Unfortunately for us when we went the wind was so incredibly wicked it was like an getting assaulted by the beach the second we walked onto open sand and it whisked my sons bucket down the shoreline which was tricky to get back lol so we didn't last long lol if the weather was better I imagine we could spend a day there. Bring a lunch and when you're ready go shower clean up eat and let the kids play at the park!

It has some facilities and there are picnic tables, but this is also the kind of island that has a lot of mosquitos so I would be heading towards the beach. This area has some inland water that is apparently permanent enough that they've put pontoon bridges over it, which is kind of cool. The beach here is a little bit wider than on other nearby areas, so the tide is not forcing you to literally sit on a dune and you can walk around the surf fishers. So it is a decent ocean beach, if still on the crowded side.

There is a double wide sidewalk that goes a long way down the coast and it provides excellent views and places to hike or bike Plenty of hotel options to stay at. Many of them are dog friendly but be sure to check. During peak season it can get $$$ Driftwood beach and the pier are two of my favorite places on the island. The ruins are also a neat place to hike. I have posted separate reviews for all the places I've really enjoyed in the island. The food on the island is a mix of delicious and let downs. Be sure to check out some of the restaurants that are not right in the town village part. The locals tend to avoid them and after my last couple of visits I will too. There are a lot of repeating flavor profiles on the island of seafood obviously Overall this place is pretty amazing and worth checking out.

We tried to book 3 golf carts with Orion, but they only had two.  They misunderstood my email telling them I needed three and delivered only two. I called them immediately upon arrival to tell them to pick them up. They picked up the carts immediately and said they would refund our money. (I offered them 1 day rental for the delivery.) They then reneged on their offer and charged us for the full week!  USE SEASIDE!

New enough that it's not on the 2019 view in Google Earth and it's not on the Glynn County list of…read moreparks. But it is a park and it's definitely here as I visited it. This is the Glynn County Veterans Memorial Park and they have done a fabulous job of building it out and putting together memorials. It starts with an archway entrance with the "All gave some - some gave all" then crossing a small bridge to another grass space and beyond that, a raised brick courtyard with five plaques and six flagpoles, one for each of the five military branches of service and the center for the US flag. The park is clean and well kept. There are a handful of benches throughout and a number of tables with chairs for picnics. It is a nice use of what previously an empty lot. The beach had two significant problems going for it: first, the tides run right up to the dunes so it's hard to go anywhere at high tide, and second the surf fishers make it tough to walk. I ran into a line in the dark where I could even see that a pole had been set up. It boggles my mind that these things are legal in places where people walk and swim. The beach itself was a decent quality, if not world-beating affair. It was just more crowded and less easy to enjoy than I'd hoped.

The Council of the Royal Colony of Georgia laid out the city of Brunswick in 1771. The concept for…read morethe city utilized the Oglethorpe Plan, named after the colony's founder, General James Edward Oglethorpe. The design featured 14 large and small squares spaced evenly among residential and commercial land lots. These park-like areas were to be deeded to the people of the city in perpetuity, never to be sold or developed. Over the centuries, a number of the squares of Brunswick have been sold, encroached upon or developed for civic or private purposes. Queen Square, named in honor of the queens of England, is the only true square in Brunswick located within the downtown commercial district. The square has a memorial to Columbia Downing Jr, who joined the Union Army as a bugler in 1862 and moved to Brunswick in 1881. When the First National Bank of Brunswick was organized in February 1884, he became its first president. Col. Downing was well known for his philanthropy as well as his financial accomplishments. To honor his contributions to the prosperity of the city, a monument bench with his portrait, rendered in bronze, is located in Queen Square Northwest. The northern half of Queen Square is used as community green space. There, visitors find a stone Celtic cross monument to colonial founder, General James Edward Oglethorpe. He was well known in England for his vigorous reform in 1729 of the country's inhumane treatment of prisoners, many of whom were incarcerated for simple debts. His vision for the colony of Georgia was a fresh start for "the worthy poor," offering them a chance to own their land and escape poverty at home.
