Charming little spot for açaí bowls, sandwiches, smoothies and more! It's at a good location near a bunch of Hilo hotels, and the staff is super friendly and helpful with recommendations. The açaí bowls + toppings are super fresh and large portioned. Definitely would recommend sharing 1 bowl per two people. read more

Another great place for acai bowls! This place has a chill island vibe and the story behind the couple who own it is interesting. We read all about them in a local newspaper article framed on the wall. I got the regular acai bowl and it was huge! Several scoops of acai accompanied by pineapple, strawberry, bananas, coconut flakes and of course granola. They also drizzled it with honey which I am not a big fan of, but nevertheless this acai bowl was excellent. With that being said, the bowl was like $12 and that is the priciest acai bowl I have encountered. I'm sure there are other places to get acai bowls in Hilo that would be cheaper but I'm not sure if the quality would match this place. They also serve sandwiches and smoothies--lots of good healthy items. If I'm ever back in Hilo, I would definitely return. read more

I thought this would be a fun touristy experience and I was right, however the Unicup (Unicone but in cup, which is Ube and Dragonfruit swirl with sprinkles) was also SO DELICIOUS. I genuinely wasn't expecting this to be THAT tasty. Imagine a creamy vanilla soft serve but with this amazing unique flavor, and that's the Ube. Then the dragonfruit is this slightly tart but sweet flavor that perfectly compliments the Ube. The sprinkles on top add a perfect bit of crunch and some extra vanilla/yogurty flavor. My order: Unicorn ( ube& dragon fruit) in a pineapple bowl (+$3) with popping boba (+$1): VERY delicious combo. You get the sweetness from the ube and the tanginess from the dragon fruit to create a nice sweet and tangy blend. The popping boba was a nice addition, with every bite a burst of juice pops into your mouth. Popping boba is a thin, soft and squishy-shelled sphere that is filled with juice that bursts into your mouth when you sink your teeth into it. The pineapple bowl is a frozen pineapple and it's nothing too special besides it looking really pretty. All the juice has escaped from the fruit, so there's only a subtle sweetness to it. I could have lived without it, but it was definitely very pretty for the pictures. read more

I'm a sucker for cereal, so when I saw 2 fruity pebble "patties" with ice cream in between, I just had to have it! The patties are actually really thick so I couldn't even fit my mouth over the whole ice cream sandwich to take a bite. Which is a good thing! The size made up for the price ($7). As for the ice cream, I was torn between mango and lychee, and the worker at register told me I could get half-half. Woohoo! Both flavors complimented the fruity pebbles well. You can choose two toppings too. I went for sprinkles and coconut shreds. Highly recommend for those with a sweet tooth. I also got to try my hubbie's açaí bowl with was refreshing. read more

Cool spot for a refresher in the area. Wanted to walk around, but I'm sure covid did some damage to the local businesses since many many doors were closed :( went to Rainbow Falls prior then stopped here to try something new. It is on the pricey side, but def photo worthy with all the vibrant colors. Tastes great too, enough to cool off on a hot day. read more

YA'LL my mom and I decided to split some delicious things and this is what we got: a #17 Strawberry Acai bowl, and it was paired with amazing fresh banana and granola. Then I ordered a Dragonfruit softserve in a mini pineapple, topped with coconut and kiwi. SO GOOD. The aesthetic of the place was amazing, staff was friendly and worked quickly to gather everyones orders, even with a long line out the door, etc. The COVID precautions were great, with minimal seating for inside. I can't recommend this place enough. The little touches and story of how this shack came to be is so inspiring. read more

I found this place by accident. We had just driven from Kona and I needed a bio break. This place had street parking as well as a small open lot next to the building. We got lucky and found the spot right in front. I ended up purchasing a small Hawaiian Heaven, which has Mango, Pineapple, Banana, with sweet coconut milk. Oh my! The name matches the drink -- Heaven! That's what it tastes like. It is sooo delicious! It wasn't too sweet. It was perfect! The staff were friendly and attentive. They did have a decent bathroom in the back, which made me happy. I love the bright decor. When I do go back to Hilo, this will be a must-stop for me! They have a variety of acaì bowls too. I was drawn to this place because they had colourful signs all over Hilo that had photos of giant vegetable stuffed sandwiches and strange coloured ice cream. So, because I like vegetables and ice cream, we came here for lunch. We ordered their BLT (minus the bacon) to split. It was delicious. Then, because I couldn't help myself, I ordered the ice cream that was blue. There's nothing special about this ice cream. It's literally cookies and cream ice cream with cookie dough (probably the most unhealthy ice cream you can get)... with blue food colouring. But why does it have to taste so good?!??!?! And why did I like it so much more because it was blue? I don't understand myself sometimes. Actually what you should do (and what I should have done) was get the purple ice cream because that's actually made from purple potatoes. Much better idea. Anyway, I also got a scoop of lychee ice cream. This was really good, but I got a massive frozen spot in it which was hard to eat, so that was sad. Overall, they offer some really wacky and delicious things. Some healthy, some not so healthy. It's a fun place to visit and a great place for lunch or dessert. read more

