I wanted to stop by before they closed permanently. I'm genuinely so sad about it because the drink I got was so good, and I was already excited to come back and try more items on the menu. Such a cute space! I've been hearing some hype about Honu Coffee so I decided to give it a try! I got the Nutty Hawaiian drink but instead of the coconut syrup I got vanilla syrup! The drink itself wasn't my favorite to be honest. It was super nutty and grainy. There is an upstairs to do work/play games with some seating and couches. As my car is being looked at, at a nearby Firestone, I took a relaxing walk and saw quite a few coffee shops to choose from. I stopped at this one because it has a quaint and lovely storefront. So why not. I requested a low sugar hot coffee, and the sweet lady recommended a sugar free vanilla latte. I wanted almond milk over the whole milk. It turned out absolutely perfect, and delicious. I also got myself a coffee cake (probably loaded with sugar) but I'm going to nibble on it. Was passing thru town. Saw the good reviews so came here to get some coffee. The store has a comfy look to it. Baristas are friendly and even suggested some variants of the coffee. I got the cappuccino with macadamia nut milk. The taste was good. Ended up getting a bag of coffee beans. They gave me a fresh batch. I also saw empanadas on the menu and gave it a try. First of all, the store is super cute. I love that they sell homemade syrups and other goods. However, the couches did look a little dirty. Ordered a vanilla latte with high hopes after seeing that they sell their syrups, beans, etc! Service was quick and the drink was out relatively fast. When I first drank it, I felt like it had a strange bitter undertone for a latte. I added a bit of agave, so it was sweet, but I could still taste the bitterness as an aftertaste. I realized that it tasted like the beans had been burnt. Additionally, the latte tasted watered down by too much milk. I couldn't taste much of the coffee or vanilla, just burnt coffee and milk. Try their specialty drinks. On our most recent visit we had the tsunami and the nutty Hawaiian. They were both very good. They also have a loft with some tables and comfortable seats. If planning to study, I would bring noise canceling earphones or AirPods as it can get a little noisy. Would definitely go back again. We've been major Honu Coffee supporters for yeaaars now but the quality of their drinks have gone down, same as their customer service. The bad reviews about the service are spot on. The employees seem aloof and moody and seem like they don't want to be there. We usually get the surfin' Honu, cold brews and latte, as well as donuts and empanadas. I even have the growlers to take home. The flavor of the drinks has been inconsistent and sub par. The Last time we got the surfin' Honu it was warm! So today I figured I'll get a Vanilla latte and it had soo much milk in it and it's not even cold. I went back in and asked if I can make some adjustments to it and they offered to add another shot. And the barista told me that if I wanted my coffee stronger to get it Hot. Um Ok. Yea. Instead of an iced latte, I'll get it piping Hot when it's 80 degrees outside. That just irked me and I'm on a liquid diet right now so my iced lattes are my Only treat! I look forward to them. Usually it's whatever but yea. I think Long-running businesses just grow complacent over time. When that happens, it might be best to move on, take them off your rotation, and start supporting another place that still earns your time and money. read more

I've been wanting to come here for awhile during my stop on the Metrolink, and I'm so glad that I stopped by! Ambiance is so cute and cozy and the service is impeccable! The girl who helped me was so sweet and patient while we were ordering (it was our first time here) and really made us feel welcome!! I went to Laemmle to watch "Alien Romulus" and I had a $5 off coupon here and was like what the heck? Let's try out this coffee bean/Starbucks indie drink place. As such, it is similar to another place in San Francisco with coffee and snacks. I tried out the nitro cold brew. It used to be $3.50 cents 10 years ago. Now?, it's $5.70. Unfortunate, yes, but the coffee was big for what you pay for. Starbucks; however, is better quality but less of it. The price nearly the same. At coffee bean, they don't sell cold brews by itself, but instead add syrup and sugar to it making it that much more worse than it can be. Ambiance inside was tiny. Luckily, I was the only person inside at the time. The service was quick, but some new employees were being trained as I ordered. Young kids, probably in high school. The barista must have been 14 years old. It seems as if this is a small family owned business. I have seen the turtle sign every time I drive by and I never went because I never had a coupon until last month. The coffee was good, strong and bitter. It was fresh with a strong aftertaste. Smooth like a cold beer without the alcohol. Refreshing on a very hot summer day. I liked it, but didn't love it. Maybe if I tried one of their specialties like the Hawaiian or the tsunami flavors, I might have been excited more. Close to my favorite place: Laemmle theater and egg plantation in old newhall. They also have seasonal menus. I tend to visit for the seasonal drinks. Although it isn't my top place for coffee, when I feel like a treat or just something sweeter, I'll recommend this place. They just had their anniversary a few months ago. They had specials and a raffle. It was good to see their regulars and some of the community support. read more

