Sometimes I like keeping my hair long, sometimes I'm just ready to chop it all off. I also really like how this studio is set up where she only works on one person - it's intimate but also comfortable. Joy is such a pleasure to go to when I need to get a fresh cut. I am trying to be better and get my hair cut more often, but she is such a treat that it almost feels wrong to come too often...but so long as I am in the area, I will ALWAYS go to Joy and will recommend her to anyone.

Upon entering you will find a modern salon with a little bit of an Asian flair in decor. Very clean and calming. The waiting area is clean and neat and features a coffee machine and a refrigerator with a selection of refreshing drinks. Honestly I've never waited long because appointments run on time. Next is the hair wash station where I'm always soaped up with lovely scented shampoo that suits my hair type. And there's the heavenly head massage. I could sit there all day! I walked out of Salon deZen for literally hundreds less than that, with a fast and fabulous cut from Mariah customized to my needs (after a very helpful consultation), along with a demi-permanent teal gloss on my previously highlighted hair, AND a truly gorgeous laminated brow and Korean lash lift from Caroline. Mariah gave me a hair style that requires minimal maintenance, but has tons of movement and versatility and a color that made me smile so hard it hurt. She also gave me a bottle of oil with a spoolie for lash and brow aftercare that made such a difference in the hair texture after processing. I assumed that any hair stylist would be able to do this so I just booked with the first available person. When I got there, the woman who was available half-heartedly tried to put up my hair with no prep and like 5 bobby pins. Then, she asked to use my my hair scrunchie! I told her that she had done was not what I wanted. She said that she couldn't do it, then asked another stylist if she would do it. I was really nervous at that point because I had about two hours until my event. I waited about 40 mins, but it was worth it! Lalani have me a beautiful updo that lasted all evening. I am so glad that I waited! BTW, while I waited I watched her give a woman a silk press and it looked gorgeous. Long story short - if you go there, make sure you book with Lalani!

Five minutes late probably not such a big deal in most cases, but I had been early so that I wouldn't be late when I entered the store. I smelled smoke on her so I knew she had gone to have a cigarette and that's why she was late opening. She asked me what I wanted done. I told her a trim only after the complementary shampoo and conditioner. I had to show her using my hair that I only wanted a quarter of an inch taken off. She did comply and it only took five minutes to trim my hair when it was time to pay, she charged me $40 $40 for five minutes to trim my hair you may say well she did shampoo and condition. This is true, but that's complementary. I am not a happy Customer.

I've never felt the need to write a review for how terrible a service was in my life... but here I…read moream. I went in for a honey bronde balayage and layers with Julia. During the service, my experience was actually good up until one of the assistants came to rinse my hair. I was on my phone scrolling while I had toner in my hair when all of a sudden I felt my hair yanked back and freezing cold water started blasting on my head. There was no introduction, no hello, and no kind of warning that this assistant was going to be rinsing my hair out. I don't mind if an assistant rinses my hair, but an introduction, explanation, and a quick hello should have been made. I didn't make a big deal about it then, but I briefly brought it up to my stylist that it caught me off guard. Once my hair was dried, I could immediately tell the color did not resemble the inspiration pictures I showed Julia. I'm not a very confrontational person, so I ended up leaving without saying anything and hoping I'd grow into liking the new color and layers. When I got home and looked closer into my hair, I could see the highlights from the balayage were unevenly toned. Some parts (mostly towards the bottom of my hair) were more blonde while the highlights closer to my head were more brassy. I decided to give it a couple days and wait until after I washed my hair to take any action because that's the general rule of thumb thing to do. Over the course of a week, I noticed more uneven coloring, so I decided to reach out to Julia to see if I could come in to get it fixed when she had availability. That was toward the end of May and to this day I've never received a response from her. I also contacted the Salon itself to address the situation, and the salon never reached out to me either. I wasn't requesting a refund or even a color correction. I mentioned I'd be willing to just come in to have my hair toned down to cancel out the brassy coloring. I mentioned I'm open to discussing what options we have to move forward and I never heard back. I used the Salon's contact form they have on their website. What is the point in having a contact form on your website if you're not going to respond back to your customers???? I am so disappointed and frustrated with the service I requested and the customer service I should have received. I would never recommend this salon or the stylist to anyone.
