Management is rude, rude, rude and I have gotten sick several times on their meat, one time being this morning. They are very expensive and the market always smells bad. Their deli salads are mediocre and their sliced meats are super expensive. If you want to buy freshly sliced meats it's hard to get it sliced the way you want because the people behind the counter are always in a rush and they don't understand what sliced "thin" means. The deli meats also go bad very quickly. You would have to eat it within 24 hours. A positive for the deli is that they make very good sandwiches at a reasonable price. It IS the best place in town to get a freshly made sandwich. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because I do like one thing about Major Market and that is the fact that they stock items that you can't normally get at a regular grocery chain. Several times I have been able to pick up things here that I couldn't find anywhere else in town such as demi glace, longhorn cheese, veal shanks, specialty breads and ethnic specialty items. One thing is for sure, I will NEVER buy their meat again. They say their ground round and ground sirloin is freshly ground but if I make a medium rare burger with their meat (and fail to cook it until it is dry as a bone) I am sick for at least half the next day. I don't think they are using fresh meat to grind and I also think they are not using the proper safe handling of meats. From now on I will go to Albertson's where they will grind any meat you choose such as London broil, round or sirloin steak. Sometimes it is much cheaper that way. read more

This is one of those "has always been around" kind of places. Very outdated from the outside, but has great stuff on the inside. I work right next door so I come in often, and the staff is always very friendly. They have a good selection of items, but the store is about half or 1/3 of the size of Albertson's up the street. What I do like about Major Market is that they have a great selection of fresh meats and fish. Whenever I make Carne Asada, I get it form here, it's great. They also have awesome overseas candies and chocolates. I always get my Kinder Bueno here it reminds me of home :). They often have sales or items are marked down to compete with Albertson's, so they have pretty good deals. It used to be more expensive but they are realizing they have to compete now seeing as a Fresh and Easy opened up a block or two down. I like to give Major Market my business because it is one of those local places you see people you know at, and I can't get enough of my favorite chocolate. read more

Major Market's a great place. It has the feeling of a small-town grocery store (you know, they greet the regulars by name and local high school kids make up a large part of the staff) but has the stock of a much larger store. I've found imported candy and treats - especially around the holidays - and lots of specialty items from local businesses. They sell locally grown vegetables and wine made right here in Fallbrook, for instance. And I don't even know what to say about their ready-made items - they offer tons of salads, sushi (my favorite!), and full dinners for one or two people, like meatloaf and mashed potatoes, chicken cordon bleu and baby vegetables, and macaroni and cheese. Their fresh Mexican food is great, too - enchiladas (beef and/or chicken, red and green sauce), rice, beans, tamales, burritos... Everything is so good, just the way you'd make at home (if you're not a complete klutz in the kitchen like me - why do you think I buy so many ready-made products?). The produce is fresh, it's not difficult to find even specialty items, and everyone on staff is friendly and helpful. Oh, and they have a great floral department. We've actually taken our own balloons in to be filled with helium for New Year's celebrations and you can't beat the price. And their flowers and arrangements are gorgeous. read more

I set out today to figure out why someone should go to this store instead of the Albertsons down the street and the only reason I could find was the nostalgia. Theres a reason that the place is not crowded. The prices here are about 10-25% higher and although the people there are nice, your pocket is the bottom line. The produce, while local and very fresh, is much more expensive and frequently bruised. I really want to consider this store my go-to, "local" store but it's just a little too pricey and I don't get superior products. I gave them 4 stars for having a friendly atmosphere but can't give them 5 because their prices just can't compete. read more

There 2 aisles in the store that are my absolute favorite! The gift aisle and the seasonal (decoration)-in the same aisle as the fresh coffee beans...love, love, love the variety of cute little gifts. I really just go there just for those 2 aisles every few weeks or months just to see what they have! Love their Cali-club sandwich here and what makes it, is the Pepperhouse Gourmaise spread (we bought a bottle of it) and the price is reasonable for this sandwich on a sub roll plus it's a big enough to split. As for everything else here, we don't shop here unless it's for items we need when they are on sale. Their prices are much more expensive; I just don't get seeing people shop here for basic items that you can get for $$$ less elsewhere. Plus agree with some other reviews about the 'employees having an attitude' ... have noticed this in the butcher/seafood section especially. read more

The customer service here is great! The parking lot is huge so finding parking is never a problem. 9 times out of 10 I always find what I'm looking for at a reasonable price. Only complaint would be that twice I've been here where they ran out of the meat I was looking to buy. read more

