I was moving out of my office and needed to get my HVAC and garage door serviced prior to move out. The experience with the HVAC company was a joke, as they didn't do what they were hired to do (Actually check out the system, confirm freon levels, etc.) but instead quoted me on a bunch of items that were not needed. Conversely to that experience, Mako Overhead door came out the same day, completed the repairs that I already knew were needed to be done and charged an honest price for the work performed. No overcharging, they didn't try to up sell me on things that I needed, just honest work for a fair price. I'm not sure what has happened to this places customer service. But it appears business is so good they don't need or wish to work with a returning customer. I'm a small business owner and was attempting to use them for the 3rd time and here's the breakdown: 1st experience was about 8 years ago. They were great! Professional fast and the scissor gates were exactly what I needed. I saved the contact info for the future. 2nd experience was 3 years about when I moved and opened a retail location. Communication was slow. They kept putting off my estimate. Ignoring as well as not returning my calls. Finally after getting upset at the whole thing taking over 3 months I wanted to cancel. It was explained to me that he was having family problems and this would be taken care of that week. Everything did get taken care of finally and after almost 4 months job was completed. No discount or real attempt to make up for how a returning customer was treated but we all have family problems so I let it go. 3rd and final experience is in regards to my new store. It is the same person as my previous experience. He came out, measured what I needed and said we would have our measurement in a couple days. That was almost 2 months ago. I've called repeatedly and he just keeps giving us the run around. Never returns a our calls and I'm just fed up. I have a feeling the guy I'm working with is the owner and doesn't really care about our business or this review. But I have to let other businesses know our experience so they can make an educated decision of their own. read more

We had to make a last minute call to Mako just before closing because our back door on the warehouse came out of the tracks and we couldn't close it. Called Mike and he was true to his word and had 2 guys out to our site within an hour. Gene was great and super friendly and was able to not only fix the initial problem but service the door and fix any potential future problems. We appreciate the great service and hard work. My garage door somehow bent and was making a lot of noise when opening/closing. I called and was told a repairman would be over the same day to check it out between 1-3 p.m. I called close to 3 p.m. because no one had shown up and was told the repairman was running late and would be over closer to 4 p.m. Fair enough, I understood completely. Then it was almost 6 p.m. and I still hadn't heard from the repairman! I called and it turned out their was a miscommunication error on their end. Mike, the repairman, came out after the call because they had forgotten to tell him I was on the list. Mike was awesome! He apologized profusely and explained the miscommunication. He checked out the problem with the garage and said he would be by in the morning with the part to fix it. He showed up, to my surprise, earlier than he had said to make up for it. He was very nice and the price was super reasonable. Very happy with his service and it was an honest mistake, not his fault at all. read more

