Maker's Craft is a cool spot to hang out. There's a lot of seating both indoors and outdoors, so it feels like the kind of place you can settle in for a while without feeling cramped. One unique thing about this place is that it's connected to Emerson's cigar lounge, so if you're into cigars you can smoke either inside or outside in the designated areas. Not something you see at many breweries. Another thing I appreciated was that there are outdoor areas where kids aren't allowed. A lot of breweries turn into unofficial playgrounds with kids running around everywhere, which can definitely kill the vibe. There were still kids here, but they weren't everywhere, so it struck a nice balance. They also have a good selection of seltzers for people who aren't big beer drinkers, which is a nice option to have. The bartenders were cool and easygoing too. The bathroom was clean, which is always appreciated. The only downside was there were no paper towels, so I had to open the door with freshly washed hands like some kind of hand-hygiene gamble. Maker's Craft Brewery has a wonder variety of beers that one or a group of people can enjoy in its huge garden area. This is the epitome of a splendid beer garden. The brewery is very family- and dog-friendly because I saw folks (and dogs) of all ages from kids to senior citizens. Also, there's actually a couple of areas where folks can openly smoke without having to hide in the shadows. Generally speaking, I thought the prices of the beers were pretty comparable to other similar places in the area. Also, the staff was pretty friendly and helpful. Note to dog owners: The outdoor area has a 3-bark rule in that it's highly recommended that if your dog is constantly barking, then you should leave. However, I do not know if that rule is enforced because during our visit, a customer's dog was barking a lot, and no one seemed to care or say anyting. read more

Maker's Craft Brewery is a huge venue. It has everything you'd want in a brewery. And... there is a cigar lounge through Emerson's Cigars, including a well stocked humidor. There is a cigar lounge, the regular tap room which features pool tables and a juke box. There is also a spacious outside area. This would be a great place for groups. There are also some TVs if you want to catch a game. On this Saturday there was college football playing. There was also a food truck with sandwiches and smoked wings. The BEER: Stairway to Heffen Heffeweizen 5.4% ABV... it's a decent Heffeweizen Virginia Haze Lager 4.8% ABV... fruity, slightly hoppy Lager. It was good. English Pub Ale 6% ABV... all day crushable ale Murder Hornet DIPA 8.6% ABV... this is the one, hoppy, smooth with some citrus notes. My favorite here. I feel like I could be a regular here. I tagged along with my best friend who had a work function there on a Friday night. Plenty of parking. Outside is huge with plenty of seating. The inside was live because it was karaoke night. There were plenty of beers to choose from. I forgot the name but I got a peach flavored beer which was really good. There was a Caribbean food truck there but they have different food trucks daily. so i actually love this place. we invited all our friends to meet us. everything was great until my one friend wants to get food from the food truck. she can't order or pick up food from the truck because the heavy electric wheelchair she depends on can't jump the stupid 4" granite curb down to the surface of crushed gravel. you need to do better in a town full of disabled veterans. read more

We thought the Mexican beer was too sweet and the hot pepper ones were too spicy for our tastes. An enclosed room was located off to the side of the bar for smoking. Many tables and two pool tables inside the building. Employee was helpful and attentive. The restrooms were clean. Street and private lot parking was available. HC assessable. read more

The beer was fine. Not a favorite for my husband nor I but nothing we had was bad. The inside was nice and I love their outdoor space. They also have a separate area which they use for events which is cool. The biggest complaint is the smell of smoke. They also have a cigar bar in a separate room but it means that the taproom smells of smoke. It also seems very smoker friendly with multiple ash trays and lots of people smoking outside. If you're sensitive to smoke like I am, I wouldn't recommend coming here, and if you do then definitely plan to sit outside. We might come back but it's not on our list of places we have to return to just because of the smoke. I'll also add that, while they have a parking lot, it's not huge and parking in the area can be a bit tough if it's a busy time like when there's an event. read more

