Driving around a few days after the hurricane, we discovered that Main 101 was fully functional. This was our first visit with an already full parking lot. This place is so cute! The decor is perfectly placed. I love the art on the walls, the separate seating area and bar area as well. The fixtures are beautiful! There was a woman singing popular songs but in a chill style, very talented! We ordered drinks and were brought fresh bread and their signature basil butter which was amazing! The service was top notch from start to finish! Franchesca was our server and she was great!! All servers work together as a team. The owner greeted us and checked on us midway through dining and was welcoming and friendly. We ordered a Greek salad and a Caesar salad and I am in love with their dressing! We decided to split an order of fried shrimp with fries and onion rings. I'm not sure if they make their own tartar sauce or not but it has a really good flavor! The onion rings have a great batter and are perfectly cooked! I enjoyed the batter that the shrimp were done in as well. It provided a good accompaniment to the juicy shrimp. We were too full for desert but will look forward to it next time we visit! We've found our new local, favorite restaurant and glad we did!

I've eaten here several times over the years, and I'm way late to the party with my review of Main 101. First, you will always see the owner. I've seen him wait tables, bus tables, serve as the host and (on my most recent visit) tend the bar. In my experience, when the owner is present, everything tends to go off without a hitch. Ignore the industrial exterior appearance. Main 101 is akin to a prohibition-era speakeasy or the Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy opens the black & white door to reveal a world of color. When you walk through the doors here, the transformation is instant -- a wonderfully pleasing dining room with plenty of light woods and linen napkins on every table. It's dark enough for a date night, and light enough for a regular dinner. The place is immaculately clean, and the staff is dressed to the nines. Service here has always been good. In the evening, you might be entertained with live instrumental (not-too-loud) music, such as my party was on my most recent visit. Check the menu for yourself, but I would consider it to be "American/Continental." Sure, there are (Italian) pasta dishes and (French) desserts, but there are also burgers and fries, and really good fried Gulf shrimp. No matter how you categorize the menu, it's diverse ... and that's great for groups (or families) with different tastes. On my most recent visit, I ordered the appetizer deviled eggs w/ fried oysters; three others ordered a spinach flatbread; two had a bowtie pasta dish; one had a spinach and shrimp salad, while another had a burger and fries. In other words, there's something for everybody at Main 101. Finally, this place accommodates reasonably-sized groups. Three times I have been here with office staff celebrating retirements and promotions. In all three instances, Main 101 quickly adjusted tables so that 10-15 of us could break bread. Without a doubt, Main 101 is the best all-around restaurant in La Porte. It's also worth the drive for folks who might live a few miles away.

I tried Main 101 Grill and Bar for lunch. The restaurant wasn't very busy, so we opted to sit at the bar. I had the spinach salad, one of my favorite dishes. Unfortunately, this one not so much. It was very bland, and a mix of many flavors. The warm bacon dressing felt out of place on the salad in particular and tasted too much like bacon grease. The pan seared chicken had an overall great flavor. I loved the white wine sauce. One of the things that stood out about Main 101 was the attentiveness of our bartender. It made the experience so much better overall. It was a quiet restaurant with a small bar.

The hostess/waitress was very professional. There was no wait, since there was only one other table (of 4) seated at 6:30 on a Friday night. The cocktails were very good. The menu was simple and elegant sounding, and if the food had matched the descriptions in the menu the dinner would have been better. We had the flatbread, sweet potato enchiladas, smashed potatoes and crackling kale. Of those, the kale was by far the best, and coincidently? the closest to the actual description on the menu. It was missing the seeds, the salt from which would have helped the sweetness of the dressing. the flatbread had good flavor, but whatever can they opened for the 'brisket' needed some more time regenerating it's moisture. potatoes were decent. enchilada's were very plain. Some heat from something - but no salt or other spices. The mismatch was what was striking. When reading the menu, it seemed we were going to have a terrific dinner. The reality of the food was not nearly as good.

