We had finished our tour at the Vatican, and we were just walking along when we stopped by Mamà Ristobistrot for lunch. The restaurant is cozy and refreshing with lot of white marble and light colored decor. Mamà Ristobistrot is a great place for tourists and locals alike, but it's not overflowing with tourists which is nice. The food was absolutely excellent! We started with apps: warm focaccia and olive oil, eggplant and zucchini patties with tomatoes, and prawns and mint. All the starters were super flavorful. The prawns were some of the best we've ever had! For our main meal, we had the paccheri pasta with chunks of sea bass, tomatoes, and capers as well as the prawns entrée. After a long visit to the Vatican , my toe guide recommend this place to me for a late lunch. Away from the touristy side of town this place is an amazing find just 10 mins away from the Vatican The four main "towers" of Roman pasta are on full throttle here: carbonara, Amatriciana, cacio e Pepe and Grecia. House made pasta perfectly cooked with a clean base of sauces. My favorite was Cacio e Pepe which had a great blend of pecorino cheese and pepper that is well "binded" into the pasta. If you ever tried to make it , you will know what I mean. Next was Amatriciana which had crisp bacon bits in a deep tomato based sauce, despite it being slightly on the salty side it was still savory. We rounded up the meal wth fresh mozzarella insalate and mixed seafood . Perfect way to end one the best meals I have enjoyed in Rome . THIS is the place we've been looking for all week. The service was perfect - the waiter even took the time to explain some of the more complex specials. The bread was dense and tasty, perfect for getting that last bit of sauce. Grilled octopus app was delectable. Very tender, very flavorful. The lasagna was perfect, as was the carbonara. Ok so all those positives aside, its a nice restaurant on a rather busy street in the Vatican/Rienzso area. I was out wined so I opted for some craft beer and that was not common for Rome. Man have I been missin out, they sure had some good beer. I was annoyed at my self for not havign found out earlier! Several bottles later, we order some a cheese plate and as we went to town on it they brought us some complimentary bruschettas ! Sweet. That lasted about 10 seconds - god it was good ! I really dont remember lunch, but I recollect it being very very satisfied and they also had a 15 Euro lunch special. The food was reasonably priced, and the service really stood out and was just excellent. I was worried that, as a celiac, I wouldn't be able to eat anything in Italy-- the Mecca of pasta-- but this restaurant allowed me to have an authentic Italian experience without any worries. The waiter spoke clear English and told me anything (except for eggplant Parmesan) could be made gluten free. It was difficult to find a good place around the Vatican area just because it's so touristy and full of places that are not good- but this was a winner! We stopped by for a late dinner. Staff was welcoming and friendly. We ordered some chicken with curry sauce and beef pieces with potatoes! We even ordered an extra side of their potatoes (my favorite). Food was good and tasty. We looked around and others had ordered pasta dishes and steak, and some were doing the full 4-5 course meal... All looked good. Prices were around 12-20 per dish. This place is unique for Italy, almost anything on the menu can be made gluten free. They have many types of gluten free pastas to choose from. The sauces are very good and appear made to order. My wife had the gluten free lasagna and she enjoyed it. It did not look like a lasagna but appeared more deconstructed or like a ziti bake The salad are nothing special with oil and vinegar dressing. I had the pesto gnocchi and it was very good the portions were average size for Italy. The wines are good and they have a large selection. The desserts were disappointing the tiramisu was served in a cup and the lady fingers were very dry tasting almost stale. The service was very good. We arrived in Rome from Seattle, WA around noon and took a walking tour so we wouldn't fall asleep. On our way back to the apartment my kids (ages 12 and 10) and I were looking for a place to eat dinner and saw this place. It looked nice from the outside, so we went in. We did not have a reservation and were not well-dressed, and after a moment's hesitation on their part they seated us. The food was excellent, and so far is the best I have had in the city. Both kids got the gnocchi, and it was the best gnocchi any on us have ever had. My son proclaimed that he was never eating gnocchi in the states again, and I would have to agree. Wonderful discovery! This restaurant is busy even on a weeknight at 22:30. Prompt service, delicious dishes and excellent wines at a fair price. Best gluten-free meal I had while in Rome (I tried four restaurants with a gluten-free menu in five days.) We were seated right away, the service was attentive and the food was fantastic. We got there right as it was opening, but the place really filled up while we were there. I can definitely see why it's so popular. The house wine was amazing, and the waiter brought gluten-free bread for