This was the perfect late night eatery I can happily say satisfied my cravings for American food in…read moreHK. The owner was so inviting and attended to us even though the vibe was casual. The ambience was like a retro diner, with unique CD art on the walls, diner-like stools, and photos of guests enjoying their meal at Burger Joy. I wasn't feeling a burger, so I ordered some truffle fries and wings. I was so impressed at the amount of truffle they sprinkle on the fries and the flavor of the wings. SO hot and fresh which made the meal so delicious. I went with Cajun seasoning and the exterior was lightly crispy and coated with the powder. Fantastic flavor! As a Westerner, I could rely on Burger Joy for that classic American style dining. They have late hours and close at 2:30AM! Glad my friend and I discovered this spot as we have been out so late and nothing but convenient stores were open in Wan Chai.

It was and still is such a hard thing to find in HK, which seems strange given the popularity of burgers and the huge expat population. Now that several big time fast food chains (#1) have opened up, Burger Joys and their pricey burgers may seem somewhat pedestrian. Burger Joys is still fairly unconventional from most of the other burger spots, which includes serving full on booze (even cocktails!) and remaining open for 24 hours a day. The latter is mainly for location's sake, Wanchai and it's red light district vibe tends to spurn a lot of expat visits; many of whom are less likely to look for a HK Cafe over the idea of a burger and fries. The burgers themselves evoke memories of In N Out by presentation alone, sans taste and price. That said, the burgers are good. I'm not sure if the signature double cheeseburger warrants the $139HKD price tag, but it's still tasty. Throw in a shake and some fries (better with truffle!), the meal gets closer to 200HKD+ with the service charge. Thank goodness they accept credit cards. The service has been a mix of great and subpar. Some days when the gentleman from Vancouver is working, the service is professional, fun, and efficient. Some other days / hours, it's a crapshoot of casual and lackluster staff. The mileage definitely varies. I suppose the adage applies: come for the food and nothing else. At 4AM. ___________ (#1) Why hello there Shake Shack (https://www.yelp.com/biz/vy-CrKB4FnUXHJfTm5VBnw) and Five Guys (https://www.yelp.com/biz/V95VaC8flVy_APuFJGq3Tw)!

One of the greatest food items to have ever been invented, is the burger. Of course, there are many…read moregreat gourmet choices across Hong Kong, but these tend to cost. However, those of us on a budget, but with still functioning tastebuds, can go to a wonderful little burger place in Sai Kung, that serves both regular Australian beef, and wagyu beef burgers, at a reasonable price. Two burger, fries, and three soft drinks only set us back HKD200. Burger Deli is a small "hole in the wall" style cafe, which serves burgers, dogs, fries, onion rings, vanilla coke, root beer, etc. The sort of place that does blue collar American diner food. I describe it as a "hole in the wall", because there is no indoor seating, and the service counter is essentially the front of the shop, with seating on the outside terrace, under cover of an awning. There is a lovely lady that serves behind the counter, and a chef flipping burgers to perfection. It's a very simple operation, which makes the service fast and courteous. The burgers themselves are amazing. The patties are cooked only one way, medium, unless requested otherwise, and this is nestled in a soft toasted bun, with red onion, American cheese, bacon, toms, and lettuce. It is a simple but very effective burger build, due to the quality of the meat and the way it is grilled. The fries are tasty, but are the skin on things that you buy in the supermarket that seem to be popular all over HK. It's a little off the beaten track, away from the seafront, so it is usually quite quiet during the week. At the weekends, however, it gets rammed, so plan your burger strategically, and try and slip in between the rush hours. It's such a perfect place to go for a fast feed when you have just got off a tour boat, without having to resort to the chain burger joints (and you know the ones I mean). I always go for the cheese burger with bacon - a classic, so you can't go too far wrong!

I would come back again just for this salad alone. The other dishes we tried though were a bit disappointing (good yelp reviews = high hopes): * The foie gras on the burger was ah-mazing (in words of my friend), but the burger itself was not great. * I was really looking forward to the shrimp po boy, and while it looked delicious, it was just okay with a heavy batter and little flavor. The flavors of the pork sandwich didn't work well together and the bread came soaked-through soggy. * The lobster broth pasta was well... noodles in strong lobster broth. * For dessert, we decided on the mascarpone donuts. Sad, deflated little puffs. It's worth noting that they are baked with mascarpone, not mascarpone-filled as we had hoped. Overall, food & service was okay. I'd stop by again if in the neighborhood but not worth coming to TST specifically for.

Wasn't really hungry when I came, but I just HADDDDD to try at least something there cus I trekked all the way to the HK side. Alas, I settled for the Skinny Jeans ($80), which came with a smaller cheeseburger and side salad. The salad was fresh and the dressing was dece. The burger tho... STAR of the show. The bun was delightfully soft, but structured enough to hold up to the juicy patty. The patty itself... HOLY YESSSSS. Their patties are made of dry-aged beef and cooked to medium perfection. Wish I was hungrier so I could have tried one of their more unique creations. That will have to wait until next time I guess!

The chicken breast is so crispy from being double fried, and the sauce doesn't make it soggy. Great place for a burger. Enough to make me forget In n' Out!
