The truck went 193 miles before the transmission seized. From what I know now I'm so thankful it was not towed back to the shop we had the transmission repaired and it ended up in the hands of Mark and Owen at L&D transmission. I must say Mark and Owen were very professional and upfront with us what to expect and genuinely concerned for us in the situation we were in. I felt very at ease knowing they were doing the repairs to rebuild our transmission the way it should have been done from the beginning. THANK YOU, THANK YOU Mark and Owen I can't thank you enough for your honesty, professionalism and kindness. Gina Proctor and Wilfred Letourneau

I noticed when I picked the truck up that the water and fuel light was on and I thought that was a strange coincidence. Over the years this light has come on two or three times after a car wash, and it's an easy fix to clean out the water in the sensor connection. I did that and even replaced the sensor in the rear fuel water separator. The light was still on, even though the fuel looked clean, so I ended up taking it to a shop in Oak Harbor before driving to the Tetons, as that light was bothering me. It turns out the technician at Barrett had inadvertently pinched some wires that ran along the crossmember below the transmission mount when he reattached the cross number. Thus the cause of the water and fuel light. Barrett was extremely honorable and covered the cost of those wire repairs, and the shops diagnostic fee. So the only thing I was out was the cost of a water and fuel sensor and time. At the time of this post, the truck has nearly 832,000 miles as I just did a trip to Teton Valley and back to Washington and the transmission ran beautifully. The service work the technician did was otherwise perfect and this type of mistake could happen to anyone, so I do not fault Barrett and I would gladly use them again and intend to. The fact that they honored this situation without question is an indication of a shop that has integrity.

Mark assured me that they'll take an assessment of the issue and get back to me before doing any work. Later in the day I received a phone call from Mark. He shared with me the red fluid was not tranny fluid, however, the specialized coolant my duramax requires. He went on to describe that all fluid levels were appropriate and the tranny and transfer case were in fine shape. Despite feeling a bit embarrassed about not differentiating the difference between the tranny vs coolant fluids, I was extremely grateful that they did not take advantage of me and, instead, went on to show me where the issued was. Such honesty goes a long way these days. Based upon numerous recommendations from mechanics I trust and respect, and Barrett transmission's honesty (and the time they took to further investigate and show me the issue)., I'll be back with any transmission issues or maintenance needs that I might have. Thank you Mark and Cameron (the tech) for your professional and honest assistance. Charlie D, Ferndale

When my tow truck pulled up at 6:05 (they close at 6:00) they stayed behind to talk to me about what happened and were genuinely interested about the problem and getting to know the situation. The next day they provided a free diagnostic to be sure what was wrong and were very informative when they called to tell me the problem. When they diagnosed the problem (an almost destroyed timing belt) they ordered and replaced it the same day so that I was able to pick it up in less than 24 hours after I dropped it off. My car works perfectly now and I can be assured that the rest of my car is fine due to their thorough job. Pricing was as fair as it gets and more than reasonable for the job. Overall this was the best experience I have ever had with a mechanics shop and they took great care of my car. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Dave and his crew at Hyack Excel Tire saved the day!…read more We drove up from California in our brand new car to spend the holidays with out family here in Vancouver. Two days ago, the tire pressure in our right rear wheel was low. After filling and checking again overnight, we did indeed have a slow leak. We went to one of the larger tire shop chain stores, and they found a screw that had lodged near the inside edge of the tire. They said that it was in an unpatchable section of the tire, and we had to replace the tire. After taxes, it would have been $550! The major cost was in the tire, so we figured we would get the tire done closer to my in-law's place in New West so that we could just drop off the car for the day, then pick it up after it was done. We found Hyack on Yelp, and quoted a slightly lower price for the job. I brought the car in so that they could inspect it in-person. Dave took a look at the screw in the tire, and he said, "I think I can patch this." He said that he's seen this type of screw before (must be common occurrence with all the construction in New West or something) and that these were typically short, so the puncture was probably small. Dave said that he would have his guys take the tire off and look to see if they can patch it. If they couldn't, we would go with Plan B and order the new tire. We left the car for a couple hours and then Dave called and said he was able to patch it. As he suspected, it was a short screw, and the puncture on the inside was actually in the flat part of the tire where he could secure a patch. All together, $45 for the patch! Definitely saved us from replacing a brand new tire with another brand new tire! How is that for honesty? I would absolutely recommend Hyack for their reasonable prices, honesty and quick turnaround. And for the person who thinks that he can get a patch for $10, good luck. Maybe if you bought your tires from that shop, they would do it for a discount, but $10 hardly covers the labor. $45 was very reasonable. The large tire chain was going to charge us $56 and the dealership $150. Thanks Hyack! You saved our trip!
