Slow service. Locals were helped first despite arriving after me. No apologies when I questioned it. Wouldn't stop again.

I was down in Athens for Dad's weekend at Ohio U. Found Gigi's on Yelp and took my 2 college kids…read more(freshman and a junior) to try it out. Neat diner about 10-12 min outside of town. While we had to wait a bit, the food was sooooo worth it! It was our sever's birthday, and she was actually wearing a Happy Birthday sash. I ordered French Toast, my son ordered Chocolate Chip Pancakes, and my daughter ordered a Chicken sandwich. We also ordered a bowl of Monkey bread for all 3 of us to share. All food was enjoyed and devoured. Towards the end of the meal our server was serenaded by the whole restaurant and given a cupcake 4 her birthday. Pretty cool. I would recommend the food and the experience!!

Gigi's is a bulwark of what are otherwise limited dining options in The Plains. Breakfast with…read moreloads of hearty traditional options is what it means for me. Small but ample dining room, welcoming staff, and chalk full of locals. And of course probably best known for the local boy made good, Joe Burrow, captured with all manner of LSU and Bengals paraphernalia as decorations. The Joey B wall just to the right above the counter is especially classic. In the NFL off season in particular you can get lucky and see him there and of course his parents too who are local community mainstays. Only point of note I'd share that isn't a full endorsement is to go sandwich on a biscuit. One shouldn't necessarily expect a lot in this format if you choose not to sit, but my recent visit it was a pretty mushy and small biscuit.

We ate here several times while staying at the cabins. Dinner first night- I had the tortellini,…read moreSweetie had crab cakes. Kid K had a side Caesar salad. All were very good. Service was great. However, our waitress informed us that a big party was overwhelming the kitchen and we did indeed wait quite a while to get our food. Bread and our smaller items coming out before the mains helped us get through, and luckily we weren't in a hurry to get anywhere. They gave us free desserts- also very tasty. The place is open and relaxing. Light music playing that turned out to be soft covers of 80s and 90s pop songs. The staff as a whole were friendly and professional. Had breakfast a couple of times (free with a stay) and again, excellent service, great food, and a pleasant atmosphere. They had pancakes and bacon both times, I had oatmeal one day (with pretty much any topping you want) and a muffin that was delicious. Next time I had steak and eggs, and wow. I got scrambled even though those aren't usually my pick, figuring a good restaurant would do them better than a diner or than I do at home, and I was right. Fluffy and flavorful. Piled on top of the steak (thick and cooked to my spec) with horseradish sauce. That was milder than I expected, and I did add hot sauce (they brought a couple to the table.) Also home fries, again very good. We had reservations for each visit, but they didn't seem packed, just mostly full. Prices, outside of the comps, are pretty reasonable for the quantity and quality. Parking is a bit of a walk from the building, not an issue on a perfect early fall day but could be in worse weather. We will definitely be back.
