This used to be a great deli. The former owners, Galle's, had a nice little sub shop with a loyal customer base. This used to be a go to spot of mine. As a kid, all the other kids in the neighborhood didn't call it "Galle's Deli" or "Mainline Deli", it was "THE" Deli and everyone knew what you were talking about. I have fond childhood memories of this place, yet, I can't bring myself to go back. Current mngmt has run this place into the ground.
My last visit, the parking lot was empty, I wanted to run in and get a beverage real quick. I walked in, 2 older, heavier cashier women behind the counter sitting down. I walked to the back of the store, grabbed my drink and walked the entire length of the store back to the counter. In my round trip, neither one bothered to at least stand up. I slammed my bottle on the counter as if to get their attention, still nothing. I waited thirty seconds more before leaning over the counter to see what it was that they were doing that was so important. One was on the phone. The other was sitting there, staring in the opposite direction of me as if intentionally ignoring me. I almost said something when one noticed me gawking at them and found the energy to stand up, push 2 buttons and extend her hand to receive my money. God forbid they had to do any work. Geez, she probably burned 10 calories doing all that. She probably sat back down and stuffed her face with a hoagie to recoop.
I think their once loyal customer base were all waiting to abandoned sinking ship, they just needed an alternative, anything. Now that the new gas station wawa-style mart across the street opened, I think this places days are numbered. read more
