Neptune Park is a cute little park next to St Simon's pier. There is history there for you history lovers that includes an old lighthouse that I believe you can tour. Check out the photos below. See you on Yelp. Happy Yelping

After being told in no uncertain terms by the resident seagulls at the St. Simons Island Pier that since we had no food to get lost, we walked across the sidewalk into Neptune Park. The history of the park is quite interesting and rather than repeat it here, I refer you to Dan R's review. Neptune Park can serve as the "poster child" for other parks, showing just what can be done with a little TLC. Well-manicured lawns and plants are the rule here. And despite Peg and I intentionally looking for litter, there was none. We remarked on this to a park employee and he told us that someone patrols the park every two hours to insure it stays clean--now that's dedication! There's a playground that any kid would love--even me! Poor Peg just had to shake her head as I climbed on the jungle gym. And although in my mind I was five again, my seventy-two year old body quickly told me otherwise! Peg did join me on the swings, though, and I had to smile when she let out a "Wheeeeee!" Having had our fun, we walked up the sidewalk which skirts the park and winds around to the St. Simons Lighthouse where our tour bus was parked nearby. We passed some beautiful trees, one in particular looking like a giant bonsai (see photo). There was a great statue of a mother whale and her calf, breaking through the grass as if it were the ocean. All along the way there are benches looking out on the St. Simons Sound. We passed the St. Simons Lighthouse and Museum but unfortunately didn't have time to explore it. Some on our tour did and they highly recommended it. One can even climb the 129 steps to the top for spectaculars views. And with this, we departed St. Simons Island but Peg and I definitely have plans to return in the future, Lord willin' and the creek (excuse me--"crick") don't rise!
