining experience there one day. Keep in mind that they are BYOB. The portions are grand so be prepared and have a heavy appetite. The prices are more than fair. I honestly think they could probably get away with charging a bit more for the size portions that they provide. and I'm definitely not complaining because I appreciate being able to get great quality food at a more than fair price and enjoy several meals from one purchase. And BONUS! This is a minority-owned small business. I'm all for supporting local small businesses! Wepa! read more

Every now and then you come across a meal that you will remember for the rest of your life. Unfortunately, I will remember this as quite possibly the worst meal I have ever had. The food seemed old, particularly the ceviche which had a very grainy texture. The only food that was semi-palatable was the fish chunks, which was likely due to the fact that it was fried and very salty. But some of the thicker fish chunks were undeniably raw. Even the rice tasted old. The service was decent, though it felt like they were hovering. Felt a bit like a hostage situation, as they watched us eat. I was only sick for a few days after, money well spent. read more

We stumbled in here headed back to our car after the Eagles Victory Parade! It's a bit away from the city center and casual. We needed a place to warm up, fill up on lunch, and use the facilities. And Parada Maimon looked to fit the ticket (and I didn't even consult the Yelp reviews prior). The lunch portions were huge, the food flavorful and delicious, prices inexpensive, and service pleasant. And, they even had a large flat screen TV for us to continue to view the Philadelphia festivities still going on at the Art Museum. We ordered the Ropa Vieja and the Coconut Fish. Both were accompanied with choice of Spanish or white rice as well as the choice of red or black beans. The one issue I had with the food was that it was too salty for my taste. read more

Absolutely disgusted with the way I was treated in this restaurant. I really wanted to like this place. I was in town visiting Philly, and I searched many reviews and came across this place. But when I walked in, I no longer felt as though I was even welcome in the first place. I stood at the counter for a solid five minutes and no one acknowledged me. A customer came in and stood behind me, and the minute she came in the lady that was at the front immediately acknowledged her and asked her in Spanish if she wanted her food here or to go. What I found interesting is that this girl walked in, stood behind me, and got acknowledge before I even was acknowledged this girl also said I'm sorry, but she was here before me. When the lady looked at me she then proceeded to ask if I wanted to eat here or to go, but in broken English. I looked at her and I said ma'am I also speak Spanish. You don't have to speak to me in English. She then asked what did I want and the conversation continued in Spanish and I've been told her that I wanted a morir sonando. When I told her this is what I want it, she looked at me and said well we have to prepare that and I said OK that's fine. Go ahead and prepare it all in Spanish still. When I get ready to check out, I asked the guy if he was the boas and this entire exchange I'm speaking in Spanish he only responds to me in English and refuses to speak to me in Spanish. That it was very rude how I was not acknowledged, and how no one helped me when I came to order, but they help the person behind me without even acknowledging my presence. He then begins to say well what I thought happened was I ask my wife if you have been help that she told me yes I know this was a lie because I heard the conversation that they were having in Spanish and not one time did they asked if I needed help if I have been served or anything the issue here is they just automatically assumed because of the color of my skin that I did not speak nor understand Spanish, but much to their surprise, their home country Dominican Republic the entire country is filled with Black people just like me who speak Spanish. I continue to speak to him in Spanish as he continued to respond to me only in English and I let him know how disrespectful that was to just assume and then just ignore me especially a first time customer and that's the welcoming environment that I get. the only thing he said to me was, I'm sorry and left it at that. I am completely disgusted and I will never return to this restaurant again and I hope others take note of this and realize that if you are a darker skin Latino you will not get served just as lighter skin Latinos would. Also. The pastelitos and morir soñando were bien mediocre. read more

After a week in Costa Rica, I came back to Philly still craving Caribbean food and Parada Maimon hit the spot just right -- with decent prices and hefty portions to boot! I've been here a few times now and highly recommend the lunch specials if you're there during the day, especially the beef stew. Everything comes with rice and beans. The maduros (or sweet plantains) complement the main meals just right, and the sauce on the side for the monfongo truly makes the dish.