This used to be the best grocery store in Fallbrook but has slipped over the years. They offer a decent selection of groceries but you should expect to pay more than expected. Thank God there are several other stores in town. We usually have to shop at several of them every week in order to save money. We eat organically and they have a decent selection available. You have to be careful when choosing their fruit. Lots of times it will be rotten. They do have good steaks and the butchers are very helpful. I'd give the store a higher rating, but the prices need to come down. read more

My overall experience here has been great. But today my experience was rather negative. The 2 stars was because the one guy was chipper and jollly and didnt pull me down my energy didn't get sapped my this energy vampire, LOL. Seriously I drove out in the cold specifically to get wild salmon for dinner. Sad to say I did NOT walk out with any.. (Got dinner by the happy people at Panda instead) I did buy some other things but no meat. Ok so I was nicely greeted by the young guy, who was nice and I waited for him to help me as he said he would after helped another customer. I was happy myself after a nice New Year. Well apparently the fat butcher had a bad day or maybe he's like that all the time, I don't know, in any case, I said no hurries, the orher gentlemen was gonna help me, thanks."He said, what do you want?" Well the energy was already negative and I can feel it. I didn't do anything to him, nor have I said anything to him other than what I just mentioned, and yet he's already like this.. Just imagine... Anyways, I said well if you want, I'd like that red piece of wild salmon half pound, please cut in 2 pieces of quarter pound pieces from the top portion. He took the salmon and cut it once & it was near a pound!!!! I don't want eat that much and more will just go bad and money wasted. I like them fresh. he didn't do as asked. I did not allow him to bring me down but I'm strongwilled and can say no to this energy stealing, but I feel sorry if anyone got affected by him all day. I took it salmon and thought well maybe I'm judging, but when I touch the wrapped fish, I felt heaviness and off feeling the salmon won't satisfying, a feeling that shouldn't and wasn't there last time I got it here. I left it back in the store. Avoid and passed on ever dealing with Groucho here and just avoid this Major market, or at least the meat deli section. I rather drive farther to Whole foods and get better service and it's probably cheaper and better quality meat and fresher. I rather not eat food handled by that kind of energy.. That's why I prefer my cooking at home or at places where I know the entire staff is happy to be there..and food handled and cooked with love and caring. read more

Its probably the nostalgia, but I love this grocery store. It is so deeply rooted in the community, that you can't help but think of it as Fallbrook's grocery store. I can't even begin to count the number of times that I had to wait for my mom to talk to someone she ran into in one of the aisle, or the nights the we would have their fried chicken for dinner, or the little soup schedules we used to keep on the fridge to know when the good soups were. How I first learned what ciabatta bread was, and how freaking good their sandwiches were. Where we would go for mashed potatoes, gravy, and roasted chicken when nights were cold, or when we had to buy something in a hurry. How I would check each time we came to see if my community student of the month picture had been posted on the wall, and then immediately waiting for that awful picture of me to be taken down. It was where I used to wonder the alcohol section and my mom decided I would be the drinker in the family (she was right). It was also Major Market script that basically funded my east coast trip in 8th grade. With all that being said, Major Market has played a pretty major (hehe) part of my growing up experience. Though it doesn't have the sale prices or the special member benefits that you see at large grocery stores, you can't beat the atmosphere. As I've gotten older I have come to realize that they have a great selection of beer, not just your usual suspects, as well as they have a large selection of wine and spirits. The last time I visited I noticed that they had really amped up their prepared dish selection. They had so many different pre-made meals available that for a brief second, I wished I still lived in Fallbrook to try all the different selections, from burritos, to meatloaf, to eggplant parmigiana, or even the many different quiches To end, I'm not saying it un-American to not shop at Major Market, but this Fallbrookian will silently judge you if you decide to patron Albertsons instead... read more

Major market is our local store. The people are great and they keep tabs on the lines--I never have to wait. The deli counter is awesome--best sandwiches in town --and a nice variety of meats, cheeses, breads and condiments. The women who take orders are attentive and pleasant. Another store in town used to stock boar's head meats but discontinued doing so. When Major market filled the void, that was it for us. They have great produce and no matter what we're looking for, they help us get it. I don't think their prices are overly high and they do discount a few days a week for teachers, military active and retired, and seniors. All the staff have been pleasant and helpful. read more

Albertsons is insanely high priced, but, even more disturbing are all the flies in the deli area. I have seen flies in the enclosed case I mentioned it to an employee and he, in a very blase' manner, replied: " yeah, the summer flies. They come over here to die." I have noticed that the employees' attitude toward customers has changed: they seem more hostile. That usually reflects upper management's attitude. read more

