I also tried the steak and lobster, which was also very tasty as well. My friend got medium rare steak and it was butter. Perfectly cooked. I ate at Maison Kasai in Downtown Los Angeles using vouchers we had purchased online. The food was good, and the overall dining experience started off well. However, the service and the way the bill was handled completely changed my opinion. Throughout the meal, our server did the bare minimum, rarely checking on us or refilling our water. When the bill arrived, I noticed it included a 20% gratuity along with a 3% credit card surcharge. Since I had cash, I handed the server $40 and asked for my change. That's when he told me they don't have change because the restaurant is cashless and showed me a sign. I then pointed out that the menu I was given never mentioned a 3% credit card surcharge. I also questioned how it made sense to advertise being cashless while charging customers an extra fee for using a credit card. The server insisted the online menu disclosed the fee and claimed that "everywhere charges a credit card surcharge," which simply isn't true. After I challenged it, he suddenly offered to remove the surcharge and brought back a revised bill for $25.45. When I decided to pay that amount with my credit card instead, he told me he would have to add the 3% fee back. Fortunately, I had exactly $25.45 in cash, so I left that amount on the table and left. It honestly felt like he expected me to leave the original amount without questioning it. After getting home, I checked the restaurant's online menu myself. I could not find any disclosure about a 3% credit card surcharge. I also noticed that the menu states the 20% automatic gratuity only applies to parties of six or more, and our party was smaller than that. We splurged on Mission Kai for a special occasion, ordered several premium upgrades, and spent over $700 for two adults and two children. Unfortunately, no part of the meal felt worthy of a special occasion, other than the 5 mins of magic & the presentation but that's it. Nearly every dish was overly salty, the medium steaks was overcooked, and the lobster was so chewy that three of the four lobster tails were left untouched. Horrifically the tried to serve us the wrong steak thinking we didn't know what filet looks like? Service 2/10 The service was disappointing. Our server seemed overwhelmed and even commented that we were asking too many questions, making us feel like an inconvenience. Was hard to find to her refills & I had to flag her down to bring and also pay our check. Dishonesty What concerned us most was being served the wrong cut of meat after paying extra for the filet and lobster upgrade. The chef was cooking us served skirt steak instead of filet. When I questioned it, the chef didn't apologize Instead, he told us he had "done us a favor" by giving us a bigger cut of meat" with attitude! substituting a different, less expensive cut without discussing it with us--after we had ordered an upgrade--was unacceptable. Even more disappointing, no manager ever came to our table to address the situation. My son also specifically requested plain fried rice with no vegetables, yet the chef cooked jf with vegetables. When he brought it to their attention, we were essentially told it had already been made and too bad he had to way which he didn't Overall 2/10 For a restaurant at this price point, we expected exceptional food, service, and attention to detail. We chose Maison Kasai to celebrate my brother's birthday after seeing so many great reviews on social media. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations, especially considering we spent nearly $600 (including tip) for three people. I want to start by saying Chef Eddie was outstanding. He had an amazing personality, kept everyone engaged, and genuinely made the experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food itself was incredibly disappointing. The $100+ Wagyu ribeye lacked flavor and certainly didn't taste like a premium cut of beef. The salad tasted as if the lettuce hadn't been properly washed, and the tomato soup honestly reminded us of canned Campbell's tomato soup. The biggest issue was my brother's steak. He specifically ordered it well done, yet it arrived extremely undercooked and bloody. My brother doesn't like to complain, especially on his birthday, so I spoke with the manager. While he apologized and offered a small discount, it didn't come close to making up for the overall experience. The issue wasn't just one steak, it was the overall quality of nearly every dish served at our table. Even the couple seated next to us commented that they were disappointed with their meals as well. In the end, I barely ate any of my meal, went home hungry, and was left with a $600 bill for what was supposed to be a special birthday celebration. It's incredibly disappointing when you choose a restaurant for an important occasion and the food fails to meet even basic expectations. To make matters worse, I reached out directly to the General Manager after our visit in hopes of discussing what happened and giving the restaurant an opportunity to make things right. I never received a response. That lack of follow-up was just as disappointing as the meal itself. It left me feeling as though once the bill was paid, our experience no longer mattered. The food was amazing overall, and our chef Ivan was incredible! super attentive with the plating and presentation, and everything tasted thoughtfully prepared. The pea soup especially surprised me in the best way possible. Such a unique flavor and easily one of my favorite parts of the meal. The only thing I didn't enjoy food-wise was the salad because it was way too sour for my taste. Unfortunately, the service and staff experience really dragged the night down. Everyone was very nice, but the staff seemed extremely disorganized, confused, and honestly untrained. They tried to double charge our bill, and after I