The food and broth isn't bad, but their portions are majorly effed up. If you order an extra large bowl of pho here, you'll get about the portions of meat and noodles as a small/children size bowl of pho at all other restaurants. What the flip?!?! What's the point of ordering an extra large bowl of pho if you give me nothing but a bigger bowl?!?! Yay, another pho restaurant in South Orange County. Better yet, they have good pho and nice service. It's a win. I tried the pho with rare beef and brisket, regular size. There weren't any other people in the restaurant at that time and the pho came out quickly. (It was a little after one on a Saturday and a few minutes later a couple of other couples entered). The plate of bean sprouts and basil was smaller than I have seen in other pho restaurants, but that was not a big deal to me as I don't tend to use that much of either. A couple of jalapeño slices and a couple of limes were on the plate as well. The broth is pretty good, even if it was a little different than I expected. It tasted a little cleaner and maybe a little plainer than I thought it would. That might be just what I am used to from other pho restaurants. Still, I liked the broth. Perhaps the taste was due to it being fresher. I'm not sure. I didn't add any sauces to it, I usually don't. My favorite lunchtime companion, Tom T, really liked the broth and felt he didn't need to add any sauces to it. I think his oxtail pho might have been a better choice than mine. There seemed to be a lot of oxtail in his soup. The taste was very good. I had enough rare beef, sliced green onions, and brisket in my soup to satisfy me. There was also a good amount of noodles which were cooked well; I liked it. I think I might order the oxtail pho the next time I'm there. My regular size bowl kept me full for a good time. There's also the option of a large bowl, of course. I haven't tried any of the other items on the menu but might try the egg rolls on my next visit. Hubby and I came here by his request since he was still at work nearby by the time dinner rolled around so I acquiesced. Granted, it's been a while since we were here but the difference between last time and this time was night and day! Are their days numbered?? Red flag #1: Peak dinner time - no one dining in the restaurant. The place felt like they had the heater on. So we headed outside where we noticed two other parties eating Maison food who also opted to sit outside. Even with that, this turnout was paltry compared to the last couple times we were here. During our entire meal, no one else came to dine. Red flag #2: Again, peak dinner time - no more oxtail. WTF? I mean c'mon...that was the foremost reason I would be here. Their broth isn't special and neither is anything else except the fact that they have oxtail on the menu! It sounded like they just didn't bother making any. Red flag #3: I ordered the rare beef pho, large (after I was informed that there was no more oxtail). The beef was tough as nails. Tougher than any other pho place I've been to. Also, the bowl was all noodles. Like a metric ton. Not that I wanted more of that tough beef but the bowl was noodle heavy, a little skimpy on the beef and broth. I wish I took a pic of the sriracha bottle that they HANDED US (it wasn't already on the table in which case they could plead ignorance). The entire tip was crusted over in dusty, dark red dried hot sauce, with an extra blob like it started to get angry and grow before it was dried over. I couldn't believe any restaurant worker would hand someone a bottle that had that on it. GROSS. I had to take a napkin to it and use try to get some of the crustiness in out of the hole itself. Eventually, I just decided not to use it. Given that all their customers were sitting outside, it was interesting that the staff stayed huddled in the restaurant (guess they don't care that it felt like a furnace in there). Needless to say, we ended up getting up and going inside if we had any wants/needs. They did bother to bring the check outside, though we eventually ended up taking it inside for them to run. When I walk in it doesn't seem much when I walk in. I have tried Vietnamese cuisine multiple times to eat in different places but here in maison de pho was a great experience to have Vietnamese cuisine. The food here is excellent and very good service. I ordered a chocolate milk boba and it was very tasty to drink and has good flavours. The eggs rolls very good and with the spicy sauce I dip it in was very good, a bit spicy for residents but for me not really cause I'm Hispanic and we enjoy chilli and spicies. I ordered a classic dish which is the vermicelli with rice noodles, carrots, pork and a egg roll. Very good dish and the rice noodles you can just taste the richness. Best. Pho. Ever. Their broth is earthy and amazingly flavored. We always get the ox tail bowl. It's out of this world. The flavor is deeply rich with bone broth, onions, garlic, and who knows what magic they throw in the pot. It's amazing!!!! The owner is hilarious and so personable. Makes you feel at home. I've tried so many different phos, this my friends is the best of the best. You're missing out if you haven't tried this place out. *it was so good, we ate there twice in one day. I honestly don't like to write negative reviews, but unfortunately I was not happy with my food. My husband ordered an egg noodle soup and my mom had a shrimp pho and it was good. I ordered a shrimp fried rice. When I got my dish, it looked really good and the portion size was pretty big. The rice itself and the veggies tasted good, but the shrimp was kind of cold and not fully cooked. So we asked the staff to cook the shrimp a little bit more, if possible. They were very nice about it and in about 5 min I got my dish back. It looked like they even added more rice to my plate. However, the shrimp was still not fried, as it should be. And I have noticed that my whole dish was swimming in a pool of oil... I obviously refused having it and we returned the dish. The girl at the front was very nice