I went recently to get my hair braided. I was told it was be 140 but once I got there, they tried to charge me 240 for box braids which was ridiculous. I got my hair braided and I told the stylist multiple times that she was braiding my hair too tight and she would just respond "sorry" and continue. I honestly regret not getting up in the middle of the session and leaving because now my scalp is all bumpy and my hair is ripped out from the scalp. What's the point of paying a bunch of money for a new hair style and can't wear it confidently? Now the owner Miriam , won't respond back to any of my messages once I sent her the pictures. So, after two decades (20 years we're talking) with the same braidist, I found myself on the hunt for someone to braid my hair-my briader decided she didn't want to do hair anymore, would make an exception for me where I could come to her house, etc. Needless to say I was unhappy and distraught but a sista needs to get her hair done, so no time to grieve. I had to suck it up and search for someone and somewhere new. I was feeling really anxious about it because who would do my hair so perfectly, and who'd understand how to make my head look full since I have fine hair? Who? Well, my search led me to Majestic Braiding. I read a few Yelp reviews and bit the bullet. I explained to her what I wanted and she explained to me the pricing and how many packs of hair to get. So, I go buy the hair (something I've never done, but I'm rolling with it) and feel confident enough after having spoken to her that this is it. I make my appointment and go to the shop. The place is nice enough. Set up with tv, snacks (for a nominal fee) and they offer you water for free. You explain what you are getting and after it was all said and done I was so pleased with the results (I got large Marley twists). She told me to bring x amount of packs of hair, I ended up needing more so she sent her (what appeared to be husband) to the store to get more; never asking me to pay one more cent. She was engaging and she even let me vent about the loss of my braidist and said her and her staff welcome me with open arms. I learned a lot about her and her family and she too had been braiding hair over 20 years. The whole experience is nice, and again, my hair turned out wonderfully. If you decide to try them out (which I recommend you do because not only did the person who braided my hair do a good job, but every stylist in there did an excellent job on their respective clients) just know that the building is right next to the pizza place. You go inside and up the stairs one flight (or take the elevator up to the second floor) and you'll find them in a suite/room on the right hand side of the hallway; the door is usually open. Although they are further out of the way for me, I'll continue to patronize them. read more

My girlfriend doesn't have a yelp account, so she'll talk about her terrible experience here with how Miriam (the owner) treated her. I set an appointment with Miriam to do my braids at 8AM for Saturday. When I talked with her on the phone, she told me that she'd be able to do it for $140 for the type of look I wanted. I wake up early the morning of my appointment to call and confirm it. No one picked up, but I still went and arrived at the time planned. As soon as I get there I wanted to confirm the price and now was being told that it's going to be $180 - $200. Can you believe that? She's trying to raise the price on me even after telling me over the phone a different price. I was not about to pay that much and told her I was going to leave, but now suddenly she said they can do it for $160, but I will have to wait for one of the other workers to do my hair... Fine, I'll accept it.. whatever as I waited to get seated. Soon after, someone walks in and gets seated by her to be done before me! My appointment was confirmed by the both of us at 8AM! I told myself I would leave at 8:30 if no one showed up by then to do my hair. 8:28 came and I decided it just wasn't worth it, got up, and left. I wasted my time going through all this and felt this review was necessary to warn everyone.The bad reviews on this place are very accurate. I've never met someone as unprofessional as Miriam. First I called (on a Saturday morning) to ask a few questions regarding the price etc unlike most salons on a busy sat morning I didn't feel rushed or pressured over the phone. When I showed up to the salon Miriam, who is the owner remembered that I had called and was able to take me right away. She was polite and pleasant, checking on me and ensuring that she was not braiding too tight. Being the owner she did stop a few times to check on other patrons and answer the phone, while this usually would have annoyed me about a stylist I appreciated that she seemed compassionate towards everyone in the shop. The only downside to my experience was that there is an $8 fee if you use a credit card, so I had to leave to go get cash. But... It's nice to actually see a finished product to determine if I would be satisfied with the work. When I arrived I was received at the door by the owner, Miriam, who has the sweetest disposition you'll ever find. I was thrown back into the braid life after a traumatic haircut, and I was anxious about all the things that made me walk away from braids 15 years ago: they hurt, don't feel like sitting all day, sometimes people in the shop aren't nice, will they damage my hair? The owner, Mariem, saw me the same day I called for a consultation. She was straightforward with the cost and instructive re which hair to buy. I also stressed my tender-headedness, and she offered a technique used on children that is less painful. Throughout