pointed it out, they removed the duplicate charge but somehow still kept the extra taxes from the duplicate bill on there. When I flagged it again, they acted like they were doing me a favor by removing it "just this once," when I was literally just pointing out a math error. Why would I pay taxes on a charge that was removed? The servers also kept forgetting things seconds after asking us. One asked how I wanted my steak cooked, I said medium well, and moments later came back asking if I wanted it rare. My friend said she wanted steak, and the server responded with "So you wanted the cheeseburger?" It honestly felt chaotic the entire night. That said, the food itself was genuinely impressive and very different from your standard teppanyaki experience. I was so excited to go and celebrate my 51st birthday looked at some TikTok and social media. It made me to go there however I requested well done steak. It was literally bloody and did not taste good at all even the other guest were looking at it and were shaking their heads. I was there with my entire family and was very disappointed. A manager came and told me that he's been doing it for 26 years because I told him I was embarrassed to tell the chef, but I did not like the approach of the manager was not professional. Also, he only gave me a small discount instead of removing the entire bill and made my birthday the way it should've been on the way home I started to have stomach ache and wasn't feeling good. I think I deserve a full credit and not just a small discount for ruining my beautiful night, even the other people on the table looked at my food and they were like shaking their head. First course was a salad and it took almost 30 minutes to come out. I finally asked the server who was a darling: (Dionne) Are you short staffed? She replied; "no we're not short staffed, it's coming." After the salad it all seemed to have fallen into place. A magician came to our table and he was somewhat funny. He definitely made the wait for food seem shorter as he entertained us with his cards. I had a good time. Too crowded for me. Too loud, too. I've never been to a restaurant for dinner this crowded and this loud. My date and I walked next door (literally) to Wanderlust and the live band was good. A Dj came after and was good, too. We had a table but our server came once and never again. Frankly; Wanderlust seemed over capacity. We left early because it was too packed and couldn't get a second round of cocktails at our table. There was a lot of people standing in front of our table and in particular two very tall men in their grey, sweat pants and sweat shirt, sets. Where did the dress code go? It's L. A and it's a Saturday night people! Cmon..... I recommend experiencing Maison Kasai at least once. Again, for me, the beet salad was the MVP of the night. My experience at Maison Kasai Restaurant was okay overall. What I enjoyed the most was the show. The chef was friendly, funny, and entertaining to watch as he cooked the food. The food itself was just okay. The highlight for me was the mushroom dish from the lineup. When you arrive, you have the option to order from the Teppanyaki dinner menu or choose à la carte starters, entrées, and sides to create a more personalized meal. The Teppanyaki dinner includes a seasonal first course, a choice of appetizer and entrée, plus Teppanyaki broccoli and fried rice. For my first course, it was already outlined: spring peas and avocado purée. My appetizer was the Teppanyaki Maitake mushroom and cheese. My entrée was a five-ounce Wagyu cheeseburger. For dessert, I had sorbet. Again, the mushroom was the best part of my meal. I also really enjoyed the show, and our waiter was attentive. The experience takes some time, so if you're in a rush, this may not be the best place. We had a 9:15 p.m. reservation and finished around 11:30 p.m. As for the taste of the food--I liked the rice, although it was a bit salty. The burger wasn't my favorite. The food wasn't the highlight for me; the show definitely was. If I had the chance to come again, I wouldn't order the burger. I'd probably try the salmon or steak instead. The other couple that was celebrating a birthday ordered steak she picks up the steak and bends it back and forth. Unsure of what the significance of bending the steak. She poked the other steak with her finger several times. My sister never got her shrimp fried rice nor mashed potatoes. Long horrible story short. We asked for the manager. The other couple got up told the manager they were not paying for unseasoned meat that the chef played with. The other couple also got up and left. My husband asked me what are we waiting on? I have never got up and walked out of a any restaurant. Its now 11 pm my sister, brother in love and husband left. So confused annoyed and most of all hungry. The restaurant itself was really pretty, but the set up was a bit funky. The flow of traffic seemed off as it was difficult to move past other tables to get to the bathrooms. I really enjoyed my food. However, I do not think it was worth the price point. I understand small servings, but the creativity behind the dishes did not grab me. I had a fantastic time at Maison Kasai! The restaurant is located in DTLA inside of Level 8. On the 8th floor we met the hostess at the stand and she led us thru a private door entering the restaurant -speak easy style. Once we were seated we were offered drinks and I ordered the Strawberry Seltzer. After placing our order for dinner we were entertained by an amazing magician who performed very impressive card tricks. The three course meal included miso soup, a market lettuce salad and I ordered the 6oz filet mignon which also came with fried rice. The hibachi chef was amazing and cooked the food perfectly. I asked my steak to come with red wine sauce. As a treat we even ordered the caviar service; for my first time trying caviar, it was fantastic! We were seated with another group of