If it were possible to give 0 stars, I would. I have literally never had a worse fur experience. I took a vintage silver fox coat to Mr. Mallery to have cleaned and repaired. I explained that the interior needed to be cleaned, and there were two holes that needed repairing. I dropped by, literally on the way to the airport to pick up the coat. It looked like it had not been cleaned at all, one hole was not fixed, and the other looked like it had been sewn up by, well.....me. It looked horrible. Nevertheless, I was in a huge rush and tried to pay with a credit card. Crazily enough, they only take cash and checks. When people are paying either hundreds or thousands of dollars, WHY wouldn't they accept plastic??? I was desperate, and offered to leave my light, but expensive coat as collateral. I explained that I was leaving on a ski trip, but would be back in a couple of weeks to pay him in cash. Someone called me from Mallery's shop three days later to tell me they had my coat. Well...obviously. I just left it. This is where it starts to get really crazy. Upon my return, I started to call Mallery Furs. No one answered, and their machine (no, not voicemail, but MACHINE) was full. After a couple of days of this, I was worried. After a week, I was VERY worried. Mr. Mallery must be in his 90s....what if he died? What happened to my coat?? I finally went to his building, and the concierge said he hadn't seen anyone for a couple of weeks. What??! His company is behind two security doors and has no windows. I went by again a few days later and begged the concierge to bang on the door, to no avail. I decided to let it be. Someone had to come back, eventually. Last week I called and (miracle!) Mr Mallery answered. I told him I would be by this week to pick up my coat and pay him. Today I dropped in to pick up my coat. He looked surprised to see me. He told me he had taken the CHINCHILLA off of my CASHMERE coat and put it on another coat. WTF?!! I literally thought he was kidding. "We tried to call you," he said. "You called me three days after I left on a ski vacation!" I practically shrieked. "Well, I thought you weren't coming back. You left the coat here six months ago," he replied. Six months ago there wasn't snow on the ground!! I tried to explain that I left the coat there TWO months ago, he disappeared without a way to contact him, and it is MY coat. He shrugged and showed me the fur to which he had affixed my cuffs. He wasn't kidding. I almost lost it. I seriously must have looked like Roger Rabbit with my eyes bulging out of my head. "My sister said you had this planned and were trying to pull one over on me and never planned to pay," Mr. Mallery explained. O....m.....g. "You think I was trying to get out of paying you $200 by leaving you my $4,000 coat from Neiman Marcus?! Are you crazy?!" I demanded that he remove the cuffs immediately, which he offered to reattach if I came back to pick up my coat. Absolutely not! Just give me my coat! I took my coat, in pieces, and ran as fast as I could to Helen Frushtick for damage control. I would never, ever, leave anything you care about with this company. read more

My experience with Mr. Mallery was a very positive one. I used his services to have my fur coat appraised. I thought his valuation was exactly where it should be and in line with what I paid for the coat. I plan to take a vintage fur that belonged to my late aunt to him next for restoration. After looking at some of his work, I have confidence that he will do a fabulous job. read more

I left my vintage, inherited chinchilla stole and my now-endangered and sooo-not-PC ocelot cape with Mr. Mallery. Both needed repairs. I was referred to Mallery Furs by a native Atlantan and since I was new to town, really had no idea where to go since the larger stores no longer did repairs. After I finally found the place and stopped chuckling at the extreme security, I found Mr. Mallery to be a very pleasant person. Previous reviews are correct; the place is an absolute nightmare of unorganized wall-to-wall furs. I must admit, I was suspect of how he runs his business but since I was a recent transplant and he WAS referred, I said nothing.....and left my two pieces with him for the minor repairs. With instructions to call a week later for his estimate, I did just that and got no answer .... several times. And then it just fell off my radar. I finally got ahold of Mr. Mallery a year later and asked him about the repairs. He knew nothing about the repairs and said I owed him for storage. I think the bill was well over $200. I shrieked. That was almost 10 years ago. I gave my furs up for dead. I figured Mr. Mallery was, too and there was no chance of reclaiming my pieces. Even if he is alive, my claim ticket was in my stolen handbag and I have no proof of ownership. I certainly can't count on Mr. Mallery's memory or his successors to take my word for it. My guess is Mr. Mallery's memory is not what it used to be. (and I'm being nice) Take that, coupled with his apathy and well, let's just call it "unethical business practices," my furs are probably still there. However, this gal calls this experience an exercise in maintaining good mental health, albeit an unfortunate education. read more

Mr. Maller you was a great man.he had garments there since 1980. Customer's say that he has their garments and never returned them? If you pay you can get them. Nearly 20 yrs of storage and you want them for free? Every year they have to be cleaned from hanging and being unused? They have to be tumbled. The fee's are added. Maller furs is not the problem cash strapped clients are. The largest vault in the south east would not need your old fur. Cash is king pay your bills. Stop blaming others for your lack of funds. Don't ask for a service you can't afford. Luxury items are for people who can afford them. Don't buy a Mercedes Benz if you can't afford to maintain the car. If you can't afford a fur sell it. Mallery furs has the largest inventory in the south east. They have no need to switch furs. People in financial difficulties always blame others. Check you. read more

