This time to make rings, earrings, etc. out of loose gemstones, I purchased elsewhere. Specifically, 2 solitaire diamonds, 2 sapphires, 2 garnets and a pair of amethyst earrings. I decided to give William at San Anthony's a try, after he worked so hard on trying to locate a movement for a vintage watch. I have never had such a poor experience in my life! In early April, I picked 2 different feminine ring designs for my daughter and myself (from a book in the store) for a set of carved Cabochon antique jade cuff links that were my father's and grandfather's before him. Also using my gold and diamonds. I wanted similar not the same and each a little unique to match our personalities. And the whole process a nightmare! I was originally told it would be about a month, after a month, nothing done. I needed them for going to see my military daughter and they weren't ready. Then a month later was told well they made the castings but they weren't right as the bands were too thin and needed to be redone. Come back in a week. Went back and told that jeweler wasn't in and didn't know the status. Found my envelope but some pieces were missing including the antique cuff links. I asked where they were and no one knew, I said just give me everything back and I'll go elsewhere. Since they couldn't find the jade cuff links, was asked if I could give them a chance to find them to make them. I agreed if they could be ready by x date, as we were traveling to see my daughter at a base in north Texas and would like to bring them to her. Showed up 2 days before our trip, (early August) was told by William they were sent to a different jewelry store in San Antonio to do the work because he had yet another death in the family. and that shop lost them, and couldn't find them. Then I questioned it because last time they were made but the band was too thin. He back tracked his story and babbled on again blaming anyone but himself. I told them this is unacceptable, they need to find them and when I left the store, I cried. I was so upset about the whole encounter I didn't sleep... I went back after our trip and was told they were located and would be done in a couple days. Showed up in a few days and they weren't ready. I heard so many different stories depending on who I spoke with. And 3 excuses in the 5 months for funerals, quite a few for out sick, not working today, And if I mentioned what I was told at a last visit, they would change the current story to meet that story too. Anyway, second trip to see our daughter and still no ring to give her. Explained she would be here on x date for a long weekend visit while she is in the states at the school and they have to be done. Got a call they were ready. Went to pickup and they were not ready yet. Had to wait a bit. Finally, Abby brought them out and the rings were the exact same ... a chunky, heavy design and not the split shank or feminine designs I picked. Driving home my daughter looked at me and said, "To be honest mom, it's too heavy and the jade stone is loose in the setting, the setting is rough / pokey and I won't wear it as is. So please take it to your regular master jeweler and have him fix this mess!" I handed her my ring and she looked at it and said, yes your jade is shaking back and forth, and actually looser than mine plus there are a few rough sharp spots too. So 2 chunky heavy rings on a design style I didn't approve, don't like and nothing feminine about them like I originally picked... with crappy workmanship that was done quickly to get me out of their hair and basically needs to be redone / fixed by my favorite designer / master jeweler in New Braunfels (Kent at Malleable Jewelry).

William has been 100% trustworthy. He has such an amazing touch when it comes to custom craftsmanship, and the ability to fix the most delicate pieces. Upon searching for local establishments and seeing positive reviews and praise for customer service, I wanted to give them a chance. I brought in two watches that needed simple battery replacements, one for my wife and one of my own. Upon bringing the watches in, the lady who assisted me seemed friendly enough. I was informed that they no longer do battery replacements in house and they would need to be sent out. Bit of a surprise but ok, I wasn't in a terrible hurry to get them back and was told it'd be a couple of weeks. I received a call within the allotted time telling me they had come in and were ready to be picked up. I go to the store the very next day to retrieve them, being helped by the same person who took them in originally. My wife's watch was running perfectly fine. Mine however I noticed when handed to me was not running at all. I pointed this out and the lady called over another associate who she claimed was the one responsible for quality checks when items came back in from service. This second lady informed me that it had been running the day before when it was checked in but "sometimes they get sent back with a dead battery" and they would need to send it back. She then took it to their back room (with window facing the showroom so everything is visible where she attempted to open the watch but soon returned saying it was more complicated of a movement than she felt comfortable working with so they would send it back to the repair vendor. Red flags, but I want it fixed. Same drill as previous, they will let me know when it's ready within another couple of weeks. About a week and a half later I get a call that my watch has come back in, but am told it is not working and came back with a note that it needs to be sent in to the manufacturer. After naturally asking some questions so I fully understand what exactly was the issue, the girl on the phone became very easily flustered and VERY defensive. Not the customer service I was expecting. I wasn't being disrespectful in any form, just asking questions trying to understand what situation I was now in with a broken watch that was working perfectly fine when I took it in. I go in a few days later to pick up my watch and ask to speak with a manager so I can voice my concerns and displeasure. I relayed the timeline of events to the manager I spoke with, who retrieved and showed me my watch as it was returned with nothing but a sticky note that said to send it in to the manufacturer. No detail or explanation as to what was now wrong. Upon inspection, the crown no longer worked when trying to set the time and no movement of the hands. I was apologized to by the manager and was told that they would look further into it with their repair vendor to try and find out more info so I'd at least have something to go to the manufacturer with. I was also informed at this time that I would almost certainly be contacted by the owner, Mr. Borrego to discuss the issues with me. It has now been a full two weeks with no contact, so out of sight out of mind. I will never personally step foot into this establishment again and will tell everyone I know to avoid dealing with them as well. It's a shame because it is a nice store, but this type of service is unacceptable. I would warn anyone reading this to never entrust these people with any of your personal or sentimental valuables. Zero accountability and broken trust with the first encounter for a potential long term customer...I'll take my business elsewhere.

Do Not and I mean Do not bring your valued , loved and sentimental jewelry to this location. I have had the worst experience and have been left with nothing but melted gold , loose diamonds and a ring that's been taken apart. I was quoted about 4 months for the owner to redesign my rings and come up with a new band plus 2 extra rings with the smaller diamonds to make the bands. I called in July when it was supposed to be ready and was told they were behind and it would be early August. I then called last week and they said they were finishing up and getting them shined they would be ready by end of week. I never heard from them. So I called yesterday and I kept getting the runaround, so I decided to go up there because who would be able to lie to your face. Well that's exactly what happened. I went in and the lady had said they weren't ready and they were still casting the mold. Which mind you last week I was told they were done. at this point I'm livid and all I want is my rings back. She said she had them in the back and it would take hours for her to get them ready. That's when she went back and had her assistant come to the front to tell me that the rings were not even in the store. The owner then came back up as I asked for her and was told that nothing had been even started and that the rings were just melted down and not even in started. My mother is 82 and has vascular dementia. Her left hand swelled up like a balloon 3 days ago and her wedding ring was causing the finger to swell twice its size! Dementia patients are sensitive to situations more so than others. Finally, she agreed to let us cut the ring off her finger. Time is of the essence as the mind can change immediately. In less then 20 minutes, Mr. Peñaloza was at our door and the ring was off in just a few minutes with no pain, no fuss. He was calm, kind and my mother had no issues. Of course, now she's mad at me, but at least she can keep her finger!!! I will most certainly be taking the ring to him after COVID has died down for repair. I asked for a charm to be added and showed her where and what I wanted. I asked if she had a safety pin to mark locations. I paid for it and asked when would it be ready. She says I don't know, we have other things to do before yours. I asked can she give me a time range. I don't live in town. Would it be an hour or be ready at 4:00pm. An hour later I went to pick it up and she didn't do what I requested. I showed her again and she said "Oh. You wanted a loop there?" After I was charged for the additional loop, I finally received it 10 minutes later. I love James Avery's jewelry and customer service has always been excellent. This was a frustrating experience.