the braiding process, Mariem checked to make sure the braids weren't too tight. Took a long time, but my hair is thick and always takes a long time. I was very happy with the result. I did have some soreness for about a week, but the process of getting them in didn't hurt, and after a week, the soreness was gone and I wore the braids for another ten weeks. My daughters and I have been going to Mariam and her team at Majestik hair for about 10years. They are very professional and courteous. They make sure you are comfortable the entire time since getting your hair braided is very time consuming. When my second daughter started coming here her hair was very damaged from heat damage and straightening for over a year. After getting her hair done here in protective styles for over a year, her hair went back to its length and thickness. I had Senegalese twists done about 3 weeks ago. The young lady that did my hair knew how to connect them properly without braiding them first. Very satisfied with the final product. Not only was it neat, but she was fast completing my hair in only 4 1/2 hrs. So after reading reviews I made an appointment online. Got a confirmation text and email. When I showed up there was signage on the street. But the didn't see any signs on the door or the directory in either lobby (there is a lobby on either side of the building). So I parked then called the number listed above. I told the person who answered that I had an 9am appointment. She asked if I was getting a specific style, I told her no I was getting something else. She tells me that she doesn't have me listed as one of the appointments. And that maybe my appointment went to the owner who is out of town but coming back today. First Visit: Around Feb 2020, went in for Senegalese twists. The girl doing my hair kept telling me my hair was "too soft" and would not last long. Asked if I wanted box braids instead, I said no I really wanted the twists. Before we got started she asked me what length I wanted. I showed her she said okay. She pulled kind of tight in some areas and seemed annoyed every time I would kindly say hey that's a little tight but overall wasn't too bad. We get to the end. She dips my hair in boiling hot water to seal the ends. But, only thing is they completely wet up your shirt. So we finish up and I said oh are you going to cut it (to the length we had agreed on before getting started). She says oh we can't cut it the hair you got is prestretched so I can not cut it. So, okay, thats understandable, but WHY NOT TELL ME THAT BEFOREHAND. I work in a professional environment and can not walk around with super long extension/braids. Fast forward 3 weeks later and twists literally just randomly fell out of my head throughout the week. Like LITERALLY SLIPPED OUT. Even one at work luckily it was by the bathroom and no one noticed. So I took them out then (3 weeks total) paid $220 (I left a $20 tip). I was like okay whatever, she did I guess "warn me" that she thought my hair was "too soft" for them Next visit: July 2020. So I didn't have quite the best experience the first time but said, hey you know I'll give them another chance. Plus not many shops were open that didn't have a waitlist after COVID. So I decide to give it another go, this time trying box braids since that is what they recommended the last time. We set an appointment for 9 am weeks in advance. I called to confirm a few times and to touch base with her to make sure I had the right hair this time etc. I made sure not to get prestretched this time so I could have it cut to my desired length. I also called the day before to ask about the Covid policy she said everyone was wearing masks and that she cleans "like every hour". So cool. (Side note no one cleaned the whole 5.5 hrs I was there and not properly distanced and the owner kept pulling her mask down) The next morning I get there at 9 am. I walk in and notice there are 2 customers and only 2 stylists figured mine was on her way. She asks me to come over and have a seat by her. Then tells me that my stylist will not be there until 10. She FORGOT to call me. So apparently the story was that the original stylist had to leave that morning as her son was sick. She kept repeating "I like to be honest I dont like lying to my customers". So okay that is completely understandable if the first stylist had to leave to get her son. I get it being a mom comes first. BUT WHY WAIT TILL I GET THERE RATHER THAN CALL ME AND SAY HEY WE HAD TO PUSH YOU BACK TO 10. LIKE ITS THATS SIMPLE. And I traveled from North of Baltimore to get there by the way so not a short drive at all. So she calls the other stylist and says that she was on her way and lived about 25 min away and should be there before 10 so I'm like okay cool. The sylist literally walks in at 9:59 so I decide to just go ahead with the appointment. So I show both the owner and the stylist what I want. One photo was a larger size box braid the other was medium. She says that I should go with the smaller of the two so I said okay. We agreed on a length. I wanted it shorter but they said my hair was too long to make it any shorter. I had areas sectioned off when I came in that I didn't want to be braided like my edges and back where its really soft. She ignores that and made her own sections. The braids came out way smaller than originally discussed and again a little longer. And she braided it ENTIRELY TOO TIGHT AND KEPT COMBING MY HAIR FROM THE ROOT. I kept flinching and when she asked if too tight I said yea but she continued the same way. My whole scalp hurts even after oiling. I can't even turn my head and they are pulling and heavy! Thats NOT NORMAL! $200 for something I will likely have to take out as I dont want my hair damaged :( DO NOT GO IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE HEALTH OF YOUR HAIR! read more

