If you would like an overpriced cake that tastes absolutely horrible making that cake is for you. We spent close to $500 on my daughters first birthday cake and it wasn't worth $5. Angela could possibly be the rudest most difficult person I have ever worked with. 6 days before the party realizing how difficult she was we decided to cancel the cake and she told us she started it (6 days early) and could not and proceeded to scream at us on the phone. I really should have read the earlier yelp reviews on this horrible person and horrible company because she truly ruined our daughters first birthday cake. Awful. read more

Making the cake has sold me a $140 cake which was not even edible. The cake looked fine from the outside, but inside it was stale and sponge like. Everyone at the party took no more than one bite. I went to a local pub one evening with a friend. After our meal we decided to have the dessert special of the day which was coconut cream pie. We each took one bite and we melted. It was the BEST coconut cream pie we had ever tasted. I immediately ask the waitress for an extra slice to take home but it had sold out. They were kind enough to give me the bakery chief that made it and here we are. I decided for my birthday I wanted this pie instead of a cake. I've used Making that Cake for two baby showers now and I've been very happy both times. For the first shower I ordered pie pops and cake pops and both were absolutely delicious. I ordered a nautical themed cake for the second shower and not only was it delicious but it looked absolutely adorable as well. I ordered individually wrapped cookies to include as part of gift bags. Angela delivered them unwrapped. She admitted she messed up but would only offer to drop off the bags/packaging to me the next day, which was too late. I prefer to deal with vendors that bend over backwards to fix mistakes. Someone else would have messengered the wrappers over. The cookies were useless to me unless they were individually wrapped. Total waste of money. read more

I want to start off by saying that the design of the cake was very pretty, and she made the cake look like how I had asked her to. That being said, everything else about this cake was horrible. I had ordered a red velvet cake that she said she could only do butter cream frosting with (which I was fine with as long as it tasted good). The "red velvet cake" was a light brown colored very dense, very dry, very awful tasting almost bread like sponge. And the butter cream frosting tasted like plain old whipped butter, which was gross. I had specially ordered this cake for my sister's 18th birthday party and we were all so excited to dig in to, until we cut into it and saw what it looked like and then tasted like. I can honestly say no one ate more than one or two bites of their piece and it was just to be polite. The rest of the cake (which was more than half) was thrown out. There goes $140! I emailed Angela right away about this nightmare, and after emailing back and forth I got no where with her. She refused to give me a refund. I would have accepted a partial refund, but according to her, her policy is that "We do not do refunds on food products." She did offer to make a "simple" cake in replace of this one, but like I already explained to her, the party has come and gone, and our friends and family have embarrassingly already tried her really bad tasting "red velvet cake". I wouldn't dare do that again to them. I've learned my lesson, even if it meant losing $140 and embarrassing myself and my poor sister on her birthday. I will never order from her again. I suggest ordering from a real bakery where they will take care of their mistakes and compensate for them, or hopefully not make any baking mistakes at all! read more

I ordered a cake for my son's first birthday after I saw their website. The website looked very nice and the cakes looked very nicely done. However, the cake was the worst one I ever tried. I had to throw more than half of the cake because my guests did not want to eat it. It was very embersing and very disappointing. Decorations were a -OK. For $130 you get 3 layers of a staled and very dry sponge cake, with 2 very, very, very, thin layers of the butter cream that is overly sugary. I ordered my son's baptism cake from Making that Cake. The cake was gorgeous and we were excited to serve it to our guests. Sadly this cake was completely dried out on the inside. I really don't know what happened and I could tell our guests were also confused by the stale and crumbly cake. So sad since the reviews from others were so positive. It seems like hit or miss with this baker and I don't think I'd chance another dry crumbly cake. read more

My 3 year-old nephew's birthday was in two short days, and I needed to find someone who could make a cake that could feed 30+ people - oh, and that looked like a train! I called several bakeries and they all pretty much laughed at me on account of the tight time line. But when I called Making That Cake, the owner (and cake creator), Angela, assured me that she could get the job done. Sure enough, when I dropped by the morning of the party, the cake - or should I say incredible locomotive and car full of gold - was boxed up and ready to go. This thing was amazing - and the kids loved it. My nephew was practically entranced by this work of art. Of course, that didn't keep him and his pals from digging in, and I'm happy to report that Angela's creation tasted as good as it looked. All told, this was one of those rare experiences where a last-minute need for a unique service was met with an unexpectedly high degree of professionalism.
