The Forester Inn restaurant is one of the best places to go. Service is great, the atmosphere is great, and the prices are good. We have tried many of the dinners offered, and the salad bar is fresh. Good thing they have parking across the street from them as they get busy a lot. The waitress is attentive even when she is super busy. I recommend you give it a try. read more

Usually really like the Forrester but there is a disconnect in the carry-out ordering system. Ordered a pizza on a busy day (I get it) however, somehow the order was not keyed into the system (so i was told). The short story is when the order was placed, its a normal 30-35 minute wait and i was told 40-45 minutes on the phone (totally understandable). But to wait slightly over an hour and a half and have to pay full is unacceptable. The pizza was Just ok (not like it usually is). Ver disappointing all around. I've got quite a large family and every time we come here for dinner we're greeted with attitude, we always make sure to tip well and be as courteous as possible, but it seems to me the wait staff and the cook move at their own pace. I love finding old-school family restaurants that have high quality. I can tell you that the salad bar is small, but it is handcrafted and fresh hourly. My buddy goes here every night when he is deer hunting and he's used to some of the best food you could imagine but this place is so satisfying and such a great value that HS couldn't stay away, which is the only reason I get a chance to experience this wonderful restaurant. read more

If I could give this NO stars I would. Horrible service, dirty restaurant, sub-par wait staff and a jerk for a manager/cook! They're lucky to be the only restaurant in their area or they'd probably have no business at all. The place wasn't even half full and it took about an hour to get our food.... a salad and burger. Waitress took our order and never came back to offer silverware, drinks or water after that. Finally got our food and as I was eating the salad started pulling out brown old lettuce. The chicken in the salad was like Jerky and probably left over from the day before. Stopped eating the salad less than half way through and when the waitress finally came back I told her that I wasn't going to pay for the salad and wanted it off the bill. Took it back to the manager and he told her no since I had eaten some of it. I would have sent it back right away but didn't mix it up too see all the nasty lettuce hiding on the bottom until I ate from the top down on one side and started picking it out. The manager wouldn't come to our table to discuss so she said I had to go to his little fry kitchen to talk to him. He was adamant about not taking the salad of the bill and I said since I ate some then take half off. He told me that the lettuce was brown because it was romaine! Finally said he'd take $2 off, which was BS, but I decided to walk away at that point. Told my husband he was not to tip the waitress because of the terrible service and the crappy salad. The windows are full of spider webs and spiders, flies buzzing around the salad bar and just dirty looking in general. The only reason we tried the place was because it was a Monday and there were no other close places open.... won't ever make that mistake again!! read more

We were VERY happy with our time here. I imagine when things are back to full staff, it'll be even better. I recommend the Reuben and 100% would recommend the curly fries. Prices were great. We stopped by around noon on a Friday on our way up the Thumb for an adventure. We had the Reuben, burgers, pretzels with cheese, and curly fries. And I'd do it all again! We have been ordering & dining out at the Forester Inn in Carsonville for well over twenty years. Normally the Pizza good... tonight, not so much. My wife came gown with a "Blackened Pizza"... she called to complain & ended up talking to 2 different employees about the Pizza. They wanted her to bring back the Pizza so that they could have the employee that screwed up the first Pizza to make the new Pizza ( I'm thinking why do I want another Pizza made by this Pizza person)... & why do a need more inconvenience driving the old Pizza back! #foresterinn read more

It's kinda the only place around Jellystone and their food is good. We had it two days in a row. The menu is three pages, you will never have the same meal twice. We have been camping in the area all summer and have been meaning to give it a try. So we stopped in on the way back from the beach hoping we looked presentable enough. Lol! Very rustic decor with an old school vibe. We ordered the Lake Perch and Prime Rib both with sweet potato fries. Honestly the fries were the best ever & cooked perfectly! The fish was delicious as was the prime rib. The service was friendly so I have no idea where the bad reviews for service are coming from. We are not locals but felt like we were. service was by far below any standard allowed by a restaurant. the owner of this place must not know what he's/she's doing. it was honestly a joke. when you go to a bar or restaurant you go to be served food and drinks... it's a delicacy... we sat in an empty room for 25 minutes without our drinks even being served. I should have just walked out at that point but I figured I would give it a shot... 26 minutes later the wrong drinks were brought out and told our food couldn't be placed. place was absolutely filthy inside. I would not recommend this place to a piss poor friend. mind you this is across from a very busy travel destination. they could be making A LOT of money during summer. do not go here. read more

