The beach has a large parking lot that even includes EV charging stations as well as a building with restrooms, bike racks, and picnic shelters with grills. The park is well built up and ready to host lots of people. Paved parking, handicapped ramps, trash cans and even showers to get the sand off your kids before you load them back up into the car. It is located on the east side of the island and as it says in the name, it has a view of the ocean. There are no barrier islands beyond here - it's direct exposure to the Atlantic and it's beautiful. Expect strong winds and be aware of riptides. There are two different courses to choose from--one is a bit easier and has more shade, which is the one we played. It was perfect for the grandkids, and honestly, the adults enjoyed it just as much. It's a great stop for families looking to mix a little fun and relaxation on Jekyll Island.

We found a true gem with this one they have two different courses one for beginners and the other for more advanced players. Both courses are well maintained, the scenery is gorgeous (who doesn't love Jekyll?) and the person behind the counter was extremely helpful and friendly. After grabbing our clubs and color coded balls (pink, purple & teal of course!) We chose the beginner course. The best part on this 90+ degree day you ask? The beginner course was pretty shaded with covers making the heat way more bearable. Each spot had an adorable feature either beside or to golf through some were quite the challenge! We had lots of laughs and tons of fun trying to get a hole in one which by the way only one of us was able to make (all I'll say was that it wasn't me or Bob who made it!) 10 out of 10 it's a must stop on any Jekyll Island trip!

New enough that it's not on the 2019 view in Google Earth and it's not on the Glynn County list of…read moreparks. But it is a park and it's definitely here as I visited it. This is the Glynn County Veterans Memorial Park and they have done a fabulous job of building it out and putting together memorials. It starts with an archway entrance with the "All gave some - some gave all" then crossing a small bridge to another grass space and beyond that, a raised brick courtyard with five plaques and six flagpoles, one for each of the five military branches of service and the center for the US flag. The park is clean and well kept. There are a handful of benches throughout and a number of tables with chairs for picnics. It is a nice use of what previously an empty lot. There is a double wide sidewalk that goes a long way down the coast and it provides excellent views and places to hike or bike Plenty of hotel options to stay at. Many of them are dog friendly but be sure to check. During peak season it can get $$$ Driftwood beach and the pier are two of my favorite places on the island. The ruins are also a neat place to hike. I have posted separate reviews for all the places I've really enjoyed in the island. The food on the island is a mix of delicious and let downs. Be sure to check out some of the restaurants that are not right in the town village part. The locals tend to avoid them and after my last couple of visits I will too. There are a lot of repeating flavor profiles on the island of seafood obviously Overall this place is pretty amazing and worth checking out.

We had a chance to visit Great Dunes Park a couple of weekends ago. This is definitely the beach to…read morecheck out if you want to avoid the crowds at Tybee Beach or even Hilton Head, although it will require about an hour or so drive south from Savannah and similarly, north from Jacksonville. They also charge a toll to get into the beach community with state residents paying I believe six dollars or so and out of state residents paying closer to 10. However, it's definitely worth it as there is plenty of parking along the entire island beach strip, including a really great fishing pier at the end of the island that also has a bait and tackle shop located within the park. We found the beach to be clean, the facilities to be well kept, and more importantly, not overly crowded. The beach here is well traveled, however so this is not soft, supple sand, but much more hard packed, which allows for running, bike riding and recreational activities in general. There were several families fishing in the same vicinity of other families playing in the water which could present a bit of concern with regard to potential hooks and fishing tackle in the surf, but it didn't seem to bother anybody. This is definitely going to be our go to beach for the foreseeable near future.

The pavilion can be reserved and includes a kitchen and preparation area. There is a decent sized parking lot that is within range of the baseball field so be aware of foul balls. The park also has a decent playground, a basketball court and a walking trail that goes around the perimeter of the park. It was a little wet today so some of the park had some drainage issues.