Cute little shop located in hilo A few metered stalls right in front Acai bowl was a little pricey but not bad since two of us were sharing. It was enough for two people to share. I would've definitely been too much if I were eating it alone. Acai bowl could be placed into a pineapple for $4 extra but they did warn us that it does get a little messy. For $1 more we could also add a scoop of ube ice cream on top of our Acai bowl. A good selection of tropical smoothies on the menu as well as freshly made juices. For one Acai bowl and two large smoothies our total came out to $32. read more

Young lady at front counter was friendly. I ordered a large Aloha Açaí Bowl after seeing someone pick up theres and it was stacked with toppings. When I got out the bathroom, I came out and saw this rinky-dink who made the order and asked if it was mine. The snarly looking guy who made my order had an attitude and said rude tone "yeah its your order." There was barely any açai or toppings. I instantly regret, putting the five dollars tip when I made the order. I do not recommend this place because it is inconsistent. read more

Was really surprised about the food here. The açaí bowls tasted amazing but I would recommend getting it for two. The Avolastic sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I ever had and the chips tasted great. The coffee was average but it's not a coffee place so I won't take a star away. Such a cute place in Hilo! Only downfall is location. Hard to find parking close by and when you park far, you pass a few sketchy ally ways. Overall, I think this was great. We chose Cookie Monster and it was sooo sweet! Would recommend it for the peanut butter and cookie batter with small cookies. But it was so hard to eat after the first couple of bites. Definitely a unique experience but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a real sweet tooth!! read more

Street parking, pretty decor, big portions. $12 for the biggest acai bowl I've ever had and enough to feed 2 comfortably, the Kirkland wildflower honey they drizzle over it is delicious, the granola they layer in it is filling, and my only complaint is I wish they gave more fruit. Side note: they do not give samples of their soft serve (dragonfruit/ube) as it breaks down their soft serve machine faster). Would I go back? Yes, but only if I had a partner to go with, cannot finish the acai bowl alone. read more

Found this place completely by accident but glad I did as I needed a snack after a long drive from Hualalai and exploring the island. I yelped it and saw that I was going to need a unicone no matter what happened. They have TONS of açaí bowl options - like 15 or something. More than I've ever seen anywhere and most of them are decadent as can be - with cookie dough and lots of other items but there are standard bowls and healthy options with spinach, matcha and kiwi for a more discerning visit. They have scooped and soft serve ice cream options and sandwiches as well. I chose a BLT with fried egg at the recommendation of the gal behind the counter and it was delicious and HUGE - served with the purple yam chips popular on the island. Of course I got a unicone - it was swirled soft serve of ube (purple yam) and dragonfruit (pink) with rainbow star sprinkles on a cone. So cute. The swirl of the two flavors didn't work for me as the dragonfruit was tart and the ube was more sweet and nutty but I enjoyed it. I'd love to come back - their iced coffee drinks were stellar - I had a nutty vanilla favorite I forget the name of - their açaí sounded and looked delicious - and that ube ice cream was tops! Great vibes, friendly staff, local gem! I made a new friend who was also eating solo and we sat together and enjoyed our meals while he gave me tips on the island and insider info. read more

What a cute little spot! There isn't a parking lot, only street parking. During the busier times, you may have to drive around a little bit to find parking. Super touristy spot but fun for all the Instagrammable opportunities. They definitely take advantage of that by all the cute decor on the walls and their extravagantly-made smoothies/bowls. We stopped by for a quick snack.The girl working the register and making the bowls was super nice and cheerful on this dreary rainy day which made our day a little brighter. If you're not too hungry, I recommend sharing a bowl. We ordered a Gorilla bowl...and it looked exactly as it did in the picture on the wall. I love how they don't skimp on the toppings. It was delicious! The combination of acai and peanut butter was surprisingly good. You can also order these bowls in a hollowed-out pineapple, if you're really pressed for a picture-perfect Instagram post. Overall, it's exactly what it is...yummy, instagrammable smoothie bowls. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. When you're paying $20 for an açaí bowl you're obviously going to have some expectations and I was so underwhelmed.. we ordered the large aloha açaí bowl and we got flavorless soft serve açaí, which was hollow in the middle and was topped with FROZEN fruit. I was honestly shocked at the presentation because I've seen this place produce some amazing stuff but wow has the quality of the food they're putting out dropped exponentially. read more

I should have paid attention to the name "Aloha bowl" must be hawaiian style. This acai place is def not Brazilian style. Not the real thing at all. The acai mix was away too sweet. Do not recommend this place. Complete incompetence. I ordered two large açaí bowls and the guy told me it would be about 10 min. After 12 min and watching them serve several others, I asked what was going on. They told me they couldn't even make one and offered something else. I didn't have the time, they made me late, and charged me for one small and it wasn't even full. Didn't even seem to think there was anything wrong. If you want someone to respect your time, communicate with you, or give you the food you order and pay for, don't visit this place. read more

The smoothie was thick and had a nice texture to it where you could still taste the pulp of the pineapple that was blended in. I don't think much -- if any, additional sugar was mixed in, because the smoothie wasn't especially sweet. If you're on vacation and haven't been eating particularly healthy, nor getting enough fiber in your diet, it's a good idea to give your system a boost with one of these smoothies. Smoothies here are priced in line with your average smoothie -- at around $13 or so. If you're looking for something else besides a smoothie, the menu here includes non-smoothie items as well, like juices, açai bowls, and various protein bites.

