I didn't appreciate Major Market as much as I do now. I've known this store for as long as I could remember; I am a Fallbrook native and my mom would always take us here. As a kid I didn't like going here because I didn't think it was as "nice" as Lucky's (aka Albertson's)...how wrong I was!!! Major Market is so much better than Albertsons by a long shot. The produce is better, the hot food is better, and they have a lot of niche/local baked goods that you can't find in most mainstream grocery stores. Not only that but the prices are not too bad, especially for an independent grocery. Unfortunately the last time I visited here, I didn't see that many people. My mom told me that less people have been shopping here and are opting for the Grocery Outlet down the street. As much as I love Grocery Outlet, that makes me sad. Honestly if I lived in Fallbrook, I'd try to come to Major Market more! Love this place! read more

The store seems very clean and organized. Hadn't shopped there in years but had business in Fallbrook. I bought 6 fried chicken legs that were fresh. I didn't realize the kid put them in a plastic bag and then into another bag that fried chicken usually comes in like at Albertsons (they have great, crispy fried chicken). I finished my shopping and a nice kid helped me with my groceries to the car. I hadn't eaten since yesterday and I opened the bag of chicken and it was completely soggy! Disgusting. I couldn't even pick it up without it sliding from my fingers. I removed the plastic bag but it was too gross to eat. I went back into the store to ask for chicken this time that is NOT in a plastic bag. Not to mention hot plastic is full of chemicals! I spoke to the manager and she confirmed they put fried chicken in a plastic bag! Why?? Exactly who does that? I returned to the chicken stand with permission from the manager and asked the gal to give me replacement chicken (per Monica, store manager-I think that was her name) and the employee started rolling her eyes at the other employee. Shame on you, ma'am....do you treat everyone with disrespect? Very reluctant to help me. Absolutely no empathy, kindness or compassion or understanding of what happened. Was more interested in eye rolling with her compadre. While I was waiting, all of a sudden the chicken just dropped out of the bottom of the bag all over the floor! So it's no wonder they put the chicken in a plastic bag inside the actual chicken bag! THE BAG IS TOO FLIMSY AND CHEAP TO HOLD FRIED CHICKEN! GET SOME GOOD BAGS!!! After seeing this completely ridiculous attitude I asked they put the replacement chicken in one of the cardboard containers behind the case. Got more attitude. Then she started doing the price tag. I explained I had already spoken to the manager and it was an even exchange. Again, attitude like I was a real pain in the a$$. What the hell is wrong with people who act like I'm the problem!?!!' I have been in the service industry my entire life and NEVER have I treated anyone (even a legitimate pain in the a$$) like I was treated today. I even apologized for the chicken falling on the floor. I was mortified. Another manager (older guy) was in the isle pretending not to hear the issue and he didn't make an effort to help. So I asked him if anyone had complained about this. Nope! I was the only one....EVER! Here's my question; who eats soggy fried chicken? Not Col. Sanders! Nobody like soggy fried chicken. I ate one piece of the new chicken and it lacked flavor. Threw the rest out. It's hard to find good help that treat the customer with kindness. Kindess doesn't cost anything...but it makes you feel good when you are nice to people. So sorry I shopped there today and bothered you ladies who graced everyone with your presence today. I went to return an unopened item with a receipt and the manager, a gray hair woman declined because of supposedly store policy. Every time I've seen her since I can remember she always carries a bitter and sad face. And I had the displeasure of now interacting with her.yikes! I've returned items at other local stores like Albertsons and North Gate without a problem and without receipt as well. Its only $10 dollars and they made a big deal out of it. The grocery store is alright. Quite expensive so better off going to Vons to do"major" shopping...can't do that here at "Major Market". This is where you come when you want last minute things you forgot to but. Just don't let it be a very unique item. BUT what we did come here for is the beef! Used to go to the Major Market near Ammunition Road and loved the fresh breads they made daily. Their jalapeño cheddar sourdough was truly amazing as was the olive loaf. We don't live in the area but made a special trip just to get some bread. Was so disappointed in the variety and ended up leaving with only a sourdough. Its is good but nothing like the old Major Market we used to go to. read more

Great market. They have been doing some updates lately. Easy to find items, good signage. Cashier and bag people are very nice and friendly.