So I chose majestic based on the reviews. Yes the owner is very welcoming as any business owner that wants you money would be. I called to schedule a consultation which was Friday, I got the "exact price" or so I thought and I noticed the $8 credit card fee on the wall so I made sure I took out enough cash including tip money. When I arrived on Saturday for my appointment I was asked/ told about hair that was offered meaning that the hair that's normally used would cost me a extra $10 per pack x3 on top of the $8 credit card fee, AND then I was asked oh I didn't tell you about this.... Uuummmmm no or else I wouldn't be here spending a total of $238 when hair is normally included in all braiding styles I've had in the past. Next time I will just go to a salon closer to my home which will save me about $83. read more

Majestik Braiding is the BEST braiding salon, bar none!!!! Mariam (the owner) braided my hair in Havana twists a month ago. My hair still looks FANTASTIC and even though it was done a month ago, I still receive compliments DAILY! The back of my hair is short, fine, and curly so when my hair started growing out, three of the braids in the back began to slip. I called Mariam to have those few braids tightened and she redid them with absolutely no hesitation and refused to accept any payment from me even though it was not her fault. As a first time customer, I made an appointment with Majestic and was emailed a reminder to which I confirmed. I was scheduled for a 9:15 am appointment and was called at 9:06 am in route only to be asked to come later around 2ish or 1ish or whenever she would call. The person who called me (a woman) sounded as if she had just woken up. I will not be spending my money here. I have notice that all the good reviews on here are about hairstyles and while I'm sure they are talented, the negative reviews are about the overall experience and lack of professionalism which is now inline with my review i.e. no call no shows, unprofessional shop talk, no flat rate pricing and changing prices last minute, calling at the last minute. If you are a small company and starting, this needs to be cleaned up asap because its hurting your business greatly. The person on the phone did apologize to me, but in business a "I'm sorry" is the least of my worries and a offer of discount or something needs to be made when the patron cannot render a service. read more

After combing through some yelp interviews, I decided to give Miriam a call. I agree with the other reviewers- she is a great listener and very professional. I actually came the day before because she took out my sew-in (so gentle!), but we were able to discuss what I wanted-- my concern about my edges, the size, and color for my Senegalese Twists. They turned about amazing! Not too tight and the perfect length! I wasn't too shocked about about the price. I would honestly rather pay a bit more for the excellent service and quality results. My first time getting my hair braided here. I must say, Felisha did a wonderful job. It took approximately 8 hours for half box braids and half cornrows. The atmosphere is pleasant. The shop is clean and relaxing. However, I strongly recommend that you go in a day before to get an actual price for the braiding style you want. The prices on the on their website were not true to what you will actually be charged upon arrival. Box braids on the website stays $140 - $160. They actually charged me $200 + 8 dollar service charge. I had to use my credit card for the additional amount that was tacked on for the original service. I chose to purchased and bought and use my own braiding hair (Anti-bacteria no itch hair). Other than that, I have and will recommend Felisha one of the braiders at this shop. The owner Miriam is very accommodating to the customer's needs. I had to travel at the last minute for a funeral and wanted something that would hold up but wasn't too pricey. I would not recommend this shop. I've been getting braids for years with no issues. The person who regularly braids my hair was out of the country, so based on the yelp reviews, I gave this shop a try. Big mistake. My hair comes to right above my bra strap so I requested extra long braids to ensure my real hair was protected. Miriam cut the braids way too short with the razor and in the process cut my real hair. She cut several really short braids in the middle of my head and actually cut it shorter than my real hair. Now my hair has extremely short chunks and is uneven, due to her sloppy finishing. I stressed I wanted long braids to ensure my own hair would be covered and despite presenting herself as a professional, she completely butchered my hair. DO NOT go to this shop. A few months ago while searching yelp i found this salon. I must have come on a bad day. My appointment was scheduled for 1 pm. I received a confirmation call the day before and the person says.. you can only get here at 1?? I replied, yes but I'll try to get there a little earlier. I arrived around 12:45. I was greeted with a slight attitude. I was thinking ok, she'll warm up. We go over what size I want in Senegalese twist, I wanted the 2nd to smallest. She quotes a price. $200. Cool. Then she ask the color, I said mostly 1b but I want about 10-20 highlights in a auburn color. That's when things got worse...... we went back and forth about that color for like 15 minutes. I guess she didn't want to open a pack of hair?? Long story short, 2 people braided my thick hair using two different techniques. Imagine the take down!!!! One twisted in and one braided in at the root. Shameful!!! Anyway, the two ladies talked the ENTIRE 7.5 hours. I started counting down the silent moments. They never made it to 30 seconds. Finally, the sizing of the twist in the middle of my head were at least 1 inch sections. That doesn't work well with thick hair and small twist. After 2 weeks, my hair looked like it was a month and half old. I will say the owner did come in to greet me after I had been there for hours. She was pleasant and asked how things were going but how do you tell a person you're workers aren't great while they are doing your hair?!? I won't be returning. read more

