The employees and camp hosts are friendly and helpful. There is lots of trails and wildlife to enjoy. Anytime we have had issues, they are promptly addressed and rectified. The only slight drawback is the paper mill stench. It can be quite awful at times. Oh! And the noseeum's. Bring bug spray! We regularly visit Savannah, Jacksonville, St Simons, Jekyll Island, Amelia Island and Okefenokee National Park while staying here. Brunswick has all the necessities you would need and is a nice town. Husband always visits the Pinball Palace! Highly recommend staying a while and really exploring the beauty of this area.

Transients like me and longer term stays are available in the campground. There's just something about being waterside that I find helpful for my mood and my productivity, I was here for about two hours for phone calls and emails, sitting in the van and listening to the quiet lapping of the shore. There are activities here including picnic shelters, a playground, a fishing pier and a boat launch with crane. I was able to watch them pull a boat in with the crane and load it onto a trailer. Unlike Driftwood Beach, Oceanview is a lot more pristine and the beach continues for a long while…read more Flat, hardpacked sand are easy for walking or sitting. The beach has a large parking lot that even includes EV charging stations as well as a building with restrooms, bike racks, and picnic shelters with grills. The park is well built up and ready to host lots of people. Paved parking, handicapped ramps, trash cans and even showers to get the sand off your kids before you load them back up into the car. It is located on the east side of the island and as it says in the name, it has a view of the ocean. There are no barrier islands beyond here - it's direct exposure to the Atlantic and it's beautiful. Expect strong winds and be aware of riptides. Access to the island isn't free - you need to pay an $8 "parking fee" at the bridge. [Review 19341 overall - 579 in Georgia - 311 of 2023.]

Near the sandbar the water gets deep fast so if you have littles or inexperienced swimmers walk further down to set up. We went during low tide and we were able to pretty much walk all the way out to the middle of the ocean with the water at our knees in most parts. The wind was a little gusty the day we went so bring something to hold down the beach towels so they don't fly away while you're frolicking in the water! Lol! It was less crowded than the area we went the day before too! Such a fun place to enjoy the ocean and soak in the sunshine!!

Honestly I've seen better beaches on the shores of a freshwater lake, but it is a beach so how bad can it be right? Well I absolutely love the ocean but a prerequisite of loving a beach for me is a short list, but these things that are important to me. If I stand in the ocean where the water barely reaches my ankle bone I want to be able to count my toes. As much as I love oysters, I'm not a fan of a beach that looks like an oyster bed on steroids. If the sand on the beach is the color of dirt because the dirt / sand ratio can be measured I don't want my toes in the water or my ass in the sand. Oh I don't mean to be so harsh, this is a beach I highly recommend for those of you visiting Florida, it's a great beach and I hope you enjoy your time here wink wink...

This afternoon, my mom and I went to go tour the Fort Federica national Monument on Saint Simons…read moreIsland. It is a free fort so you don't pay a parking fee or an entrance fee. They have a museum inside along with a small gift shop as well as the fort grounds that you can walk around and read the Historical information. To get on Saint Simons Island you don't have to pay an island fee. The lady at the desk, her name is Barbara. She was very nice and assisted me with purchasing my passport guide. A passport to the national parks has little areas where you can take the stamps from the different national parks and stamp in your booklet. The passport books includes national parks all over the country. In the gift shop, they have a regular passport, an expert passport and a junior guide for a junior Rangers. 10/10

The Jekyll Island Public Playground was just completely redone in Jan 2022. Every bit of equipment…read moreis brand new, fresh wood chips throughout, and nicely maintained landscaping. You can't see the playground from the road (Oceanview), but it's adjacent to the mini golf, so pull in there, and they share a parking lot behind back. Red Bug Motor's Pizza is also adjacent to the playground. There are two playgrounds here, younger kids on right, big kids on left, when you enter from the parking lot. The huge "GA state law says we're not liable for death or injuries" signs are prominent, and creepy. Otherwise, the equipment is brand spanking new, and lots of fun. My (older) toddler was able to do almost every apparatus, and had a blast every visit. There are always kids coming and going from here so your little ones will find some playmates. Many parents let their kids roam free while they went to hang at the pizza deck, or play mini golf. Plenty of benches for parents to sit and keep an eye on kids, and trash cans for waste from snacks.

A historical note: Wood from trees at this spot provided the timber for the USS Constitution, the famed revolutionary war era ship known to be so solid that enemy cannonballs bounced off the side of its hull.

I only checked out the park on the west side of the bridge abutment, but there is much more to the east including a boat ramp, restrooms and nature trails. The fishing pier is the former bridge until it was torn down after the current bridge was completed. Not much more than four lanes of "road" that ends abruptly at the concrete barriers, it does stick out into the East River a good amount. There is a fantastic view from underneath the bridge, though it was rather overcast today. Several folks were fishing and seemed to be having some success. A Special Visitor at the St. Simons Pier This Morning…read more MoonPie and I were at the pier this morning when an angler accidentally caught a sea turtle. Thankfully, the turtle was handled carefully, the hook was removed, and it was released back into the ocean where it belongs. It swam away strong, which was mighty good to see. You never know what you'll witness at the St. Simons Pier. One minute MoonPie is visiting with everybody walking by, and the next minute we're watching a sea turtle get a second chance. It's a really great spot to go fishing or sit and chill. Lots of people, but it's still calm. I loved being able to take pictures with the lighthouse and soak in the sunshine. Make sure you stroll down this way!
