It was a warm day out and it didn't feel like there was AC inside Mamon, but there was a large fan and the door was propped open. We were ready to eat after shopping nearby. It was a late lunch for us, and so the place was nearly empty with the exception of one other group. We scanned the QR code at the front counter and took a seat at a table to review the menu. It was a little difficult to navigate and some items did not have pictures. The gentleman who helped us was just friendly enough to go over some of the menu items. But after we placed our order, we never saw anyone again. We ordered the pork shoulder sandwich called Chancho en Cama. We split the sandwiches so that we could try two different kinds. We both really loved the flavor profile of the pork sandwich. I really enjoyed it and wish I had a whole sandwich of this one! We also had the Philly Me Up sandwich. This one was a miss for us, definitely. This was pretty bland and just didn't compare to the deliciousness of the pork sandwich. Our sides were good, which included french fries, and roasted cauliflower. The portions are pretty small for the price point of the food. Wow I thought this was going to be one of my wife's bland vegan lunch spots but was I wrong. The Salmon salad on Sourdough was excellent. I loved the bread and butter pickles in the salmon salad. We came right when it opened. The front guy not sure if he was the owner but he was so nice. He helped us with his recommendations, and was super kind. The food was super good too and flavorful. The prices are reasonable too, the inside is very cutesie with a cute sign that is cute for photo ops, there is lot of room inside and some outdoor seating. We tried the Asian salad wrap and added chicken for extra and had the chicken pesto sandwhich I forgot the name of it but it was also super flavorful and delicious. I tried their banana pudding at a taste of lake forest festival back in 2019 and had been meaning to swing by for another taste of that delicious pudding ever since! The banana pudding is still the star of the show here - don't leave without getting some. I loved the decor and vibe inside- they also offer outdoor seating. I happened across Mamon after a visit to the doctor's which is in the same plaza. I am so glad that I stumbled here. Who knew such a hidden gem would be tucked away in this plaza? I ordered the sandwich called "There's an egg involved", and it was so delicious. The sauce that it came with complemented the sandwich perfectly, and the bread soaking up the egg yolk and the juices from the tri-tip made each bite a beautiful symphony of flavors. The veggies that were in the sandwich cut the fat so perfectly, and I can honestly just say that this was a perfect sandwich. I'm sure the beer is good and the selection seemed fine from what I saw. If I find myself here again I would try something else for sure. My wife and i visit Mamón periodically, and every time we do, we wonder why we don't visit more often. They have a very unique menu, with food that is so much more flavorful than most. On my most recent visit I ordered the Gracias, Pavo sandwich, which is a seasonal item. I got it with a gluten-free wrap instead of the toasted Francese bread. The wrap itself was very good, but it was the turkey, pickled onion and roasted sweet potatoes that made it so tasty. I asked for the Serrano pepper mayo on the side. Just a drop with every bite was enough for me, and added great flavor. The sandwich was big enough for me to save half for later. The restaurant features counter service, and the person who took our order was very friendly and helpful. They feature some great specialty beers, but one of my favorite things is you get to take a whole carafe of water to your table. For a "heavy drinker" like myself, this is a very welcome convenience. The menu is quite simple, but it's also quite delicious. I've tried a few sandwiches but my favorite and the go to staple in my household now is the "There's an egg involved". It's a roasted tri tip sandwich that is to die for. Honestly, egg and tri tip? Winning combo no matter what you do. But what makes Mamon special is that serrano pepper mayo sauce. That sauce just holds everything together and adds a little kick (but not too much) and more richness to really bring out the flavors of the tri tip. But don't worry - it's not too rich as the acid from the tomatoes cuts out too much richness. Overall, it's a perfect sandwich, and quite a messy one - don't forget to nab some extra napkins, because trust me, you'll need it. The only downside I have with the sandwich order is that it doesn't come with anything but just the sandwich itself. It would be nice if it also came with a side. The other bonus about Mamon is that it's part of the Lake Forest gift card program! Which means you're basically getting their food for 50% off! read more