My 14 year old daughter had gotten box braids at another braiding salon (Claudette's Braiding Gallery) on Friday and the braider that did her hair at that salon braided her hairline entirely too tight even though I asked her not to, so I had to remove the braids along her hairline because she was in too much pain. I called Claudette's to tell them that the braids were too tight and was told to put a hot cloth on the edges and if that didn't work come back on Sunday. Before going on Sunday, I called the salon to see what time I should bring my daughter and was told they are closed on Sundays, go figure. So, I called several braiding places but non were open not even Majestic. Miriam the owner of Majestic saw that I had called and called me back, mind you this is on a Sunday. I explained to Miriam my dilemma and she was so nice and understanding. Now she was not working today, but she allowed my daughter and I to come to her house and she re-did the braids around my daughter's hairline and made sure they were not too tight. Now again, Majestic was not the salon that originally did my daughter's braids, but Miriam was more than willing to help us out and she did a GREAT job. She really listened and was very professional. I wanted my hair braided, but I didn't want to go through the pain that certain shops inflict on their customers. So after doing some research, I stumbled across Majestic, the reviews were good so I decided to give them a chance. I called on a Saturday, and was able to make an appointment for Sunday morning. The lady that answered was so kind, and told me how many packs of hair to get and an estimated price. Now they provide hair for certain styles but I guess with the style I wanted, I needed to bring hair. They even called me later that night to confirm my appointment. When I arrived to the shop, the stylist was around 10 minutes late. I was a little nervous, but once they got into the shop (which was clean) they moved very quickly and got started on my hair. The owner arrived a few minutes later and greeted us customers warmly with a hug, and confirmed what styles we wanted and price. She gave us free water and stools to rest our feet on. They sell snacks as well, which is a nice touch. The lady that did my hair was super gentle, and asked me multiple times if I was okay. I had a bad weave a few months ago, and the stylist was very gentle when working with the areas where my hair is growing back. All of the ladies were super nice. While their prices are a little higher, I believe that you get what you pay for. My head is always super tender after I get it braided, but when I left Majestic, I felt fine and I was able to sleep comfortably. If you've ever gotten your hair braided, you know this is a big deal lol. My suggestion would be to communicate with your stylist, because they genuinely want you to be satisfied. Around 11/23 I contacted the owner so that I could make an appointment with her to get my hair braided since she did such a wonderful job. She told me that I could come in the same day. When I arrived, I was told that the owner Meriam had guests at her home for Thanksgiving, and she wouldn't be there. Meriam never told me that. She led me to believe that she would be doing my hair. So, I let the girl do my hair. It looked nice, but she left hair hanging out of my braids that I had to try and trim myself. I let the owner know, and she said I could come one day during the week, but said that the girl chassidy or Cassidy who braided my hair could trim it before her 2pm client after she gets out of church. I thought that was kind of unfair to the person who had an appointment. .... I was not able to make it and asked her if I could come on the day she originally told me. She said no..... The same day we spoke, she was there at the salon, but told me that I couldn't come on that day either because she was getting ready to leave. Fast forward 3 weeks and $200 later, my braids are coming out, braids are unraveling, and the hair that was never trimmed looks even worse. If you can, find another place....... Sad because there's a Iady there that does good work I think and is probably more consistent, but the owner needs to be more consistent so as not to make it bad for everyone there. I'm very dissatisfied and disappointed with my hair. It hasn't even been a month yet, and my hair needs to be re-done. Not only that, leading a client to believe that one person is doing the hair and they get there to find something different is one of the biggest customer service mistakes. read more

I went to Miriam to have a sew in with just a little leave out. She did a great job braiding my hair. It was secure, but not too tight, and it was easy for me to wash my hair with them in. The weave was very natural looking and she made sure not to cut up my hair. Even my parents couldn't tell it wasn't my hair. They have standard pricing for everything so make sure to check in advance based on what you would like. Mine was expensive but I wouldn't say it was overpriced based on the results I got. read more
