There aren't a lot of good pizza options in the Sarasota area - what a great find ... here's the deal - who would expect a little wine bar that's almost impossible to find in a nondescript strip mall to have great pizza, impressive wine selection, and (didn't expect this); awesome music! Plusses minuses everything fresh high quality, great calamities interesting sauces id say good to great somewhere in that range as long as you're open to diff ent sauces. The pizza is so personal to individual preference you really have to ask a lot of questions to get what you want.. Its as close to Italy as you're ever going to get stateside. I'd like to see condiments, a side of park some flakes of red pepper to personalize it. There are no sodas for nondrinkers. Wines one beer or 8 dollar pelligrino. I don't drinkdont like sparkling water. So ill do take out. Couldn't give it a five star rating but I wanted to. I wanted to try the food here since I hear it's amazing - I entered and the place was crowded I mentioned I wanted to go food and some drinks while waiting...the staff told me only pizza is to go- no other items and ignored me - they were talking to regulars and never asked if they could take my order/ while this was a busy night I felt ignored and also "blamed" for wanting to go food- shame since I never got to try it read more

The setting is a small bar like atmosphere. You get there by going down and outdoor hallway. While the atmosphere isn't much, the pizza was excellent. A creative selection of choices, and a great pizza maker in the kitchen! The anchovy attention of , cheese, tomato and basil pizza was not heavy on the anchovies, and so therefore did not smother any of the delicious flavors. It was very well done. On par with the best pizzas in town. The wine selection is extensive, there must have been more than 200 bottles on the list. Service was good, and the atmosphere was very good for a while. We arrived at around 6. Around 7:30 p.m. though they started blasting loud music for some reason. Before that it was easy to have a conversation. I hope they reconsider the volume for future people. But great food and great wine, we will definitely be back. Oh come on already, everybody knows that this is the place to go in Sarasota, both for the exquisite food and the general aura is welcoming and staff know their stuff. Imagine a place surrounded by staff that are fully trained and professional. No, you don't get some gorgeous 18 to 25-year-old to begrudgingly do what they can to stay on payroll. This place exudes the passion for their patrons and the food and wine. The wines are all over the board, which is exactly what one would want when dining here. OK, so after eating here I cannot in good conscience call what I had for lunch, "pizza." Malmosto is AMAZING! I can't wait to try the rest of the menu. We enjoyed the fantastic calamari, the salsiccia and the Napoli. Everything was perfect. I think they fly the raw ingredients in from somewhere exotic. The wine selection was good too! We live in the neighborhood and have been going here on and off since it first opened. We had a family outing yesterday evening and enjoyed the wonderful food - the very best pizza in town and great wine. The atmosphere is just fun and the music took us all back to 80/90's. Our first experience was in the restaurant. Amazing! We learned about the Pizza shop next store from the owners son who waited on us . Very good job from food to service. We went back and had yet another great experience in the pizza shop . Excellent food and selection of wines. The owner guided us on our selection . The person who reviewed and gave one star apparently has no clue on Italian wines or food at authentic Italian establishments . . I suggest they stick to olive garden or other chain operations . You will not be disappointed at either the restaurant or pizza shop . read more

One of our favorite places, well both of Andrea's restaurants are amazing and our favorites. We drive all the way up from Englewood, for a delicious meal, great host and hostess Andrea and Rosario. Our party of 4 had dinner at Malmosto last week. It was a nice locale but the loud music made any conversation a shouting match. The menu, quite limited, exists mostly of pizza. My friend and I both had Foccacia, listed as $8.50 on the menu, but the owner described it as the"special" which actually was the bread with thin Italian ham aand a blob of mozzerella on each of the four = $24 per. The men each had a 12" pizza. We had one of the lowest priced wines offered. We left with an $200 check. Don't recommend. read more

My wife and I love Italian food and wine so gave this place a shot. The waiter whom I assume was the owner was very crass and seemed in a hurry. He was an older Italian guy. My wife ordered a prosecco for herself and sparkling water for her daughter. I tried to order a glass of Valpollicella and stumbled on the pronunciation for about a half second and the guy just walked away. When he brought their drinks back he took our food order and I tried to order the wine again and again he seemed in such a hurry he just walked away. My wife had to flag him down the next time he walked by and ordered the wine for me. He was so occupied with another table of people that he obviously knew that he didnt have time for us. He kept hanging out with them joking and talking meanwhile ignoring us. Anyway it set the tone for the rest of our visit. The food was decent but overpriced. I love leaving nice tips but only left 15%. I felt bad though because there was a lady helping clean tables and she was very sweet, I don't know if she got part of the tips or not. The octopus was excellent and the pizzas are argueably the best in Sarasota. There is nothing fancy about the dining room but I believe that part of the charm of this little gem is breaking bread with fellow foodies in a small space that encourages interaction with staff and fellow diners. If you are looking for a low key evening with excellent food and a fantastic wine selection, this will check the box for sure. read more