This was one of our favorite groceries for years but lately the quality of their produce has been pretty bad. There is a lot of rotten fruit in the produce section and they do not bother to remove the rotten items. We purchased bags of salad mix from them and many are already brown and rotten. We have purchased cheese from them and the cheese is already moldy even though it was not expired. I think a lot of the produce and other perishable items are left too long without proper refrigeration before they are put out for sale. It seems like every time we shop there we end up with something either moldy or rotten. read more

I didn't want to write this review but due to no response to an email I sent them 2 weeks ago, I feel compelled to post this. I get their deli sandwiches from time to time and the last time I got their club sandwich I pulled out a wad of hair from the ham layer. I was so disgusted I couldn't eat the rest of it which was a shame because I was at work and didn't have time to get anything else. I emailed them about this because I didn't want to put them on blast on yelp but because they didn't respond after two weeks, here I am. We just got a huge attitude for bringing back a rotten pie! We purchased a Julian Pie from Major Market! We looked at the date on the pie and decided to save it for Thanksgiving which was well within the date on the box. We decided not to open the box until we were ready to eat dessert. After my husband opened the box, I looked inside to the box to get ready to cut the pieces for friends and family. We were all excited for dessert and as I prepared the whip cream, I looked inside the box to find mold on the top of our pie. The filling looked burnt, and the crust looked disgusting. The filling was overdone. This was the second rotten pie we bought at Major Market recently both (Julian Pies). My husband took it back this morning and the Clerk had the nerve to give my husband a hard time and make insinuations that somehow, we caused this to happen. Major market is responsible for the rotten pies they are selling! NOT US! My husband did not want me to call her to tell her that our Thanksgiving dessert was destroyed by them an apology would have been appropriate. She blamed us then eventually after a lashing gave us our money back. The Pie was untouched due to white mold spurs on top. This was the Fallbrook location. The owner should be notified immediately. read more

My favorite thing about this place is the fact that there is a public restroom available to use unlike most of the other places in town.

I really enjoy shopping at Major Market. Although they're located in heavily populated areas, you can usually get your shopping done without an insane wait in line or over-crowded aisles. The customer service here is immaculate and probably one of the major reasons we shop here. We are always greeted with smiling faces from everyone and whether it's the cashier, the stock-boy or the manager, we are always asked if we find everything okay and that makes all the difference sometimes. The aisles are organized well and finding what you want is always a breeze and because it's spacious, you're hardly ever in a position where you have to squeeze passed others. The freshness of their produce is on-point and their meat & food deli is spectacular! They're so many varieties of prepared foods to choose from. Overall, I'm really glad Major Market is doing well and thriving in our economy and in the community and if you live near one, I suggest shopping here. read more

I order a fruit cake from major market a week go for pick up today , the pick up time was at 3pm and when we arrived they said to wait 30 more minutes, we waited 30 minutes when we went back they said to wait another 30 minutes and then 20 minutes after that and they are barely (4:40) putting the cake in the box , they didn't offer a refund or an apology NOTING we waited for almost 2 hours for the cake , ridiculous. read more