me and non-gluten-free bread for my husband after taking our order without even being asked. (This was not the norm.) Like others, we found this restaurant by accident. It was too late that night (they were full) but we made reservations for the next night. This is not a huge, elaborate place but a calm one. It's been noted that it resembled a living room with books and art, a few tables and blackboard of the daily specials. Customers were mostly local and conversations were animated and civilized - people were not ignoring their table mates to play with their toys, The waiter spoke excellent English and offered good suggestions. You must get the Prawn appetizer (for 2). Enormous crustaceans are presented with a cotton candy-like filigree of Parmesan, the whole thing deep-friend. It brought gasps and expressions of surprise, We had another appetizer, two entrees and dessert plus I had a glass of wine - all for only 78 E. The Branzino was great as were the two pastas. I tried to tip but the woman waved her hand, obviously satisfied with our enjoyment. We returned two nights later for an even grander meal. We stayed near the Vatican during our trip in Rome, and luckily Mamà Ristobistrot is located 10 minutes from our Airbnb. After a long day of traveling, we were exhausted and just wanted a good meal...and we got it! Good: The restaurant is very cozy and modern looking. The service here is exchellent, everyone serves you with a genuine smile on their face. It was such a pleasant vibe! Okay, now the food: the grilled octopus is the best dish I've ever had! My sister ordered a pesto pasta and the sauce was so fresh, I kept picking at her plate. My dad kept trying to steal my grilled octopus, to a point that I just told him to order his own (and he did). We also had the eggplant balls with pesto sauce (instead of tomato sauce, I really enjoy their pesto THAT much), and I also refused to share it. This restaurant brought out the greedy side of me, that's how much I liked their food. The waiter recommended us a specialty meat for the night, and everyone at the table kept praising how tender it is. We loved this place so much, we dined here 2 nights out of 3. The Tiramisu is also really creamy and fluffy, I don't know how to describe it. It's just so good! Bad: I don't drink, but apparently the house wine isn't good, according to my sister and my boyfriend. Bottom line: 10/10 would go back and order the grilled octopus. My wife and I have been in Italy for over a week and have had incredible dinners in Venice, Florence and Rome...but this was terrible by those standards. We went here right after the a day at the Vatican and it was perfect! I had the Gonococci with tomato, oregano, and mozzarella it was very flavorful and probably the best gonococci I have had so far. My mother had lasagna and she said it was very good as well. For desert we had the taguata di frutta (assorted fruits) and they were all very fresh and perfectly ripe. The customer service was very attentive and the owner even brought us some cake dessert for free as we were paying our bill. 10/10 would go again if in Rome. read more

The only positive thing I can think of is that they have a gluten free option. Gluten free dining in Rome have yet to impress me, and this is no exception. I went there for a convenient and hopefully good meal after walking around the Vatican for some hours. I was starving. The waiter was (as every other waiter I have yet met in Rome), quite sour and didn't even smile once during my visit. This really pissed me off. I asked for gluten free options, and the waiter told me I could have all the pastas gluten free except gnocchi. Fine! I should have been super happy, but somehow, I felt like the waiter looked down at me because of my allergy. I ordered the pasta with sea bass, olives, capers and cherry tomatoes, and was asked if I preferred fusilli or penne in a "if I really have to serve you gluten free food you must choose a type of pasta"-kind of way. I tried to make a little joke that it didn't matter to me as long as it was gluten free, but no smile og laugh from the waiter. He came along a couple of minutes later with a basket of bread, no comment on whether I could eat it or not, and just hushed away again. I was minutes from eating the bread and getting really sick just so I could sue these ignorant guys.... Is it really too much to ask for to be treated with respect when you have a serious allergy? Then - it took a good twenty five minutes to get the food. A couple of Italian boys who sat down at the table next to us arrived five minutes later than us and got their food after maximum ten minutes. We therefore had plenty of time to sit and watch them eat their amazing looking (and smelling) food while we were still waiting for ours. And so it arrived. And the portions were maybe a little less than half of the portions the guys on the next table had just had. I mean - in a capitol, is it really too much to ask for to be treated the same way at a restaurant as guest originating from the country your visiting? ..... In my experience, all other cities I've visited in Italy this summer has been great, but Rome... Ugh. The food itself was bland, all right but no gastronomic experience.
