We had a leak in the ceiling. Jayson came within an hour of the phone call. He diagnosed the issue with a radiator valve just above the leak. Stop my flooding basement. PLEASE!!! We live on a canal, Have 2 sump pumps not getting the job done (came with house-worked before Sandy at keeping the place dry). Sandy created crakes in the slab floor. Eventually the water /canal made its way into the basement with each high tide. Spoke with Tim from Mako who agreed with my husband that a French drain sump pump in the low corner would do the trick. To be honest I was terrified to do this, someone long ago convinced me never to break that slab. We had Tim install the new Sump Pump method & we have been bone dry ever since. I live in Valley Stream; I was looking for a local plumber and found Mako. The lady that answered the phone was very nice and helpful. Jayson came out looked at everything gave me a price and went right to work. He showed me why the bathtub was not draining properly from soap build up and an old cap in the drain. He replaced a corroded piece of pipe and snaked out the line. He also replaced the old spout on the bathtub that was not working with the shower. First off, this was the third plumber that came and looked at my house problem. We suffered from a slop sink which often backed up when we would do our laundry. Each time plumber snakes sewer lines and leaves. Mako Plumber showed up on time, where 8:00 AM meant 8:00 AM. Looked at the problem and runs through a series of tests which quickly isolate the area of the house where the problem is located. Most important he clearly showed what part of my plumbing was working correctly. Snakes the line and alerts me that snaking line will not solve the problem. He continued troubleshooting until he found that the pipe under the ground was broken and sealed closed. Replaced pipe problem solved. Five stars since they really made sure they explained how my plumbing was setup. Corrected the problem. And cleaned up thoroughly. I learned a lot about plumbing from this experience which will hopefully avoid problems in the future. I would use the service again!!! read more

This company is comprised of absolute rockstars, steeped in customer service, and exceptionally fair business practices. I had to call on Mako after Hurricane Sandy flooded my home and took out my heat and hot water system. Mako were understandably overloaded with work, but were prioritizing customers who had been affected by Sandy. They weren't my first choice, and I had numerous contractors in to bid on the work, everything from established LI heating names to "Chuck in a truck with a crack in the back" independent operators, but none of them gave me the feeling of either caring about what they were doing or pricing me fairly. Mako were the only contractor who actually took the time to listen to what I wanted and gave me helpful suggestions to size the system for my home. While I initially thought an instant hot-water system would be the way to go, they steered me in the direction of a high-efficiency boiler with indirectly-fired hot water system. This would provide both good efficiency as well as provide hot water in the event of a power outage, and I went with their Lochinvar recommendation. The installers did an exceptional job given that my basement had only recently been gutted and had just rudimentary power and facilities available. Mako also were happy to wire in some of the home-automation sensors and remote controls I chose for my rebuild, and took the time to learn along with me as I geeked out on what I could do with it. Last, but not least, their ongoing support and service in the past year has been utterly peerless. As my home rebuild continued, they stopped in to tune things up and make sure this emergency-response customer turned into a long-term relationship. While few good things came out of Sandy, I think I can count my experience with Mako among them. read more

My calculator pump dies on me overnight. I found Mako on a couple sites including Yelp and all the reviews were favorable. I called and left a message saturday morning at 9:15. I got a return call by 9:15 from the owner, Rich. He had his guy here by 11:30. They replaced my B&G100 with a tiny Grundfos unit. Then he had to bleed all the radiators. They worker, Adonis, was very professional, polite, and knew what he was doing. Thank you guys! read more

I've tried a few different ones throughout the years and they were not only the most professional, but also had the most knowledge. This is the worst plumbing company I have ever used. They sure sound nice and friendly, but this company is the worst plumbing company I ever used. They overcharge you for everything, and charge you for every single thing they do. It's really heart breaking you have these type of companies on Long Island taking advantage of people. I went to another plumbing company after my one and only experience with Mako. If you are a loyal customer, they have been taking advantage of you for years. No company should be charging for some of the things they are charging. And overcharging by a lot. Called the night before the a leak in the pipe and claimed they would be here in the morning, but rather than do a small job, left us high and dry for another more expensive job with an apartment building without even offering to refer us to someone else. I have had the Mako team to my house several times for plumbing work and boiler service and I have been very pleased with them. They are always on time, which counts for a lot, in addition to being professional, competent, and personable. They patiently and helpfully answer questions but they get right to the job with efficiency. They do have a standard fee to come out, which I personally do not find unreasonable - anyone who does should look elsewhere. I personally have found Rich and the team to be straight shooters who do great work and are courteous and trustworthy. Recommended. read more

I had a call with Rich from Mako earlier today. He began by asking how we heard about the Company and then the conversation took another route. Rich explained how Mako is an expensive company and that if we have found a cheaper company, that we should go with them for the gas conversion services which we had requested. This is even before we got to the part of scheduling an appointment for an estimate. Rich was unprofessional and quite arrogant in his tone. He spoke to us as if we couldn't afford the services without any basis or reasoning. As a first impression from Rich, this is not a Company which I would recommend as they do not seem quite customer friendly from the get-go. As a response to Mako's comment below - Rich, Thank you for your apology. The reason I contacted your company was because you have a good BBB rating. It is also due to the reviews on yelp and other sites which recommend your company because of how you treated the customer and the quality of the work which was performed. However, the first and only conversation I had with you did not portray the professionalism or the courteousness which most customers had highlighted in their reviews for you. This was quite surprising. Also, to be clear, you only agreed to finally make an appointment with a service fee, after I had stressed the fact that you were not speaking in a kind manner and asked why you were not initially offering an appointment. In fact, you mentioned that I should approach a cheaper plumber at the early stages of our conversation, before mention of a service fee. I have made appointments with plumbers previously who charged services fees for a first appointment, so this has no bearing as to why I was disappointed but it was because you were not speaking in a respectful and customer-friendly manner. I can understand charging $125 to give an estimate, I really can. However, if I'm going to fork over $125, I expect a reasonable estimate for non-emergency work. Instead, Mako's estimate came in at 5x the price that two other licensed plumbers quoted me! The whole shark team is really spot on - don't trust them! read more

When we called we told them exactly what the problem was, and we just wanted a quote and there was no mention of a service fee. But now it's $135 for a two minute check. Although I was unhappy at the time, Mako has more than made up for the misunderstanding. I would not hesitate to use them in the future. They seem like good, honest people. read more

The worst company I ever used. When it comes to an emergency call with most plumbers, you're at there mercy. With that said, this company was the absolute worst, charged over $1200 for a job, according to other plumbers, should've been no more then $600 and when they were done I had lost over 50% of my water pressure in that shower, which they knew was going to happen but didn't tell me until after they were done. I called Mako Plumbing to do a few different jobs around my house: repair outdoor shower, replace hose spicket, change the kitchen faucet, and repair a leaky pipe in the basement. They were punctual ... actually arriving a few minutes earlier than scheduled. The serviceman assessed each issue and gave me a clear and reasonable quote for each item. He left to get parts, came back one hour later. By the end of the day, every item was taken care of. This is not the first time I used Mako. They have always been reliable and professional. Stay away. If you want to be interigated and judged call MAKO plumbing. I called to schedule an appointment for a quote. However, the dispatcher was very rude and unprofessional. He asked me if I was the owner of the house, how long did I live there for as well as what happen to the previous plumber. I was kind enough to answer a long list of questions. In addition, the dispatcher stated "whenever you are finished dealing with your free or cheap plumbers call us" because I was uncomfortable paying $125 for a quote.
