I told her about my past experience and she calmed my nerves immediately. She was great company and we talked about the pandemic and bonded over our shared love of cats. Today is my birthday. This place was recommended to me by a girl where I have an appointment for a massage. I asked for a no chip mani and regular pedi. Colors were limited and when I found a color I liked there was not a matching regular polish to go with it. An was my tech. She was friendly and did a phenomenal job. The receptionist seemed very involved in all kinds of people and their business. I am sure I heard things about you if you have been there recently. The massage chair was great. Unfortunately, I just down to lunch and found that I have a rippled effect in my polish on my nails. Not really sure what the deal is but I don't know what I am going to do. Every time I make it back to Bloomington, I go see the girls. I now live in a large metropolitian area and I have YET to find a place that: 1. Does it as well as these girls do 2. Does it as CHEAP as they do 3. Does it as CLEAN as they do 4. Does as thorough of a job as they do These ladies are amazing. Susan and the crew are HILarious. They will scrub your feet baby soft while making cracks at something Oprah says or what's on the news. Your stomach will ache but your feet will feel amazing. Appointments can be hard to come by when there's rush week or any sort of sorority related event (ick). But during the summer, their book is wide open and you can probably book the same day. They have Opi nail polish. They do the BEST French in town (not airbrushed, but actually painted on). They are by far the cleanest, cheapest shop in Bloomington. The autoclave to sterilize the equipment is clearly seen (and used!) and they scrub out those pedicure tubes really well in between costumers. My pedicure from them actually lasts an entire beach vacation. And without the abuse of the water, I can make it at least a month before I start to see a chip. My feet miss these girls! Pedicures are $25-30, I believe for a spa pedicure with a regular polish. I can't sing enough praises for this shop. I just wish I could take one of them back to Detroit with me and open up shop there! read more

Found this place on Yelp while in town for a wedding. I called and was able to get an appointment for both me and my daughter the next morning. Was very appreciative that they could squeeze us in, they seemed like they were very booked up. Pros - The young lady who did my 11 year of daughter's toenails and fingernails was extremely patient, kind, and did a great job on the nail art. Cons - they were so obviously overbooked that everyone was running around like a chicken with their head cut off. Not a very relaxing atmosphere. The bill was four dollars more because I paid with a credit card. Not a bad place, just wasn't my favorite. read more

Amazing nail care! I would recommend an appointment, but they sometimes have walk in availability. Deluxe and spa pedicures are my favorite, but I've also had a full set of acrylic nails put on and maintained. Very nice staff, comfortable environment, great service, and a good value. Morgan was very friendly and did a great job painting my nails. It is really easy to have a conversation with girls at this shop - they are all down to earth and friendly. My only complaint is that my nail polish chipped significantly the day after my manicure, and I think that may have been because they applied a fast drying top coat that did not protect the manicure as much as it needed. Visiting a friend in Bloomington and we decided to get pedicures. Based on reviews, we picked MaiSunami and called in to make our appointments. They said they had no problem getting us in that afternoon. We arrived a little early, picked out our colors, but didn't get seated til almost 20 minutes after our appointment time. Both of our pedicures started at the same time, but my nails were done and starting to dry before my friend had anything done to her feet aside from the initial soak. The gal working on my friend was also getting assigned to all the walk-ins. At one point, she was trying to work on 2-3 people at once, and it looked like she forgot about my friend's pedicure. We were under the impression that appointments took precedence over walk-ins, but perhaps not. While everyone was nice, there was a lot of general confusion among the staff and especially with the receptionist. She kept telling us and other clients to do one thing only to be contradicted by another staff member. The woman working on my nails frequently stepped away from me to correct her mistakes with other clients. However, at the end of it we were both very happy with how our nails turned out even if it all took over 2 hours for our pedicures. Despite the time and disorganization, we both left thinking it was a salon we'd return to. A few hours after we left, we got a call from the salon. They claimed they had undercharged me by $3, and were asking permission to adjust the charge on my card. I thought it was odd to call a customer for your mistake over such a small amount, but I agreed. Fifteen minutes later they called back saying it was actually my friend's card that was undercharged and asked her the same. She agreed as well. I understand that you should pay for the services you get, but I thought it was it poor taste to call a customer over $3 and then have to call again because you made a mistake on that too. Both of us are not sure if we'll go back now due to the overall unprofessionalism and poor customer service they displayed. If we do, we will pay in cash. read more

I went to this nail salon to get acrylics done a few months back. The lady doing my nails took 3 HOURS to do square-shaped acrylics, with regular nail polish (not gel). I had no special designs on my nails, just plain. At my hometown salon it takes like 45 minutes to an hour to get this done. So, in the end, I spent 3 hours at a nail salon to have my nails last for less than 3 days. I woke up in the morning to see that they fell off, and after that, nails started to just break off one by one. They must use really low quality materials because when I get my acrylics done at other places, they last so much longer without any chips or breaks. Never will go here again. read more