They sell hard to find, foreign chocolate like Flake bars and various Cadbury products and amazingly tasty pies! As if that wasn't enough, the store itself is large yet very homey the way only a local grocery store could be. Major Market is the way I imagine grocery stores were like in the '50's. Lots of high-quality choices, although they don't carry Cento San Marzano canned tomatoes and Albertson's does. Good staff. The manager is extremely rude and disrespectful they don't have very good customer service or employees and don't take their customers thoughts into consideration. I think being in such a small town they should take all the customers feelings and problems into consideration since word of mouth travels very quickly. I have met others going to alternative grocery stores saying they don't like to go to major market because the get weird vibes and feelings and don't feel very welcome. I have been coming here for 10 years and yes they are so nice, support the community etc. but organic produce never wins...I've have tried and tried to give them chances. Their prices are high and they are not coming in and checking the store like a customer would. I'm siting here eating a spring role that tastes old and the sauce is gross. Today is March 1st and it's dated Feb 28th on the package..not a big deal but it's shrimp...my husband went shopping and picked this up for me...he is not the shopper so doesn't pay attention to labels.. I didn't want to write this but I'm tired of spending my money to support my local market and they just can't cut it. Tell the owner Sam to go to Frazier farms and that store in Vista is the absolute bomb of a store. At that store they have the most beautiful awesome selection of FRESH sushi stuff I have ever had besides a sushi restaurant. They make it in front of you. They are on their game all the time. It sucks that I have to drive 25 minutes to get everything in one store....Sorry Sam I really have tried to support your store...it's just missing the mark for me...unfortunately there are moms who say the same thing...granted if I need something I will go there but the bulk of my shopping is not there anymore... read more

Major Market is the best market in town. Their local fruit are so delicious and they always have enough fresh inexpensive fruit to feed our whole family. Their varieties is what makes them special. They also have a money center where I buy money orders to pay my bills and a coin dispenser to get coins. If you cash a check there, you get a special major market coupon for $5 in groceries and their deals are just great. Their meats are always well packaged and in good condition. Their boxed food is slightly more pricey than the chain stores, but its worth it for all the good delicious fresh food they have available. And sometimes you can find clamshells of fruits about to go bad for a dollar a piece! The checkers are also very kind. When I was going through a rough spot and was using financial assistance WIC to buy food, the coupons usually upset everyone and there is usually a humiliation fest for the purchaser who is using food coupons. At Major Market, the checkers treated us like human beings, which is unusual in this political atmosphere, and even offered the same kindness if not more they give their debit-card and cash-paying customers. I've been shopping at Major Market for over 20 years and I love the store in general. However, in the past few years I have been very unhappy with one aspect and because of it I may not shop there again. My problem is with the baggers. My issue is, I have a weight limitation of ten pounds for a medical reason. I repeatedly show the baggers how much to put in one bag and explain my weight limit. Weight is hard to quantify with just words, so I point to my groceries to explain how much in one bag, e.g., nothing heavier than one milk and one can of soup, or two Gatorades, or one orange juice and five yogurts; I am very specific, and I am very nice about it. Yet repeatedly, I get to my car and find the bags so overpacked and overweighted that I have to repack most of them there on the spot. The checkers are very nice and like to chat with you, which I always enjoy, but it has resulted it my not watching the baggers carefully and my groceries getting consistently overpacked. Now I realize that if I wish to continue shopping there I will have to watch the baggers like a hawk to make sure they do not overpack; but I should not have to do that. I should be able to simply state my weight limit, show how much can go in one bag, and feel confident that they will do that, period. These are not stupid kids, they are very capable of listening, comprehending, and following those directions. And some of them do. But most, apparently, simply do not care. It's not rocket science. I'm not trying to make their jobs harder. But I should not have to explain why I have a weight limitation, or beg the baggers to please listen to me this time, and I certainly should not have to repack my grocery bags when I get to the car. They simply don't care enough to take the time or take me seriously. I have talked to the manager about it and the very casual and unsatisfactory attitude was, "Yeah, sorry, we'll talk to them". No professionalism, no sense of someone representing a local business with pride or concern, no sense that my concerns really mattered. So I am giving Major Market one more chance. After that, I am taking my business elsewhere. They do not deserve to have my money if they consistently will not respect their customer. read more

my review is specific. the ready made food section of this grocery store is BEYOND GOOD. the sushi is always fresh and tasty, the oriental salad is probably my favorite salad ever (restaurant, grocery store, homemade. its my favorite) however, the recently changed the lettuce and im not really into it, but the salad is still really good. the burritos and other mexican food are also really good. read more