We camp near by and wanted to try this place. The drinks were decent. This is definitely a local hang out, we were treated so-so. We had a large group and the server looked overwhelmed so I assured her we were not in a hurry and that we would leave a good tip in hopes that we would be more welcomed. It was along meal and one item came out at a time, not big deal. Except that each time one food item came out we had to go over the order again and again. The sever wrote it all down so I am not sure what that was about. The fried foods and pizza were all ok. The place how ever was pretty dirty. The bathrooms looked like the floor/baseboards had not been cleaned in a long time. Then I walked past the kitchen......let's just say had I before I ate I don't think I would have eaten. It's very dirty and salad dressings we're sitting out not kept cold. I am just glad I didn't get sick. read more

This place used to be a bar with food and is now more of a restaurant but the ambiance hasn't changed. They've got a Moose head hanging over the bar and the pine paneling is honey gold. There is also a Carribu, a Cougar, a Bull and a Jack Ass (Well, they say there's one in every bar.) plus some stuffed birds as well. A snowmobiler's favorite haunt in season. If you looked up "Casusal" in a dictionary, this place would have their picture in there. Great for burgers, pizza, steaks, chicken, pork chops, and Friday night is all-you-can-eat fish night. It's called Walleye, but it's really Alaskan Pollock. It's great fish and I don't know why people continue to mis-name it. You can get lake perch here too, but it's usually not all-you-can-eat. On Saturday it's all-you-can-eat fried chicken! Televisions here are usually tuned in to Detroit sports, Tigers, Red Wings, Pistons or Lions. Service here is slow. You get used to it. Relax, have another drink, pretend it's 1966 and you've got no place special to go. Prices are more than reasonable, so if you've got kids, bring em. Don't let the "bar" moniker scare you off. The good - burgers are awesome, well worth the wait during busy times. The bad - after 2 visits, haven't had good service. One year ago, there was a long wait for food which is understandable. But the waitress gave our order to another table. So we had to wait another 30 minutes until that table@s burgers were ready. Today, we got our food in correct order but were overcharged for mixed drinks. When we asked, we were told it's because they wrote doubles. We did not order doubles. We stopped here as we were camping in the area. We both ordered the Walleye. It was wonderful. It was all you can eat for only $11.99 . I got so much on my original serving plate that I never had to ask for more. The coleslaw was really good as well. We went during the Covid pandemic and I am happy to say that the staff was in compliance. I would definitely suggest this place. It's an old well,worn restaurant but it's exactly what is expected from the exterior view. Please wear your mask as you enter to help make it easier on everyone. It was so loud from one area of the restaurant that everyone else in the place had to yell just so the person next to them could hear them. My family dine at the forester inn when we are in Port Sanilac camping. The food is decent, the service can be a bit slow though. You definitely can't be in a hurry when you come here. We drove almost two hours to come to the Drive In movies. We knew we'd stop some place for dinner but the choices were small and even worse more places were closed because it's a holiday weekend. So, we found this place open and quite busy. We were seated right away and it was pretty much downhill from there. My fiancé asked if they had Coke and Pepsi and he was told it is "cola". The place wasn't super clean, but I've seen worse. We ordered pretty quick and he got the salad bar and chicken tenders, I got a cod sandwhich with fries and our daughter got Bosco sticks. Simple enough. The salad bar was out of lettuce for at least 20 minutes. We waited almost 50 minutes to receive our food and another 15 for our daughters. She was starving and not a happy camper by the time she got her food. Salad plates never got cleared. She never asked us how our food was and never refilled our cola. My daughter also had no water by the time she got her meal and then she said she would bring her a bottled water "no charge to you" instead because she had to wait so long. Ummm thanks I guess? There as another 5 min wait just to cash out. I def won't be returning! The food was mediocre at best- the fries were like Arby's, so decent and next best was the bosco sticks. The tenders were pale and not appealing and my fish was totally soggy but the tarter sauce (served on the side) was good. read more
