Teaching: classes are structured and run on time. Teachers are fantastic and patient, especially with new students. Most of the classes are paired off in groups which means individual instruction and supervision is minimal so unless you're looking for something more formal with extremely tailored feedback, a private session is likely better versus a group setting. Other Comments: this was likely a one-off incident, but at a class I attended. I was disappointed with the assistant (Stephanie). As the class was winding down and desserts were being handed, for some reason, she served herself and ate before completing distribution so there were several attendees who didn't receive their desserts (which they paid for!). It was bizarre and unprofessional, which was weird given that she had been helpful and attentive throughout the class so I don't know what happened. She also seemed not to have budgeted well and hadn't purchased enough ingredients, especially for the dessert, which may be another reason for why we ran out so fast at this particular class.

Did you know macarons are gluten-free?…read more I took a macaron making class at The Gourmandise School, and it was quite fun & informative. Seeing the process on how those delectable treats are made, gave a greater appreciation each time I wolf one down. Clemence was a great instructor, patient with newbies, explaining things simply & gracefully. I thought creating the unique fillings would be the most daunting task, but they came out great. Located on the 3rd floor of Santa Monica Place, the classes at The Gourmandise School are the perfect opportunity for those intimidated by pastry-making & cooking. I had an absolute blast, and recommend everyone scheduling a future class at The Gourmandise School.

My partner and I took this cooking class as a date experience. While our chef was truly wonderful,…read morekind, welcoming, and very professional, the overall class didn't meet our expectations for the price. The class structure made it hard to learn honestly. instead of cooking step by step together, all instructions were given at once and we were left to cook independently, which was overwhelming and difficult to remember details like which ingredients to add/when, how long to cook things for and proper technique, especially for beginners. A power outage that required sharing burners added to the disorganization. We were also surprised to be required to share ingredients (including raw meat) with someone we didn't know across from us, which felt awkward for an expensive date experience. There was no clear wrap up at the end, and people began eating and leaving without much direction. Again our chef was great, and we enjoyed the stories and history behind the dishes, but overall the cooking lesson experience didn't match the cost or the hands on learning we were expecting.

This year our company contacted LA Food Works and did a team building event. LA Food Works…read morespecializes in group cooking classes and the entire event lasted about 3~4 hours. Rose is the event organizer and everyone met at her house at 10 AM. After a warm reception and a quick introduction, we quickly split into different teams and I was assigned to the Creamy White Bean and Fennel Casserole station. The staff was very helpful and I just simply followed staff's instructions. Everyone pretty much finished the cooking by 12 PM and we were able to enjoy fruits of our labor! *** Menu *** * Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Chicken Stuffed with Mixed Herb Pesto * Arugula Salad with Candied Pine Nuts and Parmesan Dressing * Roasted Broccoli with Pumpkin Seeds, Pecorino and Gremolata * Creamy White Bean and Fennel Casserole * Lemon Souffle Cake with Macerated Mixed Berries Personally I liked arugula salad the best and my least favorite dish was lemon souffle cake (too sweet). Rose even emailed a digital copy of the recipe to everyone the following week! Overall it was a great team building experience and we also did a murder mystery right after our lunch (different company - not related to LA Food Works).

Unbelievable Who turns down business?…read moreI called 5 times a day for the last 3 days and left several voicemails. I dragged 4 kids here (half hour drive) to catch someone to help me book a birthday and they say they're in the middle of the class and closed the door on my face. Not closed- slammer. I said I want to talk to someone for a minute they said no we are busy and slammed the door. Is this somewhere I want to spend close to a grand and bloom a parry at??? Absolutely not!

Definitely deserving of 5 stars!…read more My friend and I came a little late, but Chef Liz welcomed us with a big smile. We put on our aprons, washed our hands, and quickly got seated to begin our group lesson on knife sharpening and vegetable chopping. She and Chef Adam even walked around to make sure we were doing everything properly and not cutting our fingers off. What I thought was really neat was that Chef Liz had a mirror on the ceiling to provide an aerial view of what she was doing at her station! The menu was great. We had lemon berry scones, quiches, bell pepper and leek hashbrowns, bread pudding, and an omelette bar! Chefs Liz and Adam were very organized and had each station prepared with all the ingredients. They had all the instruments needed to create a truly delicious brunch feast. I will definitely be back to try one of Chef Liz and Chef Adams classes in the near future!
