Majer is this a really cute chain bakery place. They have a couple shops in Venice. The cafe had good coffee and fresh pastries. My friends and I stopped by a couple of times for breakfast before everything else on the island was open. They have these freshly made pizzas displayed by the window, and we couldn't help but stop in. The counter featured an assortment of pastries like fruit and cream tarts (my favorite) and steaming fresh bread. The pizza was really nice with thin crusts, and they were heavy on the toppings - we chose two slices to share: one with mushrooms/thyme and the other with rockets, fresh olives, tomatoes, and cheese. The staff were also super nice and helped us cut the slices for sharing. This chain closed pretty late as well. So, after walking around Venice for a good part of the evening (and consequently, we were all chilled to the bone), we stopped by a Majer for a cuppa tea. We picked up a bag of these lemon pastries which were the bomb dot com - really soft, fluffy, and sprinkled with powdered sugar! They were so good, I went and picked up some before the flight back home.

Not European and dying for some food before they serve dinner at 8? Nice causal dining with a glass of wine with a window to the river outside. Great place a hearty snack to tide you over. Wonderful squash and pumpkin soup was served with mixed nuts and seed. Yum! What was unexpected was being asked to taste the vino before they poured the glass! Crazy for a causal dining place.

Probably the best restaurant we ate at in Venice. It didn't feel touristy since it was in Giudecca away from the crowds on the main island. The food was delicious with unique flavors and combinations. They had an unorthodox take on tiramisu and it was amazing. Presentation was also great. Highly recommend taking a water taxi over to Giudecca to try out this place.

Looks good, does not taste as good, glass if wine 2 fingers, bread 4 euros, with food, and no smile. Try Palanca next door.
