I always see a huge line in the summer so I was intimidated to go for many years but this summer I…read morefinally saw a short line and decided to give it a try. There were only two people ordering ahead of us and two people behind us but it took about 20-30 minutes by the time we paid and got our one scoop of ice-cream in a cup. There was only one girl working at the time but I still think it took too long to get three orders of ice cream ready. The ice-cream itself was below average for a parlour. It tasted like old ice-cream that you left in the fridge for too long with bits of ice particles and uneven texture. The only nice thing about this place is the outside garden where we could eat and enjoy a beautiful day. Overall, not worth the hype and time spent in line.

Afterwards we headed straight to the Huron Street Cafe, as I wanted to give them a try before we left. I'm very glad that we did. Even with the weekend event we were seated right away. Our hostess did give immediate notice that there was a 30 min wait for orders from the kitchen, but that was fine with us since we weren't in any rush. The menu was simple with classic diner breakfast options, and the restaurant itself had a great charm. I was actually surprised at how comfortable their "wicker" chairs were, and everything was bright and clean. The staff was great too! Even with there being a rush, they handled everything with grace, humor and kindness. For sure a team working together to keep things running smoothly. When placing my order I quickly brought up my food allergies/intolerances, as I have quite a few. I was aware that they could not 100% guarantee no cross contamination, as one severe sensitivity of mine is wheat, but after choosing my safest option (The Huron Street Special), they promised to be as safe a possible. I'm happy to say that I left without having any food reactions, neither then, nor delayed onset. So big thank you to them for that! The food was served in large portions and was absolutely delicious. The pancakes are huge and fluffy, and I rather enjoyed the home fries. I would say they are fair and moderately priced. I will definitely be returning in our next visit to town.

We ended up getting a Mushroom and Bacon omellette and a Salmon Sandwich. Oh, and an extra order of bacon, just because. Both were really great. The service was extremely attentive and the staff was very friendly. Everything you would ever want in a friendly, casual, homey cafe. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual and very positive.