four--also a birthday celebration--which was fine, but I still had to remind the staff about both birthdays before they brought out the desserts. Service was extremely slow, and no one came by to bus the table, so dishes piled up throughout the meal. Someone from our group eventually had to get up and ask the staff to clear it. The teppanyaki chef also over-salted nearly every dish, which weakened the flavors of the main course. Overall, I'd rate the food a 6/10, especially considering the price point. What bothered me most was that someone in our party ordered a glass of wine and was charged for a full bottle. Thankfully, I caught the error before we left. As of right now, Maison Kasai only offers an $85 prefixe menu that includes miso soup, salad, fried rice, a main of your choice, and a dessert. The choices for the mains are just ok. This would have been fine but we were all looking forward to getting the whole lobster they used to offer a la carte. We all ended up getting the filet bc it was the best option for the money. One person got an add on to their entree choice; 2 in our group upgraded their fried rice for an exorbitant amount, something like $18 each to add a minimal amount of shrimp. The upsells here are super expensive and the pressure to upsell is uncomfortable. Pros: 1. short magic show before your meal. 2. Drinks were delicious albeit expensive $$$ Cons: 1. Overpriced for what it was: Bill for the 3 of us ended up being $500+ and the food was just like beni's. The salad here was Bibb lettuce with a basic vinaigrette. Benihana's has better soup and salad. 2. The service was inconsistent. We had to ask for a lot of things including water. Our server abandoned us after he couldn't upsell us anymore and just started flirting with the bartender for the remainder of our meal. He came quick with the check though. 3. Thankfully because of other reviews, I knew that gratuity was included. They don't let anyone know this, and imho, they are hoping ppl will double tip because they ask for a tip on the receipt and there wasn't a note anywhere that I could see on the final Receipt. This is a super deceptive and bad practice if you charge an auto gratuity for any sized party. Trendy, loud, expensive with mid food. It may be typical LA with a glam crowd and vibe, and great for an out of towner, but if you're from here, there are so many other better places to lay down your hard earned money. The whole level 8 is awesome everyone out for a good time. At Maison we checked in with the hostess and in the mean time went to the bar for drinks the bartenders we're great. Time to get seated and you go through a secret door in to the dinning room, spectacular. The ambiance is so great and fun, good vibes with music playing. Went here for my birthday celebration. Came on a Thursday around 6pm and it wasn't too packed but quickly filled up as it got later. Maison Kasai is in the Moxy Hotel and one of Level 8's concepts. Like a fancy Benihana's, but with a French twist. To get in we had to go through 2 secret doors and they even had a magician walking around, which made it a really fun experience. I'm not really wowed by magicians but I was pretty impressed! The restaurant is dimly lit and has a cool ambiance. We didn't order the 3-course meals but opted for entrees and an appetizer. We started off with the Wagyu Dumplings, which were light and delicious. Then for entrees we ordered the King Salmon and the American Wagyu New York. Salmon was cooked perfectly though we weren't fans of the morel mushrooms. The steak was so good and juicy. Almost melt in your mouth! Would definitely order it again. The Koji Cured Tempura Onion Rings were good as well, though it did come out towards the end of our meal. Wish I could have eaten it with my steak. I emailed the restaurant, and they promptly replied, accommodating all 9 of us. That level of responsiveness and care set the tone for the night. The steak and lobster were cooked to perfection right in front of us, the shrimp fried rice was incredible, and the housemade sauces were to die for. Chef Ryan brought serious skill and genuine personality to the teppan, making the whole experience feel personal and fun. The drinks were just as creative as the food. I had the Amai Suppai, meaning "sweet and sour" in Japanese, and it delivered on every level. We also got a personal magic show woven right into the evening, which was a fantastic surprise. Came here for Mother's Day. It's located inside the hotel Marriott Hotel. The entrance is very lively with lights and music all over the walls. I saw in some photos there's an acrobatic girl hanging behind the host. We didn't get to see it. It would be nice given the special weekend. Bummer. Met with the host and she walked us inside. We passed the bar and it caught me off guard walking towards a book shelf. Then realizing the restaurant is hidden behind the bookshelf!! We were seated and greeted by twins! They're both super nice and gorgeous! My family we all ordered the Australian Wagyu New York Steak, Truffle Risotto and Nori Roll. Each entree you order comes with a side of salad, miso soup, fried rice and salad. I enjoyed it all! The steak however was a tad salty. I see the cook adding salt onto the broccolini's then adding salt onto the steak and adding the butter. I do like my food with salt but it was way too salty. My whole family had a hard time finishing the food. Love the vibe, decor and atmosphere. The entire staff is fast and quick. Sadly for what we paid for a family of 4, our bill including tip came out to $750. I expect us to finish our food and not leave too thirsty. Overall, it was still a good time. read more

Didn't know what to expect, compared to other tepanyaki, but the focus on the food quality was superb. We had a girls night out here and enjoyed being able to slowly enjoy our meal and conversate. Matt cooked our food Kassandra helped serve us, and their rofessionalism was great. read more
