I have been here twice and have both times ordered the pork which is traditional version of the sandwich. They also have some interesting drink choices which are all Vietnamese. You can order a Vietnamese beer to go with your sandwich, line soda, or a Vietnamese coffee. The banh mi here is very good. The french bread is on point. The pate has a nice creamy texture and is not gamy. They put scallions in there sandwich. I enjoyed it but this may not be for everyone. If I wrote this review after my first visit I would say that this is the best banh mi O have had in Hon Kong. However, the second time around the bread wasn't as fresh and didn't have the crunchy exterior that I hope for in a baguette. This is probably because I had the sandwich close to dinner time. I will definitely come back when I am craving a banh mi.

Try the restaurant next door too for really good intricate vietnamese food!

Banh Mi in Hong Kong isn't good, unless its from here. I'm sad to say that I don't know the name…read moreof it in English. This place is truly a diamond in the rough. Located next to laundromats and car shops, this place is hard to find. Surprisingly, there are no lines out the door to purchase a little paper wrapped bundle of goodness. Banh Mi, is a vietnamese sandwich that includes vietnamese cold cuts, vietnamese sausages, pickled carrots, cilantro and a few more secret ingredients all in between a light airy baguette toasted to perfection. My love for these bad boys started in the states. Coming to Hong Kong, I struggled to find a place that did it right. Other places would have really doughy baguettes, or they would throw in some Chinese ingredients to make it more marketable to locals? I'm not sure, but whatever it is, it ain't good. A friend brought me here after hearing me go on and on about how a perfect Banh Mi is supposed to taste like. THANK GOODNESS!!! There are only two people that work in this little shop. Aside from sandwiches, they also sell some dried Vietnamese goods. You will find Pho noodles ready to be made. You can also find some special flavored instant noodles to try at home. Some people have raved about their garlic bread as well but I have yet to try. Drinks are available too, but not a large variety. There are two stools for those who want to eat there. The ambiance isn't too great, but I guess some like to eat the sandwich right away...I don't blame them. =)

I have passed by this place numerous times while walking my dog, and finally stopped in to give it a try. There are only 2 stools in the whole restaurant, so it's great for a meal on the go. Tim Kee specialize in making Vietnamese bahn mi sandwiches. It's a bit difficult to decide what to order once you're inside because there is no English menu. I was lucky to have a young couple translate for me while I was in the quaint restaurant. I order a large pork sandwich. The owner picked up a large bun a placed it into an ancient oven. It came out and he carefully added carrots, cucumbers, and sauce. The flavor was just right, and the baguette was crispy and flaky on the outside. There are also some Vietnamese groceries available in the restaurant. It's not a large selection, but they have the basics for simple meals. This a perfect location for me when I want something quick and easy to pick up. The sandwiches would also be great of a picnic on the waterfront. They are not comparable to bahn mi sandwiches in Vietnam or the U.S., but they're pretty good for Hong Kong and will save me from cooking a few nights. While waiting for my sandwiches, I was looking at the various media coverage and discovered that there are actually 4 or 5 different sandwich choices. Next time I'll try the point and choose method, and ask for extra sauce on the side.

I've tried their nicoise sandwich and it was great overall, though it felt a tad dry. The sandwich true to its name does contain tuna and slices of boiled egg, but I think I may have overestimated how much I like tuna sandwiches or any kind. I tried their Jivara chocolate lime, which is another one of those less conventional cakes, where it's more mascarpone and curd than sponge. A coworker of mine joked that the cake looked a bit like a giant malteser, and I suppose she's right. It does, though it's resting in a chocolate shortcrust cup-shaped base (see attached photo). More recently, I've tried their mocha and Mille feuille. He mille feuille was wonderfully crisp, and the caramel, was whipped beautifully so it wasn't overly dense or sweet. That being said, it seems that I still don't know how to eat one properly, since I made a pretty grand mess of the pastry. Their mocha is good. It isn't very sweet, so it makes me feel a bit less guilty about eating a really sugary cake/pastry, but I like the latte more. I felt that the chocolate was to a certain extent masking the scent and flavour of the espresso, so I will probably stick to the latte from now on; to a certain extent I've often seen myself more as someone to enjoy more plain and subdued flavours like vanilla over stronger flavours like chocolate.

