Wowser, what a restaurant! The Water Margin is right up there on my list of favourite places to…read moreeat, having been there for romantic dinners with the husband before he became the husband and for a very raucous birthday party at which the husband insisted on singing. Before the karoke machine was turned on. The setting is spectacular - this is a large building right on the edge of the River Bann, so ask when you are booking for a window table and you'll have a stunning view as you eat and drink. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive - a large, high ceiling room with a giant chandelier in the centre. So, what about the food? It certainly lives up to the setting. I would describe this as upmarket Chinese food rather than the kind of place to grab your Friday night sweet and sour. The prices reflect the setting and the quality and for special occasions I am more than happy to pay them. On our last visit I had satay chicken skewers and seaweed, both of which were top notch. I than had shredded chilli beef which I also loved, and the husband had king prawns in yellow bean sauce which I felt obliged to try and also really liked. We had side orders of special fried rice and noodles and I could have eaten either of these on their own. I was pleased to see that there is a tea time special menu at £9.95 for 3 courses which is outstanding value given the quality of food and the lovely service you get. Can't wait until the next time we go back.

Eat here quite a bit and can't complain about anything. The food and service is excellent. I'd…read morerecommend anyone passing through to call in and try it. They do a shoppers special which is great value too

Bambou is supposed to be one of those 'best places to eat...Chinese', maybe I'm fussy (I wouldn't…read moresay I am) but I was let down. Yes, they have a huge range of choices, you certainly couldn't say they didn't have a variety of options but if the food isn't that good, then what's the point? I made a point of not basing this review on just one measly experience but, after last nights palava this restaurant just isn't making a good impression. We ordered; prawn balls (between two for our starter), for mains we got the special combination with satay sauce, and the shredded chicken with spicy sauce. I don't have any complaints about the chicken. However it's a different kettle of fish with the other two dishes. Firstly, the prawns nearly cost us a tenner, for two measly prawn balls, battered in what I'm presuming was plastic then served in a sauce incredibly reminiscent of sweet and sour (this is supposed to be a great restaurant, I thought they could be a little more experimental) ... then the special satay dish was watery, literally, more watery liquid than any sort of normal consistency and with no taste of peanut in any way, shape or form. I ordered noodles with my chicken, they came undercooked, a bit like the horror of a pot noodle gone wrong and that's not the first time I've had that problem here. Just not a huge fan. Would love to write a better review but I can't bring myself to do it. Sorry.

It is really popular with local people and booking recommended at weekends - I've not been able to get a table twice when we fancied a bite out. Thankfully they also provide a takeaway service so not all was lost. Friendly service make it a decent place for a relaxed evening.

We went for a kids chicken fried rice, kids chicken chow mein, Bangkok seafood (me), chips and curry sauce. We had complimentary prawn crackers and curry sauce to start and the girls loved these as they were warm, crispy and tasty. The kids dishes came out and I actually had to question whether they were kids or adults as the portion size was big!! They tucked into their meals and then mine arrived followed by chips and sauce. The food was superb, portion sizes amazing and service excellent. Definitely worth a trip to Glengormley for good, authentic, Chinese and Thai cuisine and all for £30!!!

Like a lot of buildings in Glengormley, it seems to be compulsory to let the exterior fall into a mess of disrepair. It's not very attractive to say the least. Quite charming inside though - nicely lit, and the staff all look the part. I had an awesome bowl of tom yum gai last time I was there... Surely one of the world's greatest dishes. I tend to turn into Captain Tomato Head any time I eat anything with chilli in it, and our waitress quite charmingly kept asking me if I was OK. I then had scallops for my main course, which were as scallops should be... lightly cooked and tender. My wife certainly had no complaints with her courses either. You know, I would recommend this place. They have very reasonable lunch deals on, and the food and service are faultless. Please just ignore the minging exterior.
