This review is for the restaurant not the pub. We came for lunch and found all the usual Irish pub…read moreofferings. The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. It has a reputation for good traditional Irish music every night but unfortunately not until 9:30, way too late for us. Sadly we're just not pub people.

Murphy's has great character and friendly service. It's a pub and a restaurant, but the atmosphere…read moreis definitely dark and pub-like. Very noisy when busy, but that's part of the fun! Music starts at 9pm. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had fish and chips, the stuffed chicken and sticky toffee pudding. Washed it all down with a couple of Guinness and a Red Spot whiskey! It was a lovely meal.

We wandered into this restaurant after a very long day of travel and the only reason we chose it…read morewas because it was next to our hotel. What a find! The staff were friendly and kind. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced. The desert choices were plentiful and delicious. It was a wonderful experience!! The next night we returned again because they were having Irish music and dancers. If you plan to attend this event, go early. It starts at 8 PM and you should be at a table by 630 to get a great spot. It is obviously very popular because it is fantastic. The band was wonderful and the dancers were amazing. We would absolutely return to this restaurant again if we are back in the area.

We stayed in the attached Muckross Park Hotel, and were advised to arrive a little early for dinner…read morebecause they had a trad music show starting at 8pm. We arrived around 700pm, and most tables were filled with a tour-bus crowd. There was one four-top table open by the restrooms, or seats at the bar. We sat at the bar and had a good view of the musicians and dancers. The rest of the bar seats filled up before the show. We had pints of cider and ordered food. My husband had the fish and chips (better than average), and I had the lamb and rosemary pie. I definitely won - mine was delicious! My pie was a ceramic ramekin of savory lamb, carrots, potatoes, and gravy, topped with a bronze, flaky puff-pastry round, speared with a sprig of fresh rosemary. A small chunk of bread accompanied it (largely unnecessary), plus a small bowl of roasted root vegetables. By the time we finished, it was time to swivel our chairs around and listen to the music. Three dancers accompanied the musicians for a few numbers. They also went out into the crowd to show off their steps.

While in Killarney, which turned out to be one of our favorite stops while in Ireland, we wanted to…read morehit a true local restaurant and Cronins was just the spot! Cronins sits on a Main Street through Killarney and feels like old world Ireland from the road to the table. It has a storied past in Killarney, being open over 60 years at this point. The space is as you would expect, cozy, local and welcoming. The menu is rooted in local ingredients including seafood, beef and veggies. We popped in for an early dinner and had an appetizer of the Smoked Irish Salmon, which was fresher than expected. Such a simple dish, but it was executed perfectly. For our mains, we had a burger and the Shepard's Pie. Burger was good. It was juicy, well cooked and the onion relish thing they had going on was *chefs kiss*. The Shepard's Pie was spot on. Both were made with local beef, which was cool and extra tasty! Beyond the food, Cronins also has their own cider, which was phenomenal and oddly enough, the only cider I had the whole time I was in Ireland! That speaks more to the hold Guinness had on me and less to the variety of cider. After the cider, we went with a few house cocktails including the Clover Club and Dingle Donkey. Both were well prepared, vibrant and tasty! Service was uniquely local, friendly and fun! From the bartender to our server, they were both excellent! Overall, Cronins is a stellar spot in a great spot in Killarney! When we get back over the pond and to Killarney, Cronins is on the list to swing by again!

We start with a brie appetizer, which was so delicious. The brown bread with butter and a tomato paste was also quite good. I had the salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and vegetables.
