This place is actually pretty good! Personally, I think the reviews here are a little too harsh. When you compare this Malecon to the other restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, this one is phenomenal. Sure, if you're comparing it to the Washington Heights location, it falls a little short, but the Heights location is always packed, and the service there can be a chaotic mess because of it. The ambiance is alright, no frills. It's not Midtown, so don't expect fancy treatment, but it works perfectly for what it is. I've dined in a few times and ordered takeout a lot more. A huge plus is that you can always find a table pretty fast. Food-wise, it's Malecon, so you should already know what to expect. The rotisserie chicken is amazing, especially when you pair it with that delicious mojito sauce. The location is solid in my opinion. This place will no longer get any business from me. The quality of the food has definitely gone down... and the little guy who takes orders over the phone is extremely rude- I was not done placing my order and he hung up on me! When I received my order... the part of the order that I was able to place... I noticed that the chicken was bad! It was undercooked and old. The rice- like always- old and hard! I called to let them know that they sent poor quality food and that the person who originally took the order did not even let me finish. The person who I spoke to the second time around claimed to be the manager and said that it was strange that I was not able to place the complete order because (he claims) they always ask if you want anything else prior to hanging up... and then he was defensive about the food being old. He said he was the one who packed the order so he knew it was fresh. He proceeded to ask me if I wanted to bring back the food and get a fresh order. No sir... I placed the order for delivery- clearly I am not trying to leave where I am comfortable.... And about half the chicken was already in the garbage. When there to pick up a roasted chicken I noticed that they had the chickens pre-packed already but I should've had told them to give me ones that were recently coming out so they have them pre-packed already so when people ask for the chicken is ready already in the aluminium Platter when I got home that chicken was hard. My parents use to take me to the Malecon somewhere on one sixty something street when wr were kids. I remember having the shirt steak with onion. I remember it being grilled on a GRILL..not a flat top. So when ordering my steak and explaining to my Spanish speaking server in the best English I could.."GRILL SKIRT STEAK" emphasizing GRILLED! My family and I just had the worst experience in this Restaurant, we found a metal piece in the "Mondongo" and when we told the lady she said that it always happens because they clean the Mondongo with "Steel wool" I order a coffe with milk and it was terrible it was too strong and it barely had any milk on it, overall everything we order was disgusting, I suggest the manager to supervise the food before it go out to costumers because us finding a piece of steel wool in the food is unacceptable.