I've been here twice to get an express gel manicure done. The first time I had to come in and get one nail fix but the gels lasted for 4 weeks. Then the second time, Angela did my nails. She is great, super friendly and helped me pick out the perfect color. I had an entire nail peel off two days after I went in and she fixed it for me and then a few days later three more peeled off. I went in again and Angela fixed them, but now just a few days later and all of them cracked and began to peel up so I had to take them all off. $30 for nails that didn't even last a week even after going back twice. It's unfortunate because I liked the place, it's clean and the staff is friendly, but this makes me not want to go back. read more

I was running 15 minutes late to my appointment today since it was pouring rain and traffic was insane. Susan called me and told me she didn't want me to get hurt rushing over and that she moved the next client's appointment to 15 minutes later. When I walked in, everyone was very friendly even though I was late. I've been to salons before where the slightest inconvenience ticks off the staff, and then they passive-aggressively rip at your cuticles for the next 20 minutes. It's clean and comfortable. The massage chairs are nice and the technicians were thorough. My mom has nerve problems in her feet and they adjusted her massage accordingly. They have lots of quality polish choices and up to date magazines. Prices are reasonable for the treatment we received. I do a lot of camping and hiking so they spent extra time scrubbing calluses off my feet. Kudos! My mom and I would both come back again. read more

I had a pedicure before a beach vacation and 3 weeks later I have yet to see a chip. I think I'm going to have to take the polish off because it is fading from the sun, not chipping...a first! The gal who did my pedicure did a very thorough but efficient job. She sensed I wasn't in the mood for lots of small talk and that I just wanted to read a magazine...which I greatly appreciate. I have been going to Maisunami for almost 5 years for all of my nail needs - it is the only place in Bloomington that I will let touch my nails. The staff are extremely friendly and always make sure that your nails turn out perfectly. The owner, Susan is a very sweet woman and all of her staff are accommodating. My gel manicures always come out perfectly and my pedicures remain chip-free for months. This is the ONLY place in Bloomington that will actually make a pedicure worth your while and $ - my feet always come out soft and renewed. Solid hole-in-the-wall nail place. I had a gel mani and a spa pedi, and made a reservation the day before without any issues. They have a ton of colors to choose from, and did a good job. I'm deducting one star because they called me about an hour before my manicure and said they had a large group come in without a reservation... so my appointment would be moved back an hour. They do great work! However, they are appointment only, and I can't even count how many times they have gotten my appointment time wrong or called me last minute to reschedule. Poor customer service and poor organization. I have an 8 week old son and paid a sitter and everything just to get my nails done - I showed up and they had my appointment time wrong and refused to do my nails. I come to Bloomington once a year and make a point to visit Masunami because they consistently give a really good pedicure. The owner obviously knows what good foot care is about and her staff asks for her input. I think that is an excellent sign that she teaches as well as manages, and they all have a really good relationship with each other. It's not a fancy place, and if you find young people with tattoos and piercings to be off-putting, this may not be the spot for you, but if you want a pedicure by someone who cares about doing a good service, then this is the place to go. If the chair was more comfortable, they would get 5stars. I don't know why salons all have those massage chairs, I wish they were just chairs that you could adjust front and back for taller or shorter people. I don't need that mechanical thing. read more

I had an overall positive experience here. I opted for my first gel manicure. Apparently the dryer that we used first wasn't working properly, so after going through a base coat, two coats of color, and a top coat, we had to completely remove everything and start from scratch. At that point, Susan took over and redid everything. I appreciated the care she took to fix everything and make sure it was done correctly. I've been going to this place for about three years now and it used to be my favorite place. I feel it has gone down hill. The staffing has gone down from 5 to 2 people and they seem to always be overbooked and running behind. I've had to wait quite a while the last several times I've gone. However, they are very adamant about booking in advance and call you several times to make sure you are keeping your appt and ask that you come early! The actual pedicure is a good job, but they never update you on timelines or apologize for delays, just avoid eye contact and have the assistants do almost everything except the cutting and polish, which I've never experienced at any other salon. Last time there I waited 20 minutes while my soaking water got cold before my trim and polish happened. That being said, I did receive a very nice foot massage from the assistant. Unfortunately, I won't be going back as I no longer think their customer service is on par. I'd rather go to a walk-in place and get helped immediately! read more

I'm on my feet all the time for work so this was great getting them removed. My feet have never felt better or looked this good! I was never told how much it was going to be but had $60 on me.