He was friendly, safe (COVID-19 guidelines), had the parts on the truck, and the repaired the door quickly. Losing the function of your main garage door is almost as bad as losing your refrigerator. Wow. Didn't show up and didn't care. I called at 6:30am because I couldn't get my car out of the garage. Told someone would be at my house between 12-2pm. I missed going to my son's school event because I was at home waiting for repair. At 2pm I called to find out where he was, I was told his appointment before mine was more complicated than expected, but he was in Newport Beach and would be at my house in an hour. (Doesn't explain why I wasn't given a call at 1:00 when he knew his appointment was running late) I called at 4:15 when no call or no repairman. The "gentleman" said his guy was in Fountain Valley and it would be 45 more minutes. No apology no explanation. I said cancel him I'm going with someone else, he said "OK" and hung up. Must be nice to not need customers or good reviews. I'm a very loyal consumer, I always try to go with small owner-run businesses. I called Mako because they repaired my door the last time and left their sticker on the motor. (Now I'm suspicious of the work they did because the springs were suppose to have a 10 year warranty ) I'm the kind of customer who will go out of my way for a good company who appreciates my business. This company should rewrite their slogan to read "We take the bite out of the customer". In 2008 I came across this company to replace my 24 year old overhead garage door that had worked reliably but just ceased to work. You expect these problems after 20 years. I tried to find the former company's number but with no avail. I searched for overhead garage doors and found MAKO. On memory I cannot remember them coming within less than 24 hours, an emergency service announced in their ads, but they showed up and replaced my garage door. Four years later I have a problem with the overhead garage's central control to open the door. On November 19th MAKO came out, had called them at 10:30 pm and they arrived the day later. I was not complaining as I do not expect a company to come out for repairs after hours. Then on 12/13/2012 the door would not open due to a cable broken. I called at 4:30 pm asking for emergency service as I was planning a 50 person party on December 16h. My housekeeper and brother noticed that the door on the left side was hanging by a thread. The owner Mike Mc Call promised service people in an hour which would be 5:30 PM, Mike McCall branded me as a "psychotic" as I demanded that he keep to his work commitment when the time reached 5:40 pm. To show how defensive he was, he yelled at me that I was off a minute for their service people to arrive. The truth is they arrived an hour and a half late. Folks, a company's job tags should not lie, as written by their employees. This is what is stated on the job tag: service person left job at 6:30 pm arrived at my job at 7:00 pm and left job at 7:45, and for some reason they calculate on my job tag that they can arrive back at their shop at 8:15 pm. Here I am left with a door that if it fell might cause injury to anyone entering from the outside. I would be sued not Mr. Mike McCall. He failed to see the danger that he was causing me by not coming earlier to repair the problem. Furthermore, why didn't their service people check the whole overhead garage system on November 19, 2012. I come from a family of new car dealers who have been in the business for 90 years if we failed to check the entire car for our customers we certainly would hear about it. I was willing to pay for MAKO services, but Mike McCall decided he would not charge me BUT WITH THE CONDITIONS LISTEN HERE, that he would not give me a warranty for their work and I would not write a review of their services--hence forfeiting my freedom of speech. This is like saying folks I give slipshod service but I don't want to hear anymore guff from you as a customer, leave me alone and I will give it to you free. To be fair, the employees who work for Mako are very polite and seem to want to do a good job, but they are faced with a nutjob of an owner, who should well just collect money and stay out of the day to day operations of the company. read more

GET A PRICE IN ADVANCE! $250.00 FOR 20 Minutes of adjustment work? No parts needed. This place is a scam. Mike, the owner, is a con artist. I asked them to come over for an estimate (I said nothing about an emergency, just inquired when they could stop by). Two workers in a Mako truck came by a few hours later and went ahead did the work (without my verbal or written approval) and then turned around charged me $250. The workers seemed embarrassed and offered to let me speak to their boss, Mike, on the phone. Mike said he would take $200 cash (because he is not only a con-artist, but likely a tax cheat). So I just paid it to get this guy out of my hair. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. IT'S OWNER/MANAGER MIKE IS A RIP-OFF (but the workers were friendly and courteous). read more

When I arrived at my jobs location I found two gentleman working on the roller doors for the unit i work in. At first I didn't see their equipment on the floor and noticed their truck next door thinking they were next door, I was wrong. I ended up pulling in and running over some of their equipment. At first I was aggravated because I figured someone would have stopped me but after apologizing they told me not to worry about it. Christian Giuliano & Geno Ganus were wonderful, they explained how we could get a hold of them if something went wrong w/ the door, they were very nice and honest. I didn't hire them, they were hired by our property management. That speaks a lot, I am in the service industry and I know some workers can act like, if you are not paying me your opinion doesn't matter. My next door neighbor recommended Mako to me to replace the spring that suddenly broke late afternoon the Friday before Labor Day weekend, trapping my car in the garage. Made an appointment for 9 AM the following day (Saturday) and the Mako rep showed up on time, quickly assessed the situation and got to work. The needed repairs were completed at a very reasonable price. I would definitely recommend Mako for garage door repairs. read more

