Excellent portion sizes to boot. A great Chinese takeaway to really enjoy on a lazy Saturday night when you can't be bothered cooking but still want scrumptious treat food. Would highly recommend.

The setting is spectacular - this is a large building right on the edge of the River Bann, so ask when you are booking for a window table and you'll have a stunning view as you eat and drink. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive - a large, high ceiling room with a giant chandelier in the centre. So, what about the food? It certainly lives up to the setting. I would describe this as upmarket Chinese food rather than the kind of place to grab your Friday night sweet and sour. The prices reflect the setting and the quality and for special occasions I am more than happy to pay them. On our last visit I had satay chicken skewers and seaweed, both of which were top notch. I than had shredded chilli beef which I also loved, and the husband had king prawns in yellow bean sauce which I felt obliged to try and also really liked. We had side orders of special fried rice and noodles and I could have eaten either of these on their own. I was pleased to see that there is a tea time special menu at £9.95 for 3 courses which is outstanding value given the quality of food and the lovely service you get. The carryout itself is nice enough, I like the fish tank that you can check out while you wait but unfortunately I have always found that there will be a bit of a wait in this place. Even if you are getting food for one or two you can easily expect a wait of about 10-15 minutes, which I think is a little bit too much. The food is nice, if you like a basic chinese with not too many frills and spills then this place won't be a dissappointment. It has a good location, near to the main Rathgael Road as well as close proximity to an ATM, which I think is a good thing.

Pretty extraordinary if you ask me. Their curry is the only reason I go here if I am being honest and it is best thing on their menu...! Although I have it on very good authority the chow mein and black bean sauce and kung-po chicken are also worthy competitors. Their portions are also huge and their rice and noddles don't come in the usual silver tin packages that most Chinese restaurants use but the same bigger plastic cartons that the mains come in. I usually go for a delivery but over Christmas was here with a large party and they put is in a back room that was great and gave us some privacy, and meant other diners in main restaurant didn't have to listen to us! The owner is a lovely woman always smiling and happy to help and she even delivers sometime late in the evening! Phoenix also do a buffet during the day now but also offer a deal on their normal lunch menu that's £5.95 for a starter, main and dessert being served 6 days a week.
