I was thrilled to upgrade the crankset on my fixed gear bike, but there aren't many shops that work on them anymore. Fortunately, I met Kevin, who was enthusiastic about helping me! He was very responsive, guiding me through different chainrings, crankarms, and bottom brackets. After I made my selections, he quickly ordered the parts and explained the pricing clearly. I've owned e-bikes and have taken them to 3 different repair shops. This was my 4th and won't ever go to another shop. Not only did they repair my two bikes they repaired and fixed the horrible jobs from the previous guys. Those other guys are in Garden Grove and Bellflower. They even cleaned, shined and buffed out the bikes where they look like new and ride better than they ever have. Don't think twice about this place. They are genuinely great guys who care about the quality of work they put out. This review is one of my only reviews but I've never felt more compelled to writing a great review. read more

I went to this bike shop on a Sunday mainly because they are one of very few shops that is open on Sunday near me and that's one of the only days I can do fun stuff! Aaron P spent at least an hour with me, letting me ride various bikes around the lot, answering all my questions and helping me decide which bike would best suit my needs. He kept in touch with me via text and email during the 3 weeks or so it took for my brand new bike to arrive (it was out of stock in their store and I wasn't in a hurry). Aaron referred me to another shop for a bike fit as they don't currently offer that in their store and I had an incredible experience there too (check out Two Wheeler Dealer--ask for Tim). Two of the mechanics working there on the few occasions I stopped by, seemed very knowledgeable and efficient. I would highly recommend this business!!!! read more

I knew nothing about road bikes until I went to this shop. I had purchased this bike on offerup used which I originally thought needed a derailleur tune but turned out it needed a lot more things. So I took the bike to Main Street Cyclery and had them tune and inspect the bike which costed around 100 dollars. Fast forward a few days later I received a text saying the bike was ready for pickup. Upon arrival I entered the shop and the guy working on had told me that there was an issue with the front derailleur and crankset stating that I needed a Shimano instead of a SRAM since every other part was Shimano and SRAM and Shimano are not compatible. Additionally, they also applied installed new front and rear brake cables because they also stated that they were too weak and unsafe. I decided to send the bike back to get the right crank installed so that it was safer. About a week passed by, I get another text saying that it was ready for pickup. So I head over to the shop once again to see the bike. The total with the inspection and tune, Shimano Crankset, new front derailleur, labor, and new brake cables totaled to 315 dollars. So I paid the shop and also asked for a bottle of dry chain lube which the shop provided with a cash coupon since I had already spent so much money fixing the bike. They also took off one of the labor charges making the total cost to fix the bike a little less than it was originally supposed to be. Lastly, another week passes and I realized the handle bars were a little too low for me. So I purchased a handle bar extender, took apart the stem, and attempted to fix it my self. Unfortunately I unscrewed the compression screw which made all the compressing pieces fall into the fork making it so I could not put the main thread back in. So I did what any other person would do and took it back to the shop. Luckily the shop called 2 days later saying that everything was going to work, and it was a super easy repair. They charged me only 20 bucks since it was very simple. The shop also recommended me a safer extender, but I ended up returning the safer one since it did not work for me too well. Even during the installation process of the new one, Pat (one of the bike mechanics) was super helpful, walked me through the whole process of reassembling the handle bars. Overall I highly recommend this shop because they took really good care of the bike and made sure that it was safe and comfortable to ride. Although the price is quite costly, I think it's best to make sure that everything works properly and guarantee safety. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. This location took advantage of my elderly father. He went in for his bike for some new tires, tubes and chain. He was originally quoted roughly $150-$180 for what he asked. When he returned to pick up his bicycle, that is 10 years old and was $500, he ended up paying $380. More than double what he was quoted for the work that was covered. He was charged $80 for a tune up... when he already paid for the install of a chain, tires, crankset etc. individually. When he returned, he was told the original quote was just labor, not parts included. I can't remember the last time I went to a place that was a shop that performed a service, ie mechanic, that did not quote me on parts and labor or at least clearly state that the quote was only for labor, parts excluded. read more