Excellent brewery with specialty cigar store and huge outdoor area. I haven't met a beer here that I didn't like. Beer-tenders are knowledgeable and always indulge in a little banter while pouring brews. Weekends are easily the best days to enjoy their facilities. They have a couple pool tables, board games, live music and at least one food truck on site. I have even run into a marker's fair being held on site. If I'm being honest, I have driven past Maker's Craft Brewery probably 20 times in the past couple of years. EVERY TIME I see it, I say I need to go visit and we finally did recently after a morning at the Zoo. I wish I had come sooner! We lucked out with a beautiful weekend and we arrived close to opening so we had our choice of outdoor seating. They do a great job of keeping the outdoor area open and inviting - plenty of adirondack chairs, benches, picnic tables with umbrellas and shaded space. I love getting fresh air at breweries (honestly, it makes the beer taste better!) and bonus if there's sun protection too. The interior is just as inviting with plenty of low and high-top seating. board games, arcade games, a pool table, super clean restrooms and, if it floats your boat, a huge, enclosed cigar bar. What a cool spot! There were at least 15 different beers on tap along with craft soda. I actually tried the cherry soda on this visit and was so surprised at how light it was! Most sodas are way too sweet for me. This was perfect. I like the offering of half pours as it usually allows me to try more options. On this visit, I tried a couple of their Oktoberfest offerings which were both delicious. There is a separate space for special events (on this date, they had a flower-arranging class happening) and they have a full calendar of things like yoga, live music, movie viewings and karaoke. Never a bad excuse to go have a few drinks and relax! Honestly, with the live music, good food and great weather, I was surprised on this visit that it wasn't busier. I went here for an event. This location is a brewery and cigar lounge in one. There's plenty of indoor seating and a great outdoor space to enjoy. I don't drink alcohol so I got the black cherry soda and it was pretty good. I prefer my sodas to be sweeter but it was a good alternative to beer. The cashiers were very friendly and personable. I've ran past this spot many times while jogging in Norfolk and doing the Heart of Ghent races but haven't stopped in as I'm not a drinker and so I mostly avoid Breweries bc I'm not the target. Last week we came for a work event to say goodbye to our boss who is retiring. We were a large group of around 30 and they easily accommodated us outside on their large lawn with a pergola, bar tables and seats, and additional seating all around. Inside is also nice with tons of seating and beers on tap. The day we came there was a delicious food truck serving up fresh sandwiches and french fries. We stayed as long as we needed and the vibe was relaxed. Always food trucks and fun things going on here - it's a great spot to come with friends and hang out and enjoy the ambiance. read more

There is some street parking nearby but a really big Brewery overall! Plenty of seating indoors and out and they have a humidor and cigar lounge. You can buy the cigars and take them outside to smoke as well. They will but it for you and give you matches. Friendly staff overall. We ordered a flight of beer: Raspberry Wheat - light raspberry flavor while still being light and refreshing. Braggot Honey Ale - this was my favorite. Slightly sweet with the honey and rely easy to drink. Great for a hot summer day. Ghost Pepper Stout - a little disappointed but still a good Stout overall. Not really spicy, there's a small hint of it throughout the Stout. ECKO Barrel Aged Porter - very smokey and a little heavy for summer but a great flavor and great pairing with cigars. Maker's was where we hosted a retirement event a few weeks ago, we have previously hosted an event there and really enjoyed it. However, this event while ran smoothly during the event we were under the impression we were running a tab and paying for 2 drinks per guest and once paying the tab realized we were charged for 2 drinks for 100 guests when we had only 72. After re reading the emails/agreements with their event coordinator I reached out via email and was told someone was looking into this issue, yet no one has returned any emails to me and I have reached out multiple times. While we like the space we feel as though the pricing was unfairly charged and if they misspoke on the pricing that should be something they deal with in house and not penalize us for this. I would appreciate having someone reach out to resolve this issue. read more