I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. Why would I get French food in Hong Kong? It just really didn't make sense to me at first. Well,…read moreI've been back more times than I can remember and I've gone through a few of their stamp cards to get free quiche or chocolate cake so I guess my question was moot. While the chicken is good and getting the meal is a quick and relatively healthy swap for when I don't feel like cooking. I'm a big fan of their baguettes, the chicken sandwich that comes on the baguette as well as just buying a couple of loaves if I feel like splurging on eating carbs. The sandwich is a tasty well prepared little thing-it kind of reminds me of the mini subs that Blimpy's used to have but packed with a a lot of chicken and veggies. The potatoes are also a favorite side dish of mine but a few people have said it's a little too greasy because it's cooked in chicken juice. The only real complaint I have is that the servings are usually pretty small-like most places in HK. I end up buying the dinner for four deal for two people.

Amidst the noodles and the dim sum is this tiny takeaway place that serves...French roast chicken??…read moreI don't know what makes this place so French, other than the fact it's run by a French guy. We have roast chicken back in Canada too. But damn, it was good chicken and the sides were delish! No Swiss Chalet baby chicken and bland veggies here. It's becoming clearer to me that HK isn't the cheap food haven as I was led to believe. Still, La Rotisserie is rather reasonable. On the weekends, 1/4 chicken + 2 sides is priced at HKD $86 (CAD $15). Weekday lunch sets include 1/4 chicken + 1 side + drink for HKD $68 (CAD $12). They also take Octopus. I was kinda surprised at the price discrepancy between locations though. I recently moved so this Sai Ying Pun La Rotisserie isn't very accessible to me anymore. I'm still close to Wan Chai, but that one bumps its lunch special price to HKD $78. I know that area is a work-centric, rich expat-filled area, but I'm an expat on a budget!!! Every dollar counts! Regardless, it was still really, really good chicken. It was moist, the roasting was flavourful, and the portion was very reasonable. They also topped the chicken with a drizzle of chicken gravy and a sprinkling of fresh ground pepper. You got to choose between chicken breast or leg and they had 3 side dish options. For my two sides, I picked roasted potatoes and roasted vegetables (the last was some sort of couscous thing). The veggies were great and were a mixture of sweet carrots, broccoli, and squash. The potatoes were nicely cooked and even better when soaked in the chicken gravy. For a Hong Konger who grew up in the West and is craving a bit of the West in Hong Kong, La Rotisserie fulfills that craving with amazing chicken. The Sai Ying Pun location is mainly a takeaway store with a couple of bar stools, so don't expect a comfortable dine-in experience. As with most shops, it's completely open on one side onto the street, which really maximizes its impact. The whole store is practically spilling its seductive aroma and hitting everyone within a 5 meter radius. It's like crack to an addict and La Rotisserie is the best dealer around. (28/100) - 2017

While I traditionally just have really quick breakfasts at this chain, it turns out this place is good for tea and lunch too, since they do offer some reasonably priced sets to customers. I thought the coffee was just okay, but the other items were acceptable. The truffle pasta, while it's linguini has missed the al dente mark, hasn't been cooked to the point that it's mushy... it's a fast food place so I'll let that slide. The sauce was thick, but not gooey, so again, thats a good thing if you ask me. Their cream of mushroom is not bad. It could be thicker, but they do give you a ton of mushrooms and it has a fragrant mushroom flavour, so overall, it's quite good. I also tried their club sandwich, and my is it massive! It's probably the only place in Hong Kong aside from a pizza place, that has managed to fill me up with a single serving. The sandwich overall was good, but there was too much bread and too little filling. I ended having a lot of dry mouthfuls of bread, though since I ordered a combo that came with minestrone, I just dunked the sandwich in it when it started looking a little dry. Overall, it's got a nice sauce and copious amounts of filling near he centre, so again, it's not a bad sandwich, though it does seem a bit pricy compared to the other items on the menu. Ice tea is okay, but like it's coffee is nothing special. I'd say paying $6 for it to be iced was not really worth it, but they still offer decent deals for food, so I'll probably be back soon. Best of all, they don't charge a 10% service charge even for sit-down service.

Mm... soft meat. They also sell salads, craft beers (yesssss), special drinks, and desserts (which they partnered with a local source) I was sad that they didn't have any slow-cooked ribs the day I went, but that gives me a reason to come back! And they have a happy hour from 6-9pm: if you order any craft beer, you get 50% off on their snack menu. Whaaat. More reason for me to come back! They have only 4 stools to sit right at their kiosk, but do not fret, there are plenty of chairs around the area, but no table. They also provide plastic gloves for you to eat with. Neat.
