Sunday 11am looking for Brunch after Church but only the lunch meat 3 was available and what a treat! 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed the service and hospitality of this great family restaurant. Chicken n Dressing for all! Too good to pass up. MacnCheese, purple hull peas, green beans, fried okra, yeast rolls and Yes awesome cornbread. They even threw in peach cobbler. It does well for what it is . A no frill country diner to get some Southern cooking . It is worth a 5 * sorry but no but it does deserve high stars. It's better than fast food for sure. Why? Service was super fast , the older waitress was working her tail off taking orders, serving, and even running the register. I got grits, pepper gravy, and sausage . My husband got 3 meats (sausage, bologna and crispy bacon) (bacon done right not floppy), homemade biscuits, scrambled eggs, and the best farm grown sliced tomatoes. They gave my husband the tallest cup of sweet tea I've ever seen anywhere. They also have for lunch a meat and 3 vegetable plate or even veggie plate. We plan on coming back for that. Unfortunately the floor was a bit sticky by the restrooms and just one woman stall. Hence the 4 * rating. It's open very early in the morning while most everything is not . We were glad it was walkable distance from Cornell's auto shop. My husband's truck had to be regenerated. It's a diesel and the ash had clogged the filter ugh. We visited the Main Street Café in Clanton Alabama (613 2nd Ave N) today for lunch. They are opened Sunday thru Friday mainly from 5:30 am to 2 PM. They serve breakfast up until 10:30 am. They offer many choices for breakfast and offer menu and Meat & 2/3 for lunch. They usually have a daily lunch special also. The prices are very reasonable especially for the portion size you get. It is a seat yourself place and if you are looking for modern style, you're in the wrong place. If you are looking for a mom and pop small town feel, you hit the jackpot! We chose the meat & three today along with the daily special of buffalo chicken wrap. For the meat & three, we had pot roast, turnip greens, pinto beans, and butter peas. The meat and three comes with dessert and bread. For the wrap, you have a choice of grilled or fried chicken. It comes with fries and a drink. For a dollar more you can add a make your own salad from the salad bar. The wrap and fries were awesome. I think I'll try the Nashville hot wrap on my next lunch visit. The pot roast was nice and tender and well-seasoned. The vegetables were good but the turnip greens were a little sweet for our taste. We arrived a little after 11 am and once seated, our server greeted us and took our drink order. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu items. Once we placed our order, it arrived at the table about 5 minutes later. Our server checked on us regularly. The Main Street Café seems to do a very large take-out amount. Dozens of customers entered the restaurant just for take-out while we were there. Parking is a first come first serve on the narrow two-way street in a business area. You might have to circle the block a couple of times to get a parking space close. You can check their Facebook page for the daily lunch specials. We were driving down towards the beach and decided to get off I 65 at Clanton. We were delighted by how much we enjoyed this restaurant. We highly recommend it and look forward to going again. read more

Anyone who gives this place less than 5 stars is nuts and you shouldn't trust them. I jest but not really. They are open for breakfast and lunch only and when we visited we scooted in at about 15 minutes before the posted close time, which is NOT my style, but these were special circumstances. My grandmother wanted THIS restaurant and we were only in town for that day, so I wanted to make sure she got it :) The staff was very gracious even with our tardy arrival. So, they were out of nearly everything I wanted to try on our visit, so I ordered a plate full of second choices. And those second choices were so amazing that I felt like calling Guy Fieri right then and there to report my find. I got chicken casserole, purple hull peas, steamed cabbage, and coleslaw. And every piece of that was the best example of the dish I'd ever eaten. Simple, cooked perfectly, seasoned well. It wasn't the fanciest place I'd eaten that weekend, but it was the best I believe. It seriously tasted like my grandmother was in the back cooking. So, the nicest thing about this trip is that my grandmother is one heck of a cook, or was. She lives in an assisted living facility now and misses cooking like she used to. But this lunch took her back to a time when we'd get together for potlucks and family reunions, if only for this day. If a restaurant can transport a person like this, it deserves 5 stars. read more

Main Street Cafe is like going to your Mom's house for lunch. They also are open for breakfast. Their food is delicious. You can come and dine in or take out. They always have at least 2 choices of meat and several vegetables to choose from, plus cornbread or rolls and a dessert. They treat you like family and the place is always clean. If you need to eat quickly and get on with your day service is fast. Thursday is Chicken and Dressing day, and it is home made and delicious! read more

A great place for lunch! This lovely little down home cafe serves breakfast and lunch 6 days a week. They feature a meat and three that comes with bread, tea or water, and a dessert for lunch as well as veggie plates and menu items. Their food is delicious. Check for daily offerings because they do change. Some of my favorites are Chicken Dressing (Thursday's), green beans, squash casserole, Cole slaw, fried okra, potato salad, and bread pudding. You really can't make a bad choice. The cafe has a beautiful mural inside and a friendly staff. This is a city hub. You are likely to see friends, family, and city officials. It feels like you are eating at a friend's house. They offer to go and curb side service. Come early for lunch. They are usually busy and favorites run out quickly. read more

The food was good. The coffee was strong. Ice water was served automatically. The service was not fast, but the dining room was full. The staff was friendly. The ambiance seems to be friendly and old school There was margarine, jelly, creamer, sugar...most anything you might need, already on the table. AMAZING FOOD!!! We stopped for breakfast and everything delicious! They have a FULL breakfast menu for incredible prices. Everything tastes homemade. The biscuits were soft and some of the best I've ever had. Hot cakes were large, soft, and yummy. I got a ham, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich and ate it before I could take a photo. We were on the way home from Florida when the hunger bug hit. We were coming up on Clanton so I checked Yelp to find a meat & three. We decided on the Msin Street cafe. We were so glad we did. I had the chicken and dressing with okra and slaw. I chose the chicken & dressing because I don't like poet-gooey dressing but the chicken that is usually laid on top of the dressing is good. Well....the description should have said chicken IN dressing. I thought I was going to die....I was so hungry. I tried a bite. That led to another then another until it was gone. It was so good. The okra and Coke slaw brought back wonderful memories of our family reunions when my grandmother and aunts would.bring "dish" to the table. This is the type of place off the beaten path that hits the spot. Cute old town area. Wait staff was home grown and very helpful. I had meat loaf, purple hill peas and coke slaw. The meat loaf is not your average thrown together meat and egg. It was hearty and delicious the coke slaw was finely grated and just superb and the peas even though they were dried that chef knows how to make them sing. Looking for a Sunday lunch stop on our way through and not a lot was open. Found this downtown cafe and stood at the door several minutes waiting on a table. Once we figured out you seat yourself, when a table opened up we joined with the couple behind us and took it. No official menu, just a list of what was available and you could order 1 meat with 2 or 3 veggies, or a veggie plate. Banana pudding included. Everything was just good country cooking, well seasoned, and like eating at Grandmas, if your Grandma was a great country cook. Feeling jipped on the hamburger steak . This was not $8.99 worth of food. Very very disappointed. I could have ordered a hot hamburger for less money and gotten more meat. So if you are out there and wondering which to order go with the whole hot hamburger not the hamburger steak. read more

If you want a cheeseburger casserole for lunch than this is the place for you. I did not have that option, but the "meat and three" included chicken tenders or salmon patties as options for that special. Cream potatoes come with gravy, just how you would want it. Other options for veg included green beans, fried okra, purple hull beans, or tomato casserole. The veg are cooked just how I would expect in the south - until they have no more color. read more