The pumpkin soup with roasted pumpkin seed garnish was delicious, and inspired me to make my own kabocha stew at home. The food is tasty. The cleanliness could use some improvement especially given the prices. All that being said, it is a popular spot. The parking lot was full. The employees looked busy. Just be forewarned that service levels & cleanliness may fluctuate.

As a disclaimer, I'm not the biggest fan of shaved ice because of how sweet the dessert tends to be, and because more often than not, there are a bunch of artificial colors used in the fruit juices. When we looked at the menu, I was impressed and excited to see the emphasis on quality of their ingredients: no artificial flavors or colors, no aspartame, no high fructose corn syrup, and no preservatives. I was sold. Although we were tempted to create our own shaved ice, we ultimately went with "The Local", a soursop and liliko'i combo topped with haupia cream. Between the two flavors, I enjoyed the sour sop side a bit more since it was the one that was less sweet. The cream on top was absolutely delicious, and reminded me of the light and airy frothed milk cream you find on many boba drinks these days. There's a generous amount ladled on top, ensuring you can have some in every bite without having to carefully ration out the cream. Overall, I'm a fan of Kula Shave Ice. Definitely a great dessert to enjoy on a hot day. Worth checking out if you're ever in Hilo.

We went on a Saturday afternoon after visiting the Hilo Saturday Market. We ordered the Kula Rainbow $12. 10/10 It was delicious. There are public restrooms next door and there is free parking nearby about one block south off on Ponahawai St and Punahoa St. You can also look for street parking. I would definitely return.

I like coconut and pineapple mixes but most places lean on the safety in bananas, strawberries etc. which you can definitely get here, but I'm stoked they try for more tropical flavors. I mean with mango and guava I'm in heaven. I'm always buying bottled aloe vera drinks in stores, I love the actual aloe chunks. This is obviously way better and healthier even if the aloe is blended into the smoothie so you don't even notice it. Safe & inviting for the timid folks I know. Yum yum yum. Please try & support small businesses! Find them in the Tokunaga parking lot. Hopefully they drive all over the island someday and spread the love.

When a store is the only game in town for goods near a tourist entry point, one would expect/accept…read morehigh prices. Instead, Keaukaha General Store (within easy walking distance of the Port of Hilo) provided a great selection of sundries, some souvenirs of Hilo, and a small menu of Hawaiian favorite dishes at prices that were the lowest I've seen in Hawaii. My wife and I came here twice: first while walking into town, when we picked up souvenirs and an unexpected loco moco plate. It was a lot less crowded then, with us being the only ones there...allowing us to have a completely different experience. When we came back as we headed back towards the ship, other cruisers from the ship had discovered this place, and were stocking up on various things. It's a large modern space inside, with things organized displayed very neatly. There was no sense I needed to check for expiration dates. There was a portable ATM machine right by the door. A decent selection of alcohol at good prices were displayed (e.g. $8.81 for a bottle of Barefoot Cab or $18.99 for a 12 pack of Budweiser). I took the opportunity to get something I've not seen elsewhere: a bag of dried clams (aka Asari) for $4.19. Ended up finishing it that night...was really good. It has an all day menu, and was able to order a Loco Moco for breakfast. The all beef patty was very thick and dense, definitely from a frozen patty...good for Salisbury steak or Loco Moco, but wouldn't be great for a burger. The brown gravy was served hot and hadn't congealed, and the 1 egg had been cooked over easy, just as requested. It was obviously freshly made. It was packed to-go, with condiments and utensils available near the registers. There wasn't much space to eat inside, but because it wasn't too busy, found a space to sit in the back. I scarfed it down (probably too fast) while my wife finished her shopping. Also in the back, there are gourmet coffee machines and a chest freeze full of hand scoopable ice cream. There is a Pepsi self serve soda machine, along with various sizes of chips. My wife initially bought a couple of t-shirts as requested souvenirs for our travel mates ($25 a piece), and bought another one as we were heading back. On the 1st trip, she also liked a perfume body mist...the tester was the last one so the attendant sold it for half price ($14). For us, she bought a Hilo waterproof sticker for $2.75. And her favorite part of the store was the small portable Pokémon card machine, that dispensed random Japanese Pokémon cards for a quarter. She kept changing out dollars for quarters and ended up getting $5.75 of them...and a couple of them were hollos that we like. They do charge a 3.25% credit card fee, so cash is preferred when possible.
