Our teacher was fantastic -- informative, patient, encouraging, and always so helpful. We learned essential cooking techniques, kitchen basics, and so many delicious recipes that I'll continue making at home. The class itself was equally special because we had such a great group of students and truly enjoyed learning and cooking together each week. I will genuinely miss this class and look forward to taking more classes at LA Cooking School in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their cooking skills in a fun and welcoming environment!

Teaching: classes are structured and run on time. Teachers are fantastic and patient, especially with new students. Most of the classes are paired off in groups which means individual instruction and supervision is minimal so unless you're looking for something more formal with extremely tailored feedback, a private session is likely better versus a group setting. Other Comments: this was likely a one-off incident, but at a class I attended. I was disappointed with the assistant (Stephanie). As the class was winding down and desserts were being handed, for some reason, she served herself and ate before completing distribution so there were several attendees who didn't receive their desserts (which they paid for!). It was bizarre and unprofessional, which was weird given that she had been helpful and attentive throughout the class so I don't know what happened. She also seemed not to have budgeted well and hadn't purchased enough ingredients, especially for the dessert, which may be another reason for why we ran out so fast at this particular class.

It was an interesting event and I'm glad to be part of it - thx to groupon…read more Too bad it sprinkled thru out the day and it forced a lot of people to be inside the covered bungalow at the Ecole de Cuisine Pasadena (Housed in Chefs Center). I somehow expected this to be an indoor event, so staying "inside" was fine with me. We tried our first plate of couscous served with your choice of vegetable, chicken and/or beef (cheek?). Each item came with its own broth over the couscous. Vegetable was my favorite one. Besides from couscous, there were other items that Chef Farid Zadi and his team served that consisted of goat and rabbit meat. But the MUST have was the BRIK. It was the best thing I ate from this festival. It was OMG good~ I regretted not getting 2 the first time I ordered because by the time I wanted another one, the line was just too long. Each brik was prepared carefully in front of us (that's why it took a long time to order). It was prepared with a thin flour sheet called warka then the chef added shrimps (marinated with lemon/lime juice) + cilantro/parsley + harissa (a chili paste) + a whole egg (each cracked right in front of us). The chef then wrapped it loosely and then fried it... the end result = a crispy + fluffy layered of some darn good stuff called the BRIK.

I'd been looking for a writing class, and was inclined to do a continuing ed class at a university. But I was sold on Writing Pad because they show you where their students get published and that their method works. I've loved my teachers Brett and Erika. The only negative is that the classes are so good, that I keep taking more and more. Kudos to Marilyn for an awesome business!

Writing Pad is one of the best kept secrets in LA. I canNOT recommend it highly enough. It has (no…read moreexaggeration!!) changed my life. I'd been struggling to get my ideas from brain to draft, had such a hard time structuring my time so I'd get things done, felt like writing without feedback was setting me back. Writing Pad solved ALL of those problems and then some. The instructors are *incredible* -- I've taken two classes with Jack Kukoda and Todd Waldman, and my scripts are eons beyond what I would have been able to accomplish alone. They are fantastic writers who have written MANY of my favorite shows (Superstore, Community, Happy Endings!!!) and I get to take a small, personalized class with them??? Sometimes people can Do but not Teach-- it is clear Writing Pad seeks instructors who excel at both. The classes are run like writers' rooms, everyone giving feedback in a constructive and serious but absolutely not intimidating way. I've also made a ton of friends from my classes and met people I'm collaborating with!! ALSO IT IS WILDLY AFFORDABLE FOR THE VALUE. BEYOND WORTH IT. I could go on forever but I won't because I sound like I'm trying to get you guys to join my cult or something (I'm just really enthusiastic and grateful, okay??), So I'll end with this: look up writing pad classes, find a teacher and course that interest you. SIGN UP. You will not regret it. 100000 stars!!!