Whenever I visit Major Market in Fallbrook, I'm pleasantly surprised at how good their prices are. Today I was looking for a product called Immunity Shot and Wellness Vitamins. I looked online for price comparison and found MM cheaper than Amazon! Their produce is also excellent and today I bought tge best Brussels spouts I've seen fir .99/lb. They offer a large variety of organic and local fruits and vegetables and their regular employee 'Lalo' takes great pride in restocking and is very knowledgeable. The manager is also always very friendly and helpful. Last but not keast, their floral depth is stocked with beautiful plants and flowers. The produce department is my favorite and prices therein are very fair. I usually shop around the perimeter of the store which is probably a good thing because some of the prices on some of the items can be a little steep which negates any of the good deals. As an out of towner, however, I can say that I was pleased as pickles to find a local grocery store to support, and I really dug what they had going on. It's not just the same old selection of stuff. They actually have a wide variety of items for your shopping pleasure. It may not be as deep, and certainly not as deeply discounted, but it did the trick. Major market is one of those nondescript gems. From first glance you'd think it was just a country bumpkin grocer with a bunch of poor quality products. However, when it comes to providing a variety of choices, it is truly outstanding. When my wife and I moved to Fallbrook over three years ago a friend of mine told us he preferred shopping at Major Market, but he didn't say why. I was hesitant because the exterior isn't anything super inviting, but I decided to take his advice and go shopping there. Almost immediately I noticed there is a plethora of items ranging from your ordinary every day mainstay items, to extraordinary artisan products. My wife and I appreciate being able to find wholesome and healthy options that taste good. Organic fruits and vegetables, gluten free artisan breads, great baked goods, an extraordinary meat and deli section, all kinds of prepared foods, and practically every kind of drink imaginable, including several kombucha options. Heck, they even provide disinfectant wipes outside the front doors. Over the years we have really gotten to know the merchandising of this store and where to find the top quality products and organic choices. Sometimes you have to look a little or ask someone, but I can almost guarantee Major Market will have whatever you're looking for. Also, over the past few years I have noticed many of the same employees working there, and they are always very friendly. This tells me they enjoy working for Major Market and the folks in charge. This is important to me, as I like to support companies who take care of their employees and are good Stewart's of our community. Management is rude, rude, rude and I have gotten sick several times on their meat, one time being this morning. They are very expensive and the market always smells bad. Their deli salads are mediocre and their sliced meats are super expensive. If you want to buy freshly sliced meats it's hard to get it sliced the way you want because the people behind the counter are always in a rush and they don't understand what sliced "thin" means. The deli meats also go bad very quickly. You would have to eat it within 24 hours. A positive for the deli is that they make very good sandwiches at a reasonable price. It IS the best place in town to get a freshly made sandwich. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because I do like one thing about Major Market and that is the fact that they stock items that you can't normally get at a regular grocery chain. Several times I have been able to pick up things here that I couldn't find anywhere else in town such as demi glace, longhorn cheese, veal shanks, specialty breads and ethnic specialty items. One thing is for sure, I will NEVER buy their meat again. They say their ground round and ground sirloin is freshly ground but if I make a medium rare burger with their meat (and fail to cook it until it is dry as a bone) I am sick for at least half the next day. I don't think they are using fresh meat to grind and I also think they are not using the proper safe handling of meats. From now on I will go to Albertson's where they will grind any meat you choose such as London broil, round or sirloin steak. Sometimes it is much cheaper that way. read more

This local grocery has terrific homemade salads, fresh and tasty. Once I happened to be shopping at Albertson's and picked up salads and found them to be significantly inferior to Major's. Worst check cashing policy. Unless the business you work for is on their list they will not cash your check. Even a payroll check issued by ADP. There is only one employee that works there allowed to make an exception/add a company. When I tried to ask the employee why they wouldn't accept a payroll check issued by the biggest payroll company in the US (in fact the same payroll company they use) she began shouting at me about policy. read more

I've always been a fan of Major market. I don't live in Fallbrook "proper" and sometimes I chose closer local grocers for quick items but after today's visit I will never shop anywhere else for my meat needs. After going to two different grocery stores (one near and another in Fallbrook) I was unable to find what I was looking for. Since I was already in Fallbrook I decided to call up Major Market's meat department. I spoke to a young man who fielded my question and he immediately passed me off (not a bad thing) to a more experienced employee who's name is Julio. Julio confirmed they did in-fact carry what I was looking for and after thanking him I made my way to Major Market. Upon my arrival to Major Market's meat department I was greeting and asked how they could help me. I stated that I had called about my specific item and the gentleman stocking product (Julio) immediately greeted me and took me to what I was looking for. Julio made it a point to ensure I was taken care of and was more than happy to answer a couple follow on questions I had about their USDA PRIME beef selections. With what food costs are these days and you want to maximize your buying power for high quality products and even higher quality customer service you need to get to Major Market and say hello to Julio! read more

We normally love Major Market and the great people who own it. I must give them a 1 star rating though based on the red head in the meat service department. She gave us the worst service ever and was very rude and insulting to us. The other butchers have been among the best though always helpful with how to best cook the products and selection of what we should purchase. We brought this to the attention of the store manager who seemed to care less about how we were treated discounting us further as a customer. We want to be supportive of our local store because they do so many things for the community they service. We know the owners but we do not wanted to bring the business of the store up in our personal relationship. We use to exclusively shop at Major with a bill that averaged 1500.00-2000.00 per month in grocery purchases. We have a large family and entertain frequently so we were always in the store. We have been going to Trader Joe's now more and more along with Fresh and Easy to fill the void. Costco as well. Our purchases at Major have dropped to less than 150.00 per month. We no longer feel appreciated or comfortable shopping at Major due to these folks that damaged our perception of the store. We wont go into the comments that the red head in the meat department made to us and how we were treated. The other butchers seem to try to go out of their way to help us now at our few and infrequent visits. They were shocked at her behavior as well and commented that she feels she can get away with it now on a more than regular basis. We love the owners and the quality of the store and yes unfortunately two bad apples have spoiled it for us. We may give the Escondido location a chance as they are near a Trader Joe's we frequent for even meat now. read more