The strip mall has a Thai restaurant, Chipotle, Raising Canes, and Urban Bird. When I googled Urban Bird and found this location in Deer Park I knew I needed to try it. The reviews on Google were so-so, but my experience was pretty positive. There was no line and the chick ringing me up was nice. The menu is different and it doesn't readily show the meatless tenders. It's written in very tiny letters with an (*) next to it. I had to ask the chick about them. She said that it's not on the menu, but once requested you can order it. I didn't care for that since I need to know the quantity of what I'm ordering and it would have been nice to see the pricing too. I chose the BBQ and mild hot for the seasoning. I asked if she can douse the tenders in maple sriracha or add it to the side. Of course, they didn't and didn't even include it on the side neither. The only location that seems to get it right was in San Marcos, TX. The food came out quickly less than 10 minutes of ordering. The food was hot until I got home. It was very nice touch to my stomach after I cut my finger deep enough to receive stitches. I slept like a baby thanks to Urban Bird's delicious meal!

The manager even came to the table next to us and straightened the silverware then walked off. So, I will share our experience with all of you guys. Here goes: +Our server got 5-STARS. Nick was very attentive and tried to make things right--which was impossible. +The restaurant is very nicely appointed, and it looks over the marina. - The food--everything served--was inedible even if one person did eat their overcooked fish dish. The Lobster Bisque was clearly plated early so it arrived at the table with a film on top and was warm not hot. I sent it back and it came out warm again! My husband was hungry so ate the bisque anyway. A salmon dish came out way over cooked. My husband ordered the Rack of Lamb medium rare. When served it looked like little lollipops. When he tried to cut the lamb it was so burned that the bone broke. The meat was well done burned. We left there and finally had dinner at another restaurant. I honestly would've preferred to have my leftovers from brunch than the dinner we had here. It was a Monday and they were not busy AT ALL so we knew that our service should be top notch... and it was! However, we stood around at the hostess stand for about 3-4 minutes before we even saw the hostess. She asked if we had reservations - which we did - and sat us immediately after asking if we'd prefer a booth or a table. We opted for a table and while my husband had no issues, I found the chairs to be uncomfortable. It could be because I have short legs, but either way... that's just personal preference and has no effect on the rating of my review. Our server, Miguel, was great! He was helpful and attentive, and he even took a few pictures of us for our anniversary. He had some recommendations and took the time to answer any questions. 5/5 stars for him. The food was kind of the let down here. I'm the kind of person who looks at pictures, reads reviews, looks into places to see where to set my expectations, etc. I'm not a picky eater whatsoever so I knew exactly what I was walking into... or so I thought. They give you bread and oil as an appetizer. Usually this is delicious, but there was some seasoning in it that tasted really weird. Thankfully it was only in one side of the dish so we just avoided that particular spice and ate around it. The artichoke Claremont was nasty. I love artichokes and I was excited to try this. My husband was hesitant from the beginning and I wish we would've gotten something else. The hollandaise was thick and chunky, the artichoke wasn't tender except for the very deep inside of it. The heart was the only part that I somewhat enjoyed. My husband didn't like any of it. Our entrees were good. My husband got a Caesar Salad and Gumbo and I got the Opus Pasta. He was very happy with his food and while mine was good, I ended up eating the asparagus by itself instead of with the pasta because I liked the pasta better with no asparagus. The dessert was good. 5/5 - no notes. Will I come back? Probably not unless someone else wants to go for a birthday or something. I had an enjoyable evening with my husband at Opus, but I did not particularly enjoy the food and I wouldn't put this high on my list of places to go.

I have been to many omakases in the past, but be wary: this dining experience lasted almost 3 hours before we even headed for dessert. I was getting pretty tired with average 20-30 min wait between each courses, but perhaps this was because it was a private event and not the typical speed of his tasting menus? Parking was also a bit challenging as there is no big sign or indication of where the restaurant is. I look forward to being back at another time when the wait in between courses may be less.
