Sweet and salty, rainbow, caramel, cheddar... you name it - they have it. My first time in was this weekend while trolling Findlay Market for some corn. Luckily, I found mama's. HOWEVER - I watched and was disturbed as some unidentified man was popping and tossing kernels! It was, indeed, NOT MAMA. I think this might be false advertising or mama has someone doing her poppin' for her... Popcorn is likely one of the cheapest snacks you can possibly make. My husband and I was at Findlay Market and saw a Gourmet Popcorn joint. An employee was outside cleaning up and welcomed us to their store. She mentioned that they had samples if we wanted to try any. We definitely took her up on the offer. We tried the traditional sweet & salty kettle corn and the Habanero Kettle Corn. I was sold on the Habanero kettle corn. It wasn't too spicy but had a great kick with a hint of sweetness. So yummy! Mama Made It makes high quality (huge) mushroom style popcorn at the store. Everything is made fresh daily. Besides the Findlay Market location, their products are also sold at Fountain Square (May-September), Maderia Farmers Market (May-October), Great American Ball Park (During Reds Games), and Country Fresh Market. There are many flavors to choose from and they are gluten free. Here is what I saw at the store. Traditional Sweet & Salty Caramel Glazed Cheddar Mess Chicago Style Habanero and more! I am a girl in love with a city. No, not Cincinnati, unfortunately. I am head-over-heels for Chicago, all things Chicago and, as it turns out, even things just named for The Windy City. For instance, Mama Made It's Chicago mix is really the best kettle corn I've ever had the pleasure to eat. It's weird and it's delicious. I'll admit, when I discovered that it's a mix of caramel and cheese, my initial reaction was "no thank you." How close-minded of me. It is fantastic. Their other varieties are just as wonderful. The plain (although, I'm really hesitant to use the word "plain") kettle corn is sweet and savory. It's everything all the other kettle corns of the world wish they could be. We bought two bags of the stuff. Mama also made a chili and cheddar kettle corn mix and it is just as good as the Chicago mix and the plain. Deceptively unassuming, at first, the heat is barely noticeable. All you get is this spicy, cheddary goodness. But, then...the heat builds and kablam! a cheesy inferno. Mama Made It. Hands down this is the BEST Kettle Corn I have ever eaten. When I buy a bag, I am sure to have it finished in no time flat. This Kettle corn is separated from the other by simply the blend of sweet and salty on their ginormous popped kernels. I don't know how long they took finding the right combination but they definitely have it down. Each time you get a bag, it's the same delicious treat. They also have Carmel corn and a couple other specialty blends but I tend to be a purist and stick with the Kettle corn each time I purchase. I go to Findlay Market for my Mama Made It Kettle Corn on Saturday & Sundays but I know they also make appearances around town. I have noticed the popcorn will lose some of it's luster after a few days. So, I suggest eating within a 2-3 days or transferring it to a more sturdy plastic zipped bag. read more

This is truly a niche business, as they only sell popcorn! I probably wouldn't normally stop here, but I was doing some last minute Christmas shopping and needed a couple of stocking stuffers. And some gourmet popcorn fit the ticket. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how amazing the shop smells, since they make the popcorn right there. Then, like I said, this was last minute shopping so I wasn't going to deliberate too much over what I bought. However they insisted I sample the popcorn before I paid for it to make sure I was getting something I liked! I was really impressed with how much they cared about making sure I got something I would be happy with. The popcorn I bought was for a gift, but I was so impressed with the store and the sample I had that I will definitely be back to buy some of their delicious kettle corn for me some time! And in the future it will be a first thought for consumable gifts rather than a last minute stop. read more

This stuff is crack in a bag. I'd have never guess fresh kettle corn would be so much better. Usually caramel corn or one of it's cousins is so saturated with sucrose flavorings that it's a bit over whelming. With Mama Made It's Kettle corn, you can actually taste a balance between the popcorn and the flavors. The corn isn't cast in a sugary shell. The entire experience is different from anything you get at a ball game, at the mall, or from a little box with a sailor on it. When my family is shopping at Findlay the wife or kids usually want a bag of the stuff and get it. I roll my eyes as if to say "do we need more sugar in our lifes". And within 10 minutes I'm dipping my hand into the bag of fresh goodness. The only problem I have with the place is the name. Too many syllables. I can't rework the lyrics during a seventh inning stretch to "...Buy me some peanuts and Mama Made It Kettle Corn..." read more

I actually never, ever liked kettle corn until I had a sample outside Findlay Market one gorgeous fall day. The combination of salty and sweet was always incredibly unappealing to me... but then I heard the proprietor tell passersby to try a sample of Chicago style kettle corn. "Um, praytell... what is 'Chicago style'?" Expecting some sexual joke, I was pleased to hear, "It's caramel corn tossed in cheese powder." Before I could say, "Yes, kind sir, I would love to have a try!" I had emptied the little cup into my hand and popped a few pieces into my mouth. "YUM!" is an understatement. I don't know if Chicago invented this "style" of popcorn awesomeness, but I now have the urge to visit the Windy City. The Chicago Chamber of Commerce should pay Mama Made It Kettle Corn some commission for making a frigid concrete jungle turn into a delicious caramelly cheesy treat. Nom. read more

After munching on one of the little samples, I was hooked. Perhaps it was the charismatic gentleman behind the counter, perhaps it was the five varieties of kettle corn that satisfied any taste, perhaps I was just hungry. I bought a bag, then came back the following week and bought two more. To choose from were the following: caramel glazed, cheddar, sea salt, sweet & salty, and Chicago style. Being the curious muncher, I sampled the Chicago style: a savory blend of cheddar and caramel corn. It was addictive! Mama Made It was located in a red tent near the Farmer's Market at Findlay Market during the summer. I'm not sure where it went for the winter - I hear they are still at the market somewhere. If you know any Spanish, you know that "Mama Lo Hizo" is the translation for "Mama Made It"-- so of course when the owners opened a Mexican kiosk at Findlay Market, that is what they called it. The reason I'm mentioning it is that they NOW sell leftover kettle korn at the indoor Mexican kiosk, all week long! This is brilliant and makes them that much better. :) AND, since it's inside, they take debit/credit cards! read more