I visited Mallery furs on two occasions. He charged me to glaze and clean a fox fur vest. It looked the same when I picked it up. I did ask as if to confirm: you glazed and cleaned it? he replied yes, showed me where he does his work, etc. A year later: When I went to pick up my pieces from storage and I saw the horrible patchwork done on a vintage mink stole of which he was supposed to replace the entire lining, I realized he had likely not glazed or cleaned my vest. Very expensive, the workmanship is not good. Mr Mallery is very old, his handwriting shows that his hands are not as steady as they should be. The place is a dump. DUMP. The second time I went there (a year after the first time) there was a strange smell. It was not offensive but as you look around and see trash, debri, bits and chunks of fur all over the floor, stacked papers on the desk, (imagine a light hoarder or someone whose hoarding is only kept in check because they have visitors on occasion but would otherwise be a great candidate for an Oprah show)- the smell becomes suspicious. He CAN be a nice man and that's the reason I returned. He was charming the first time I met him. After he charged me so much for storage ($250 for 4 pieces), did a HACK job "replacing" the lining on my vintage stole, didn't touch my most priced possession (my fox fur vest) when he was supposed to have conditioned it, cleaned, and revived it a bit after a long winter wearing it ($50 in 2011), was rude because I didn't call before going to pick up MY items, and ruder because I left the claim ticket- bump the dump. Why did I return after the first visit if it's such a dump? Good question. I felt bad for him. He told me about how his first job was at Macy's on Peachtree looong ago (60s) and how he worked his way up through the ranks until he opened Mallery furs. I forgave him for his pig stye. He's so old, I excused his mess. I thought- how bad can it be? He supposedly had rappers, moguls, and brothas visiting him daily in the winter time. One supposedly well known Kanye type called him while I was there. He was making a custom item for him. He had some items in storage that were truly magnificent. Priceless endangered cats, etc. Those were not in my taste but he had something everyone would dream about. He had signed photos of a few celebrities on the wall. So I said to myself- don't be so snotty. If it's good enough for "them" it's good enough for you. Another reason was: York by my house did no cleaning or glazing. NYET they would say with folded arms. I hated going to that darn place anyways. The bodyguard? Give me a break. When was the last time a furrier was held at gun point? The eighties. Bloomingdales had closed it's fur salon. Frushtick was nowhere to be found. Called for weeks, no answers, a cell phone voicemail, drove by the suite which was empty- the place vanished. So I went to Mallery. Now my fiance said- no more fur storage.... so there goes that. I also have to mention Mallery told us his business cards cost him $10 a piece. Now why would you tell someone that? Besides, I have never seen an UGLIER business card in my LIFE. Red with black lettering. Ick. Don't take my word for it- go to that rats nest in the basement of an old 70s condo building downtown and see for yourself. I have lots more but I will add that later... read more

although I had read the other reviews,( I know some people just like to get revenge on some businesses when they don't get their way, almost like a mentally ill child), I decided to check them out anyways since I had heard so many good things from several people while I was visiting Atlanta. what I had heard from others was so true. I met Ms. Phyllis, Mr. Mallory's daughter, and you could not ask for a more professional, yet kind and compassionate person. I was ready to ask her to adopt me! since I am from Jacksonville, fl. and we don't have professional fur salons here, I wasn't sure what to expect. when I first got there, I did ask the security guard about Mallory furs, you know, about how much business they did, and the guard told me that they sell a lot of furs there, besides the usual repairs, etc. and as I signed out that day, I made an effort just to notice how many people had been there that day, and there must have been a dozen. since it was march and fur season is over, that says a heck of a lot for them. to combat the negative comments from the other reviewer, (since I had read it before I went to mallery furs, and I must admit I was a little nervous) ms. Phyllis explained the reason for their location. they had been there so many years, there was no need to go to some fancy place. they literally do not advertise, getting their business by word of mouth only. she showed me the other room where they store and repair and do all their business, and I saw anywhere from 500 to 1,000 coats. that showed me that a lot of people have trust in them, and that told me all I needed to know. ms. Phyllis is a woman of honor, dignity and respect, and their work is high quality, just like any professional furrier. I was very pleased with them and will continue to bring my work to them. by the way, I sell used furs at the scott's antique shows, and decided to store 40 furs until I come back in September. if this business was not trustworthy, do you really think I would leave 40 furs there? after all, I am 6 hours away in florida, and she was exactly the type of honorable person I was looking for. she also sells furs on consignment for people, and is not even greedy like other places. she only charges $5 per month per fur, and when she sells yours, she will call and discuss it with you if you will accept the price that the buyer is offering. she takes nothing for herself, just the $5 per month fee. someone please tell me of someone else in Atlanta that is that fair. I don't think you can find a better deal anywhere, and will continue to take my furs to mallery's as long as I keep coming up to Atlanta. read more