A pleasant sales rep stops by every few years to make sure the Mako sticker is still beside my commercial roll-up door. And it worked...when I needed a repair, I called Mako. This was not an emergency, so I was totally fine with waiting a few days or more. I agreed to the $198 price quote given on site. A few sledge hammer whacks later, the job was done. This is one of the best companies that I have ever dealt with! They are very professional and honest. My garage door went off track and it was a huge disaster. I thought we would need to replace the garage door and spend a ton of money. The owner, Mike, spoke to me and reassured me that it probably wasn't so bad and gave me a great quote. Hi I had the "pleasure" to deal with the sales man Doug and after he hung up on me I dealt directly with the owner, Mike. Their contract does not have details and they added later $ 30.00 for the paint. If you try to negotiate, they hang up on you. Also I asked few times to send somebody to inspect the property which the roll up door was suppose to be installed, they said, they did, but actually didn't, which caused change of plan not to my satisfaction. When the door was ready, the owner Mike, called and said that "if I will not be there within half an hour and pay, they will remove the door. (I was 20 miles away) the price was ok as other companies will charge similarly, the installation was ok too, but, as I mentioned, not exactly what I had in mind. This is the best "emergency" repair experience I have ever had! When trying to leave for work this morning my roll-up garage door would not open more than an inch. I called Mako @ 7am; by 8:10am the technician had arrived and by 9 am he was already done (replaced a broken spring). Called at 6:30 AM Saturday morning to fix a broken torsion spring. Answered by a live friendly human and set me up with an appointment for the first AM service call. Mike showed up did an excellent job, fixed my door and replace the single spring with a dual spring system and was out in an hour. He did a safety check, cleaned up and charged me the agreed upon price. SCAM ALERT Had mako come and fix a broken spring on my garage door.. The door didn't close properly when it was done. Called back to them and they said they would call me back. Two days later no word. My check was cashed and had a door that didn't work property.. I had to call out a differant company to properly fix the door.. On a Friday evening around 8PM, I heard a loud bang in my garage. When I went to check it out - sure enough, the spring had busted. I called Mako and the representative said they could be out first thing Saturday morning to fix it. True to their word, Mike the owner and one of his employees punctually arrived at our agreed upon time and hastily got to work. In no time they had the old parts removed and new components installed. My friend BC referred me to Mako and I'm really glad I went with them. My garage door broke down late at night - the top portion of the garage was supported only by one bolt by a previous installer. I called Mako the next morning and they sent Randy over to fix it. He was really fast and not only fixed the problem and the wires on the side that were reversed, he lubricated and did an inspection to ensure the garage was secure. Recommended by my parents who had used them a few times with their property mgmt. company, with a few small complaints. I called Tuesday, but not an emergency so they scheduled me for first thing Wed. 9 - 10 am.Quoted a $199 price to replace broken spring in my roll-up door. I called at 10:30 Wed. to see when they were coming and why they hadn't even called yet. Was told they would have the tech call in 30 - 45 minutes when they were on their way. At 11:30 I started looking for someone else. Found one that quoted a $150 estimate and they said they could be there in 20 - 30 minutes. They both showed up at the same exact time. I got a business card from the tech that was over 3 hours late and told him I was going to use the guy behind him that had showed up in 22 minutes. I don't understand how a company can operate like this? I also don't understand how Yelp gives them a 3 1/2 stars when out of 12 reviews they have 5 with 1 star? Before spending your money here -- ask yourself if kindness and respect is something to consider when purchasing from a company. Today, on the 101 freeway, a representative (probably the owner of the company) that was driving a personal white car with the company's website posted in decals on the back bumper (www.makodoors.com), harassed me while I was driving, for over a mile! He started by tail gating, then rode along side me waiting for me to acknowledge, and then finally flipped me off and sped away. People like this can't be stopped but can be encouraged to think twice! By thinking twice about where you choose to take your business -- rude, indecent and anger driven people like that man, may get the hint! Peace, patience and kindness, people. Couldn't get garage to close. They sent over a guy within about 45 min. Told me my motors was going out and made a half turn on the garage door motor to get most power out of it. They were here less then 3 min. $89.00 service fee charge. I get the charge but really $89.00. Could have charged me half , knowing that I will need a new garage door soon.
