To be honest, Fendi dragged me inside and liked the blue tie dye hoodie. The shop staff, maybe the owner, was cordial towards me and Fendi. There was a beautiful print long kaftan like dress that caught my attention. Upon inquiring, the shop owner was delighted and wanted me to try it on. This dress was the priciest item in the store, it figures! I'm always drawn to the spendy stuff :( When I don't have Fendi in tow, I'll return to try in on...although I know for a fact loose clothing looks better on a hanger than on me :/ form fitting looks better on my physiqué. The shop mostly has things tourists like. Everything from sweatshirts, hoodies and baseball caps in tie dye and labeled ' MALIBU' It goes without say, most locals will not wear this labeled MALIBU. Nonetheless very eye catching and cute and probably cool for some and worth a look see visit.

I am now the proud owner of green-framed Eyebobs brand reading glasses, see the photos…read more Here's how it happened: I had a little time to kill before the Yelp event on Malibu Pier, so I went a couple blocks down the road to Cross Creek and did a little browsing in the cool boutiques. A shiny big hat inside Encore drew me in, see the pic. It was expensive, and I was told of a celeb who bought one. I looked around at the clothes, and they were more than just sharp, they were fun. And I'm a girl who loves to have fun. Then I spotted those green glasses on the counter. Tried them on, with the green outfit I was wearing. Found out they were on sale for 20% off. Enough. I was sold. But......the strength I needed had to be ordered, so that was done. And a few days later I got the call to pick them up. Obviously, service here is perfection. And friendly to boot. I told Encore's proprietor, Diana, all about Yelp. And now I'm telling Yelpers all about Encore. And not everything at Encore is expensive. My glasses ended up costing 50 bucks, not bad for great quality. And I got a matching green case as part of the deal. I would have paid 30 bucks for reading glasses at Walgreens, and they would have been ugleeeee, and minus the cool case. Momma Yelp will be rockin' those sweet green specs at the Holiday event, look out.

One of the best boutiques ever. There are locations in Calabasas, Studio City, Del Rey, Westlake,…read moreVentura, and Agoura Hills. The stores are limited to Southern California; so, when I first moved to Los Angeles and began to explore (shopping is an activity that I just can't help but do everyday, whether I had it in mind to do or I had a full day in my "planner" ...actually, back in 2007, I did have a big "At-a-Glance" planner with an entire page per day... Anyway, I stumbled upon the Calabasas Commons because I had looked up in that app, "Around Me" and found that close to one of my three jobs I worked while going to School for my Doctorate, the Calabasas Commons was on my way home from work to where I lived in West Hollywood. I stopped by right away because it mentioned a Barnes & Noble being one of the stores there. First, I spotted M. Fredrick. I saw those gorgeous, hand-picked by their buyer. I didn't realize quite how much less expensive ever was in LA compared to San Francisco. Now, this many years later, it's no longer a thought nor a thing because I've lived here so long, but it was astonishing to me back when I was freshly 22. I picked out about 20-25 pieces of the most beautiful jeans, sweaters, shirts, shoes, tank tops and dresses. I also bought a pair of sweatpants that felt like thick silk, but mostly, like a white tiger- they were the first thing I bought the next morning on my break from work; so, I vividly remember that they were $600 before tax, which, to be honest, I did think they were on the pricey side, but I didn't think of it again. The many items I had purchased the afternoon prior came to almost $23,000, but I never ever in my life looked at prices of anything, so, it was no thing and to this day, I remember probably 7/8ths of what I bought. The clothes were definitely worth it and I would do it again, even now. The only problem is that they don't make clothes how they used to. We don't have the materials or aren't willing to use them on designer boutique clothing. Every chance I could, I went to an M. Fredric store for the next 10 years.

The very best part: employees are always nice, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. If they don't have your size or color, they'll find out if another location has it and have it sent.

This is a review of the quaint little two-building shopping center on the west side of Topanga…read moreCanyon Boulevard in Topanga, just south of the post office and north of Topanga General Store. When I was a kid, I loved the TV show CHiPs. The show started when I was too young to form memories, but they showed reruns of old shows while they were still making new ones, and I have memories of watching so many of those. When my younger nephew was about eleven, we started watching CHiPs together, and my brother and I would laugh and reminisce about all the times we as children would make fun of just how fake the car-crash scenes were. But the show has its serious moments too, and for some reason, my nephew really liked watching it. Eight years later, we still haven't gotten through all of it, but about two years ago, we had just watched season 5's episode 5, "Weed Wars," before I drove down to Southern California to visit my parents. On one of our crazy excursions, I decided to try to find the filming location where Ponch and Jon enjoy ice cream with some down-on-their-luck kids and some obligatory hot women in the obligatory three-shot freeze frames that end almost every episode. I was a little discouraged at first, but we did randomly run across one of my dad's former students' architecture office, although he wasn't there at the time. I was ready to give up, but as we exited the shopping center on the east side of the road, I noticed what looked like the general store from CHiPs down below the grade on the west side of the road. Sure enough, it was the same general store! And the little courtyard in which the gang enjoys ice cream was also here, although the table setup was a little bit different. I had found it! and only forty-two years after that CHiPs episode was filmed here. I really really really wanted to recreate the closing freeze frames with my parents eating ice cream at the tables with weird expressions like Ponch and Jon, but forty-two years later, there's no longer an ice-cream shop here. I was going to go to the general store to see whether they had Drumsticks or any other sort of ice-cream-cone-looking dessert, and then I remembered that the complex on the other side of the highway had an ice-cream store, so yes, I drove my parents back across the road, which was way more complicated and time-consuming than I thought it would be, and we got ice cream and then walked back across the road, just for my photo shoot. Sadly, my parents have not given and probably will never give the green light for me to post those crazy photos on Yelp, but I'll ask again, just in case. It was one of my happiest moments of an otherwise very dark first three months of 2023, which included getting COVID, having my home of almost twenty years burn down, and losing a great uncle. The center itself is cute. Despite not having an ice-cream shop, it does have adorable little thrown-together shops that remind me of Carmel, circa 1987. Sadly, Carmel is super froufrou and exclusive and expensive now, so you won't find random candle shops and custom-hat shops there the way you'll find them in Topanga Center. The center comes right after or right before a major turn in Topanga Canyon Boulevard, depending on which direction you're coming from. It can be easy to miss, and if you do miss it, you might have to drive a bit before there's a safe place to turn around. While the shopping center across the road is on top of a hill, Topanga Center is below the level of the road, so be careful as you're driving down, because the ramp and parking lot are old and in pretty bad shape. CHiPs fans, you must come here and recreate the ice-cream freeze frames!