One day I realized this place was less than a tenth of a mile from me, and I ordered a tsunami with an add shot and strawberry (TRY IT!) and my life has never been the same. I relocated to Denver temporarily and spent my entire time in Denver desperately searching for anything relatively similar and was devastated nothing came close. I moved back to California and specifically picked another place in downtown Newhall, so I could always stop by before work. Not only is the coffee incredible, but the baristas? I would hand deliver them all infinite happiness and large raises if I could. They've chatted me through promotions, breakups, moving, returning, long days, tough work projects, etc. They always take such genuine interest and care in such short interactions. I've been coming here so long all the baristas have memorized my order, but now they've even got my boyfriend and his son's orders memorized. It is magical, and makes them feel special to feel the warmth and character of a small, hometown, coffee shop like this. read more

I had the nutty Hawaiian half sweet and it was still a bit too sweet for my liking. Also, I feel like I was missing some of that espresso flavor, because it was a bit too creamy. The customer service here could really use some work. I came in to pick up a mobile order and realized I needed a cup holder for my drinks. As one of the employees (blonde, short girl) passed by, I said "excuse me" multiple times. Nothing. I tried "hello" and even "ma'am" still no response. She kept walking and then just stood behind some supplies, completely ignoring me. Eventually, another employee finally peaked over behind the wall to see who kept asking for assistance, since I probably sound annoying repeating myself. Once a year at least I come up to Valencia/Newhall area to meetup for a Christmas Party with friends. So I came early to grab a coffee somewhere and I trusted my handy Yelp app to find a good Independent Coffee Shop....though I can always opt for SBUX I like to support these small businesses and they genuinely do have better coffee or drinks most times! This is located in Old Town Newhall which I don't think I've ever been to. Parking was kinda packed but found street parking. I got one of their Holiday Lattes which I generally don't get because of sugar content :) Brown Sugar Toffee I believe it was and it was good! LOL. The place is nice with indoor and outdoor areas to sit but I had to get going.... Staff was friendly and I saw they sell home made empanadas there as well....no Vegan ones or I would go back possibly and try it .... Definitely will come here next time I'm nearby! read more

This cafe is among a series of suites. You'll likely miss it while driving and even more so when walking right by it. The people working here are so inviting. I appreciate that positively charged vibe! We visited this joint a couple years ago on our way passing through and picked up a Nutty Hawaiian. It was very smooth and the espresso was clean. Upon our return, I gave their seasonal drink, the Shamrock Latte a try. It was exquisite and flavorful. My wife got their Decaf Vanilla Iced Latte and she liked it. We've tried Honu a handful of times since we moved to the SCV a few years ago. We're not anti-the big chain coffee places, but happy to support a local spot if the product is good. Re the good, the donuts are fantastic. They definiitely live up to the claim of at least among the best donut over. Nothing crazy like you might find at Voodoo, just super good donuts on a variety of basic flavors. They put to shame any other nearby chain donut. The coffee, however, has been hit or miss for us. The first time we ordered the Nutty Hawaiian it was great, strong coffee presence with the Hawaiian flavors creating a unique, bold and tasty coffee experience. The second time we ordered it, the coffee felt absent and it tasted like warmed milk and sugar. Bummer! Especially after loving it so much the first time. Okay, maybe they had an off day...we waited a while, came back several months later to cap off a Farmer's Market experience and ordered it again. Donut -- on point, but same disappointing Nutty Hawaiian. My wife even specified to make sure the coffee presence was strong in the drink, which was responded to with sort of a non-committal "okay." Same result...warmed milk and sugar, no coffee flavor, and not really any discernable elements of the Nutty Hawaiian flavors of one of their "signature drink". So now I'm thinking that's the norm and not the amazing one we first had. A coffee-forward coffee shop should have excellent coffee. Unfortunately, that hasn't been our experience. We'd definitely come back for more donuts, though. read more

This place is absolutely horrible. The tall blonde girl that works there has no customer service skills. She was clearly having a bad day. Regardless she's at work and you don't make a customer feel uncomfortable because you're having a bad day, that is a terrible way to conduct business. I ordered through the app and after 10 minutes I was notified that the store didn't pick up the order. I went up to the counter and explained my situation to her. She simply said "oh yeah, we're not taking any mobile orders at this time". It wasn't my fault that they knowingly knew the app was allowing customers to submit orders but they weren't taking any.There was no signs to let customers know that any orders that would be placed wouldn't be fulfilled. I asked her for a solution seeing as though the line was long and she offered nothing other than telling me that there would be a refund provided through the application. I didn't care about the refund. I had been waiting 10 minutes at the store and the line was incredibly long the whole time I was there. She basically wanted me to wait in line again to place an order for a drink. She clearly didn't wanna help me. She didn't even feel sorry she could care less. She barely even wanted to look at me so I asked to speak to somebody else. The gentleman who is in charge was kind enough to offer a solution and provided me a free drink after I asked to speak to somebody else. The whole team should be trained in customer service because that was unacceptable. Dealing with a situation like that and not providing a customer, a paying customer a solution nor trying to is beyond me. Aside from that the coffee was simply just milk. I will definitely not be returning because I did not like the way that I was treated here. absolutely There's better coffee up the street at Henry's and better customer service as well. and any excuse that the coffee shop offers as far as them not being in control the third party application is absolutely ridiculous because you can always call customer service and figure out a way to close down the ordering system so customers aren't submitting orders that aren't gonna be fulfilled.
