Rental was quick and easy, taking maybe two minutes. This shop is priced just a bit higher than the older bike rental (the one adjacent to mini-golf), but the Wheel Fun folks are nicer, quicker, and easier to deal with (the other shop has an old guy who will try to talk you OUT of renting a surrey!). By the way, the double-surrey is huge fun. It's not hard to pedal or drive at all. My family has done this two years in a row now. It's a great way to see the island.

He also kept us entertained the whole time! Also, Patrick was a wealth of knowledge. He shared a lot of the area's history as well as teaching us a about the local flora and fauna. Who knew there were marsh rabbits that actually swim? By the way, the picture is a Wood Stork. Unfortunately we did not get to see it carrying any babies. The rest of the folks at Ocean Motion were awesome. I waited until the last minute to book my kayak excursion. Not only did they get me a spot, they let me ride with Patrick to the put-in (my wife had taken our car). The store at Ocean Motion has a great selection of high quality clothing and other outdoor items. My wife picked up an awesome Patagonia shoulder bag. I got my new favorite shorts made be Howler Bros. I was not familiar with the brand but they are truly my new favorite shorts! I would highly recommend Ocean Motion for both shopping and kayak touring.

There bike selection has changed a bit over the years and now all the bikes are the same color but they offer bikes with the add on for children to ride along the back. The store sells cute clothing as well and little things like sunscreen in case you're in need. The staff are always very helpful with recommending bike routes and things to do while on the island. They also have a couple of local fisherman either in or around the store or up on the pier that have been fishing in the area for years and can provide you with some general advice on bait to use and types of fish that are actually hitting in the area. Definitely would recommend starting here first if you are intending to do some serious fishing. They also have several picnic tables with barbecue grills and an outdoor bathroom that is really clean. They also have a beach area if the kids wanna hang out which also seems to serve as additional areas for shore fishing.

Souvenir items the same as what is sold at Jekyll Market, were 20-30% cheaper at Jekyll Fishing Center. One family member bought some expensive outdoor gear and was very happy with the price. It wasn't anything needed, but the deal was too good to pass. Staff was really friendly and attentive. Vibe in the store is welcoming and unobtrusive. Will be back next trip!

Cannon's Point Preserve is one of the holdings of St. Simons Land Trust. It is a large preserve on…read morethe northern end of SSI. The main attraction here is to do the long hike to the ruins at the northernmost tip of the preserve. I was never given a clear answer about how many miles the hike is, I was just told it would probably take an hour each way to hike it, and they do not allow anyone access to attempt the hike past 1pm, to assure they've returned before close. You may bike it, something I wasn't told. That would've gone a lot faster and I'd have made it with my toddler! Next time. I did do a large portion of the trail, but I skipped the side trails in my attempt to reach the ruins. When I finally gave up, I did take a side path to a hammock of live oaks, and it was such a beautiful canopy! Like an arboreal cathedral! I posted a video of the birdsong here, OMG, it is crazy! Birds friggin' love this place! My dogs had fun exploring, but I don't think there was a lot of wildlife other than birds, because my dogs will usually get excited for anything and they didn't do that the whole walk. The bush here is so thick, I guess the fauna kept well hidden. This is a beautiful sanctuary, which is wonderful on the very built up island of SSI. Thank God for St Simons Trust!