This brewery has both amazing beer and a beautiful space. They have a large outdoor courtyard, with lots of Adirondack chairs and benches to relax while having a pint. They have a very wide selection of beers. I really enjoyed their habanero and ghost pepper stouts in particular. I ended at Maker's chasing a specific food truck that I thought was going to be there but was not. My friend and I decided to stay and check out the brewery. It's a large and spacious place indoors and outdoors. Not being a beer drinker, I went to check out the food trucks that were there. There were several. I opted for the vegan food truck and my friend checked out one of the other trucks. We got our food and settled in at a table. Evidently, they have a changing array of food trucks. My friend ordered a flight of different beers and enjoyed every single one of them. There were a lot of people there (single, dating, married, married with children) and everyone was enjoying themselves. I had a great time. The staff was warm and friendly. What a great place. Seriously, this place has all the making of what it takes to be a great brewery in a highly competitive space. They really do hit all the marks: - Dog friendly? Yup - Good beer? Yup - Outdoor space that's comfy? Yup Then to top it off, for some of you who are cigar aficionados, there's a cigar bar attached to the facility in a separate room. I've noticed that if I were a hardcore cigar guy, the beers would match quite well. Maybe on the next visit. :) We don't go down to Norfolk all too often however with our dog we have every intention of making our way down there for the spring/summer time. It's dog friendly, family friendly, and even "beer snob" friendly - I was given a few samples, and there was a wide variety of styles on tap. Great, expansive outside seating area that's well suited for music and dogs. The beers tend to be on the light or dark side. Even trying their Double IPA, the Murder's Hornet, it was one of the maltier IPAs I have ever rank. For my second beer, I tried the Italian Pilsner, aka the Fuhgeddaboudit, It had almost no bitterness at all, with a lemon and berry flavor, but certainly not too sweet. Staff was friendly, and as we were visiting on September 10, we had the option to buy a beer for a first responder, which was a very thoughtful promotion. Went out for a nice even with friends & there kids it was a really good time watching everyone especially the kids running around having a amazing time being kids. Apparently the owner doesn't like the kids running on the grass being kids. beer is good, however the owner hates children and makes it more than obvious she doesn't want them there. aside from their "rules" sign that essentially eliminates kids from doing anything kids do, the owner swooped in on her flying broomstick multiple times to reprimand my wife for kids playing that weren't even our kids. At one point our daughter kicked her shoes off and the owner again got on our case cause she said it's a brewery and there's broken glass everywhere. I asked her why she was constantly coming after my wife and she told us to get out and never come back. 1) there was no broken glass anywhere and 2) why is there broken glass all over your "family" establishment? hard pass on this place again, the owner seems to hate children and doesn't want you there if you have them. read more

When it comes to opening a new business, first impressions are extremely important. That being said, Maker's Craft brewery is firing on all cylinders! This place has almost anything you could want... Food trucks, live music, pool tables, outdoor seating with games, and even a cigar room. Everything was well thought through, even down to their logo.. The service was friendly and extremely helpful. If I had to choose a weak point it would be the parking, but you really shouldn't be drinking and driving anyway, and their selection of beer is kind of limited. I expect the selection to only improve with this brewery being brand new. They didn't have any sour beers or saisons if that's your thing, but the prices are extremely fair and they serve beer flights. I see a bright future for this Brewery. It is absolutely one of the best ones that I've been to in the Norfolk area and I can't wait to visit again and again! read more

I was also highly impressed with how easy the stout was to drink. Service was quick and friendly, and they were busy but they didn't seem to bother them at all. It's Friday and we got off work a little early so I asked my wife if she wanted to stop by Maker's for a beer. Why not? We absolutely love the English Pub Ale. But, in honor of the Kentucky Derby, they have a special limited release beer called Mint Julep. It's minted and aged in bourbon barrels. I never expected to be blown away by this beer. It is spectacular! The space is so comfortable and inviting. They have a wonderful outside area. They have a regular mix of great food trucks. What a cool place! My boyfriend brought me here so we could play some pool. It was my first time visiting. It is spacious inside as well as outside. Lots of seating for both. Dogs are welcome in the courtyard. They had a food truck outside that was serving vegan soul food. It looked delicious. I had already eaten or I would have tried it! I'm not sure how often they have food trucks frequent but thought that was pretty awesome. There was also a concert going on in the other side. Live music is always a bonus! I loved the aesthetic inside. Very open and airy space; high ceilings, and various, plentiful seating. Picnic tables, high tops, small round tables.
