It's a Hawaiian take on coffee here in Santa Clarita...Now if you did not already know this, Hawaii does have some good coffee...Their Kona is da bomb. Julianna greeted us and explained how they make the Brown Sugar Cinnamon Cold Brew with a cloud on top...she had me at "cloud!" It was smooth, not too sweet and the espresso was not masked. I also ordered the individual coffee cake which was freshly baked. It was moist inside with a crunchy cinnamon topping. I've been a frequent visitor to Makenna Koffee in Valencia for years. Over the past couple of months, they've been changing their menu, and not for the better. I recently ordered two breakfast sandwiches, and for whatever reason they no longer included cheese. I wish they had told me before I spent $15. If cheese is no longer available, they could at least let customers know that cream cheese options are available. The breakfast sandwiches used to be the bomb back in the day, but these days they're almost inedible. Also, is it really that hard for baristas to remember their customers' names and usual orders? My first time trying Makenna Coffee in SCV. I got the Shaken brown sugar Maui and it was good. The dairy base tasted like melted vanilla ice cream and their coffee is strong and just blends in so well with the milk. It sounds really sweet but it's not as sweet as I expected it to be. Been here many times at all times of the day. Weekends in the morning are busiest but there are several options to order if you need like calling in or using Local by Toast. The app is suuuper easy and has all the customizations to choose from. And you earn rewards points. I love the Maui Vanilla Latte with Maui milk. So smooth creamy and delicious. People saying there are lines and the wait it too long must really be annoyed Starbucks or In n Out or Chic Fil A and many other fast foods places. The staff working there are hustling and clearly it's a popular place when there are lines. In the end I don't see it being much of a wait at all. Plus the app is great for ordering ahead. I've given this coffee shop chance after chance because they have such an extensive menu, and I especially love their seasonal and holiday drink offerings. Unfortunately, the service and wait times continue to be a major issue. My most recent visit was about a week ago, and nothing had changed. I stopped in during the middle of the day when there wasn't even a line, yet it still took over 20 minutes to get my drink. To make matters worse, it was missing the Kona cloud that I paid extra for. This isn't a one-time occurrence either, I've lost count of how many times I've ordered a drink that either came with cold foam or I had cold foam added, only for it to be missing. The staff is usually willing to remake the drink, but after repeatedly experiencing the same mistakes, it becomes frustrating. Between the long waits and frequent order inaccuracies, it feels like attention to detail is lacking. On multiple visits, employees seemed more focused on chatting with each other than keeping orders moving efficiently. I've also tried ordering ahead through the app, hoping that would help, but I've still run into issues with drinks being made incorrectly or not being ready when the app indicated they would be. It's disappointing because the drinks themselves are good and the menu is one of the best around. But when every visit seems to involve either a long wait, a mistake with my order, or both, it's hard to justify coming back regularly. I've been here twice in the last few weeks during the weekends. Each time it is complete chaos. The store is too small to accommodate the number of customers, there are only a few tables so it would be difficult to find seating if you planned to sit down to drink your coffee and eat. The line is usually super long and there's no designated area to wait for your order. The staff haphazardly calls out your name as the drinks are ready, and many people crowd the area near the register as this is where orders that are ready are placed. I had to sift through many people to get to the front to get my drink, and we had to do this multiple times because our drinks were called as they were ready. This place really needs some organization with their ordering system, and they need a space for picking up orders. I really think their store is too small. I didn't try any of the food here, but they do offer breakfast sandwiches and some baked goods. Their drink menu is huge and actually a bit overwhelming. Parking lot is a bit small but otherwise big if you don't mind walking. It's connected to a church I believe and some other shops nearby. Walked in, there was a line and busy. It was loud and everyone there seemed to be on their laptop. I ordered The Nutty Irishman which I've had before and it was phenomenal as always, and my mom ordered a mixed berry smoothie that she really enjoyed. Solo Bathroom is gender neutral and, like the service, hot or miss on the cleanliness and stocking of paper products. Unfortunately, even though there were no other customers in line, I stood at the counter for over 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. The staff seemed more interested in chatting than helping. When I finally ordered, I was told their matcha is pre-sweetened -- which completely defeats the health benefits . Starbucks, for example, lets you choose whether to add syrup or honey . So far, of all the possible coffee joints I have been to, this one takes the best as the most refreshing. Been to coffee bean, Starbucks, Philz, bodhi leaf, Dutch bros., WE lounge, Honu, Peet's and several other indie chains all around and this one had the best taste. That being said, the cream on top was very sweet but minimal. It gives the bitter taste of the cold brew coffee iced I ordered a much more desirable dopamine boost. The price was moderate. It wasn't too expensive nor cheap either given the size and quality, quantity of the drink. What bums me out is the ice quantity in most of these drinks. Yes, ice makes the drink better, but not half the cup. The quality was spot on. The taste was refreshing and made me feel happy after I drank it. I'm thrilled to say the "coconut cold brew" will be my regular the next time I order because it was delicious. Price for the 24 oz. Hovered around $7. Inside is loud and crowded in a small but quaint interior. Outside, there is a big enough parking lot to park your car since it is in a plaza loaded with a lot of other restaurants and a church in the back in Southern California. The only issue to my personal experience was the wait. It took about 20 minutes to receive my drink, albeit there were several people crammed in the place and quite a bit of people coming in and going. The baristas and cashiers? Women as expected and young. Not surprised, almost all baristas, even at Starbucks are 90% female. Service was friendly, I enjoyed it. Overall, I recommend it although some people disagree with the experience. Most of the drinks contain excessive amount of sugar, a lot of it so be careful. I'd normally just get a cold brew without anything in it as it is the least sugar and least calories possible. Unfortunately, there was no option to this unless specifically ordered that way. I figured one sugary drink that was semi sweet isn't too shabby once a month. However, I had some minor negative gut symptoms afterwards due to this type of drink.
