I have only been in Spain for two weeks at this point, and I was really needing some sort of American type food to transition me over to the Spanish style dishes of tapas, so I came here, and I was not disappointed! This place is great! Service was very quick, very great location, essentially right in the heart of Barceloneta, very cute interior of the restaurant where people can put wooden spoons on the wall thay they have written on of where they are from, etc., but there is also charming outdoor seating. Walking towards the beach and stumbled upon this gem. We had read that this place was recommended but has no real intention of looking for food or drink, but are glad we found it. I had the black mamba cocktail and my partner tried both the mule and mojito. Most delicious cocktails we've had since coming to Barcelona. We shared the playboy salad as I don't eat meat - it was delicious. We will be coming back for my partner to try a burger. This is a decent beach side restaurant if you're in the mood for a hamburger and beer at the Port Vell area. Don't expect the quality and quantity to exceed what you may be use to in the states but if you've already had your fill of tapas and paella in Barcelona then this place is a nice place. I would give this place a 3.5 stars if I could. Finding this place was easy, however finding the host booth wasn't. There's a host stand outside of the restaurant and if you see a line, then that's the one. There are seating available inside the restaurant, in the shade, or in the sun. The service wasn't the fastest but given it was a holiday and it was busy, I totally understand. What to order: Drinks: Sangria - really refreshing but expensive for just 1 cup (€6.70) Topless burger(€6.90) + bacon(€.70) thick slice of patty meat with onions, tomato, lettuce and gruyere. Buns were toasted nicely and the meat was juicy however I didn't taste the "gruyere" at all. The Dude burger(€10.90) with thick slice of patty, mushroom, roasted tomato, lettuce, walnut and goat cheese sauce. For another €3 more then the Topless burger, I'd say it wasn't really worth it. It was great, but I didn't taste the "walnut & goat cheese sauce." The garlic parmesan fries were the star today. It's a generous portion for two people and they were not shy with the Parmesan! Best burgers and drinks you can get in Barcelona. If your tired of paella with no spice or no solid flavors this burger place has a great hot sauce that you can get on the side that isn't to hot but it will bring you back to what seasoning and flavors taste like. The sauce is a 10/10 recommend getting the super hot and the less hot so you can figure out getting which ever one you like better on your food. There drink menu is a 12/10 absolutely great options. Location is good with great outdoor seating! It definitely gets packed but there's plenty of seating outside so you're bound to get something eventually. The staff was very friendly but not attentive and very slow. I guess it's just very busy but it took forever to get menus, to order, and to get our check. Be prepared for a long stay! The menu has a mix of burger options - chicken, beef, and veggie. They can also swap out the meat for different burgers (if you like toppings for a beef burger but want chicken or veggie, you can change it up!) so that was nice. We ordered the hummus trio as a starter, which was okay. I had a veggie burger and didn't find it that good. I've definitely had better and more flavorful veggie burgers before. I was lucky enough to get to attend the opening party of Makamaka... and they threw a hell of a beach party. The fries! I loved the fries! served with a tangy cross between a bbq sauce and a cocktail sauce - just the right amount of salt... i was almost stalking the servers with the trays of fries. I would go there just for the fries. But that's not all we sampled... for the party, they had these little burger sliders and i was told they had chicken sliders as well. Deeee-lish! The staff was friendly, the place was casual, the outdoor area is nicely decorated... I'll definitely return and write an update. An interesting quirk in the restaurant were the bathrooms, which are located in a shed. There is plenty of seating - either on long uncovered picnic-style benches outside, smaller tables under cover on their terrace, or inside the restaurant. Good for small groups and kids. Makamaka is all hype, no good food. I will say I enjoy seeing the wooden forks, knives and spoons that you can write on and tack on to the wall for generations to come! We are from San Francisco so we wrote on a spoon and are hoping that it stays there for many years! I asked for a chicken sandwich while my guy had the Makamaka burger. He was thrilled with his burger, but my sandwich was a chicken THIGH. Gross!! I asked the waitress who was nice, but stressed, if they had chicken breast. She didn't understand me. She brought over the manager guy who spoke better English and he said to her "she doesn't want this (and pointed to her thigh), she wants this (and pointed to her boob!).