and returned the money for my dish. I am really hoping that my review will not discourage you guys in any way, but will actually make you to work on those minor things that can make a big difference to a customer. The one and only dish to get here: oxtail pho. Get the regular size because it's equivalent to a large at other places. They load the bowl with tasty, braised oxtail meat, and priced for under $9, that is a steal! Oxtail is hard to come by at most pho restaurants in OC, so this was a great find. The broth stood well on its own, too - definitely unexpectedly good in the Lake Forest area. The pho was a hit! But I also got the spring rolls with half shrimp and pork... and I am going to suggest you not get this. For $5 for 2 spring rolls, not only was the price steep, the rolls were not made with love and the meat inside was severely lacking. The shrimp and pork alone were flavorful, but just one shrimp and one 1 sq. in. of pork couldn't justify the price tag. Hard pass. Staff was nice, and the food came out fast for our group of four. I got the "beef boll" phö... made me sick after I ate it. I had to throw it away. It was cold except the broth. The Thai tea was pretty good. But I felt so gross after eating the food from here. Also, the service was so bad. The workers didn't greet us nor did they have any enthusiasm about working there... almost as if they hated it as much as I did. Maybe it wasn't intentional, but the cashier was constantly giving me side eye and when I came in for another Thai tea, she gave me the dirtiest look and said "can I help you". It's somewhat refreshing and rare to find good quality Pho that reminds me of my days on Clement street in San Francisco. This place is a close as it is gonna get, for now. I got the rare beef pho because it is one of their popular orders. I was craving soup a few nights ago due to a sinus infection and being sick. Soup when you're sick makes everything better. Pho makes the sinuses clear! We got our orders and the staff is customer oriented and give good recommendations. They are very quick to give you your orders. The food is good and the soup remained hot during my whole meal. We took our orders to go and I love that the soup broth was separate from the noodles and beef. The portions seem a bit off, as Jessica L. mentioned in her review. I agree with here. I think I only had one or two pieces of beef. Oh well. I was more focused on the broth and warmth of the soup because it helped clear my sinuses. Anyway, I enjoyed my soup and I got to try the spring rolls which were very fresh and don't really need the sauce that goes with it. I was full after our meal and I felt slightly better from the sinus issues. Price wise, it is rather expensive, but I understand considering that there are only a few pho places in South Orange county. My co-worker and I stopped by for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised at how good this place was! Why haven't we tried it before?! It was around 11:30am when we arrived and luckily we just beat the lunch rush. Our server, Hal, was very pleasant. They had our order out in less than 5 minutes! Great for us since we only have a half hour lunch break. :) I ordered the Veggie pho and it is delicious. Good flavor in the broth and they provided plenty of vegetables...not 90% noodle, 5% veggie, and 5% broth like some other places. Update: Their pho is still very good and the staff is ever friendly and smiling. I ordered a milk tea with boba this time around and was disappointed with the boba. It was very mushy and tasted old. Since this is one if the only locations in foothill ranch that has pho, I stopped by to get some pho to go. I was extremely impressed that my order was ready by the time I had signed the recent to finish paying. It's been a while since we've eaten Vietnamese but over the weekend Cameron and I had time for a movie date and, being peckish, we decided to hit the food court. Maison de Pho beckoned so we headed in. It's always a good sign when you wander into a restaurant and all you can hear are customers chatting in the language that matches the food type! Bonus points if it smells right and the cooks are of that ethnicity. Maison de Pho hit all the points. So we grabbed a menu and perused. After some hard decision making, I settled on the chicken curry rice noodle soup and an iced Vietnamese milk coffee while Cameron picked the BBQ pork noodle Pho. My soup broth was rich in flavour - curried but not spicy - with a lovely density to it. I could easily have just drunk the liquid! There was a decent amount of chopped greens, a lot of chicken, and of course, a lot of noddles. Easily 2 meals worth (I brought the rest home for next days lunch). The only niggle - and it's minor - was that the chicken needed a bit more flavour. I think it was cooked separately to the soup and it lacked any seasoning. Cameron's Pho was also really good. Pho comes in 2 sizes so he got the small serving (maybe it was a tad smaller than mine...) It was stuffed with greens and BBQ pork along with the noodles. He didn't bring home leftovers as there were none! Finally my coffee. Come here for the pho, specifically the ox tail pho - they have it advertised everywhere. The ox tail is stewed in the broth and gives off a deep, rich beefy flavor along with some good fat. The meat is served stripped off the bone and is very tender. Remember, ox tail is not lean, but it's definitely a nice treat every once in a while. The portions are very good and the prices are comparable with all the other places in the area. This is one of the better pho places in south county. It was a very hot afternoon and also not very busy but these folks could have at least bothered cranking up or fixing the A/C. I was sweating up a storm even before my meal was served to me. You also only get two spring rolls for an order, when most places elsewhere would give you at least four similarly-sized ones for the same price. But the spring rolls were just as I expected so I didn't complain. The coconut milk boba was also okay too.