This is a 5 star establishment. I worked with the owner Paul throughout the entire process. I had no knowledge about bikes but I knew I wanted one. He asked the correct questions and showed me the perfect bike for me. I knew he was being honest and was trying to find the perfect bike versus making a good sale because the first bike he showed me (which is the one I ended up with) was a "knock off" of the more expensive version. He wasn't the typical salesman who started with the highest priced bike and worked his way down as far as pricing. His prices are in line with online stores that I researched. Main Street Cyclery was near the bank I use so I walked in and talked with Dave about some tune ups. He was knowledgeable and I thought highly of him. Brought my bike for a tune up to keep it in good riding shape (MTB). The first week they text me saying it needs a new cable for the rear derailleur so I agree. Two weeks after I dropped it off I come in to pick it up after they texted me it was ready for pickup. I pay $200 roughly for the device and ride it out the shop. Right away the chain it skipping so I walk it back in and they said the derailleur cog is broken and they must have missed it. I was upset that no one rode the bike to test it before giving it back to me. Paul states that he will have a better bike mechanic fix it and look at it all around and apologized for the inconvenience . Another two weeks go by (by this time I'm frustrated that it's taking a month to fix my bike) and I pick it up and seems to be in a good working condition. I take it to the Fullerton loop (pretty easy ride) and the chain keeps falling off and skipping again so I end the ride short. I really wished for more from my local bike shop Main Street Cyclery but unfortunately I have lost trust that they will do quality work on my bike. I had a bulge in the rear wheel of my Masi Premiare and needed to replace the tire and tube. I decided to bring it Main Street Cyclery because it was within walking distance and had pretty good reviews on Yelp. I thought my bike was in decent shape, but when I discussed price of the tire repair with one of the guys, he said the tire repair service would be included with a $90 tune up. Sold. I had dropped it off on a Saturday afternoon expecting to pick it up before the shop closed the next day, but that would be the last time I saw my bike for the next week and a half. Sunday before close of business, I called the shop and spoke to the mechanic working on my bike. He told me a cable was stuck and he was going to have another mechanic look at it on Monday. I asked if I should expect it on Monday and he said it might take a few days. I had no problem waiting a few days, but was eager to get in a nice long ride that weekend. When I hadn't heard anything from the shop by Saturday (6 days later), I called the shop again and was told they couldn't fix the cable issue and had sent my bike to their Seal Beach store. Seriously? Now I couldn't just pick up the bike and take it to another mechanic who could handle the job. Upset that they hadn't bothered to call me to let me know what was going on, I asked the guy to call the other shop and tell me when I should expect my bike to be worked on. He said it was the next one to go on the stand and it should be back in Cypress by close of business Sunday. I said fine and asked that he call me with an update after the bike was worked on. Of course, there was no call that day from the shop and I called near the close of business the following day (day 8) to find out the bike was still in Seal Beach and the cable hadn't been fixed. I asked when the bike was going to be returned to Cypress and was told it would be there, fixed, by close of business Monday (day 9). I asked if he could call me back when it was ready...and get this, no call. Tuesday I couldn't get anyone on the phone at the shop and so I just left a voicemail saying I was coming over to pick up my bike. I got to the shop and my bike was there with the cable in place. At checkout, I spoke to the owner, Paul. He went over my bill and intended to charge me for the tire replacement service that I was told would be included in the tune up. I told him his staff said it was included and he proceeded to tell me that's not customary for his shop or any other, but he honored it. I then proceeded to tell him his shop was the worst shop I've ever had a bike repair done with and pretty much gave him the run down of how his team dropped the ball several times throughout the 10 days my bike was worked on for a simple tune up. To his credit, he listened patiently and said he would take it up with his team (I gave him a star for that). My bike was obviously worked on, but I didn't notice much difference in the ride. As for not throwing in a tire replacement service when doing a tune up, I honestly haven't been to a shop that hasn't offered that. I won't be returning. It's farther away, but I've had better (and more timely) work done on my bike at Papa Wheelie. read more

Took a risk going out and coming to this place. Wasn't worth it, really. I walk in around 3pm on a Friday and find three people behind the counter. One person asks what I came in for and walks over to show me the stock. One product to choose from, but the employee tried to be helpful, saying the shop can order whatever I need. After a few minutes, as this employee continues to talk, I realize I'm looking at his face. He was not wearing a mask. He then starts to cough. Next, I realize the two other people behind the counter were also not wearing masks. Fortunately, I had my mask on. I would've walked out right away if I had immediately registered that no store employee was following COVID precautions. He kept trying to chat and ask about my bike, but at this point I couldn't get out of their fast enough. Probably wouldn't come back to this location and would only stop into the Seal Beach spot for emergencies. PS- Supporting local business is cool but only when they are doing things right for their community. Also, I find it weird when bike shops offer to special order things as if I am unaware of the internet. I may have still bought the item had they had it in stock. TLDR; Three people working without masks and no product stock. Employee coughing as he was trying to talk to me. Not COVID-friendly and I felt unsafe. read more

I came in looking for a saddle upgrade to my road bike that my father-in-law gifted me a month back. Given that he routinely does double century rides, the setup and components on the existing bike were a bit too aggressive for me/I was also not familiar with how to ride correctly and set it up for me. Paul was extremely helpful in giving me a ton of beginner tips in what to look for, how to make those adjustments to make it more comfortable, while not trying to push me to buy anything. Given this is a whole new world for me, I found it extremely helpful to have a bike shop in the area that was so eager to help even though I wasn't buying anything at the time. I bought my wife a electra townie for our anniversary. She loved it and then I wanted one. so she bought me one also. The bikes are really comfortable and easy to ride. The staff was very help full . We did have a little issue a couple weeks later . They fix it under the warranty with no problem . We are really happy with our bikes and the experience we received at main cycle . I finally got around to trying out the used ENGWE e-bike I got off Craigslist some time ago. Both tires were flat and one valve was barely visible and the other didn't seem fully extended. The rear one also had barely any room to fit a pump fitting onto. I stopped by Main Street Cyclery and Aiden was very patient & helpful. He helped me unload it off my pickup and got it onto the lift where he got both valves out and fully extended at the proper angle. He also suggested a couple unique style pumps that had a smaller / flatter fitting as there was still a very narrow space to work with on the rear tire. I had spent half the day trouble shooting this issue and it was nice of Aiden to have me in and out and with a perfect pump at a reasonable price within 10 minutes. Thanks Aiden! read more

I love a local business. I love a local community supporting one another. I've lived in cypress for a long time and have seen some of the coolest shops with great owners to back them. This shop has a seal beach location and a cypress location. I got to check this shop out pretty closely and meet with the owner. This shop is a full service shop. Bike. Parts. Workshop. Etc.. On top of that they have huge plans for the future and bringing in mountain bikes and I'm ecstatic. These guys have been in the cypress community for longer than I have. I am thrilled to have this local shop in my backyard. I'm seriously disappointed in this other Yelp review for such a harsh review especially during this time. However I've been by this place several times. The workers have always had their masks on or put them on when customers walk in at least every time I've been there.
