So my business travels brought me to Florence, KY this week. The hotel where I was staying had many chain restaurants in close proximity. Unfortunately, that gets boring. It's also kinda difficult finding a good Thai restaurant on the road. Back home, I am spoiled to have so many different choices when it comes to Asian restaurants. Well, after poking around, I found Mai Thai Restaurant. With the good reviews, I decided to come here and give it a try. The restaurant has kind of a cool vibe to it. It's got a decent-sized parking lot on the outside and the inside is clean. While here, I noticed that the staff was extremely friendly and did everything that they could to make my dining experience enjoyable. I noticed that they also had great interactions with the other customers in the restaurant. We ordered three appetizers, The chicken satay, pot stickers, and the crab puffs. The pot stickers were good and the chicken satay was perfectly prepared and juicy, not dry. I loved the peanut dipping sauce. I wasn't really a fan of the crab puffs. I thought there was too much cheese. For main entrees, I ordered the Pad See Ew (one of my all-time favorites). My friends ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp and the Garlic Chicken. The portion sizes were actually pretty good. The Pad See Ew was perfectly seasoned and the chicken was a great compliment to the noodles. I tried the Pad Thai and the Garlic Chicken an they were both dishes that I would order if I ever went back. I really wanted to try some desserts but my meal was enough to give me a food coma. We have been eating here for many years now and the food is always fresh and so delicious! The restaurant is very clean and the wait staff always does an excellent job of serving you! The menu has so many options to select from for both the Thai dishes and also sushi! We have tried a good amount of the large menu and we have never had a dish that we didn't enjoy! Our overall favorite is definitely the spicy eggplant. Rachael loves it with tofu and also without a protein and I always get the spicy eggplant with chicken at the highest spice level! The chicken pad Thai is also amazing and our favorite soup is tom kha gai it's so tasty! We used to always get our own soup since it's so good but we usually left the restaurant stuffed so we recently starting splitting a bowl of soup as a starter! 1st time here. I work nearby and MaiTai came highly recommended. Friendly service and the chef is willing and able to make the fresh dishes Gluten Free! The pineapple fried rice is flavorful. I ordered it at a spicy level of "1" or mild but I might go for a little pop next time. It's nice to see a good sized lunch crowd. There are about 12 tables in the main dining area with seats at the bar and sushi bar too. There's a separate room with some additional seating. After being out in Kentucky for a year, I just wanted to say that this place is so LEGIT. Their Asian cuisine is on point & we go here as much as we can. It reminds me of the curries we had to get back home in San Diego. The flavors are exactly like how real Asian curries are suppose to be like. Their spice levels are true to scale. My go to is, and will always be Spicy Noodle with Beef, level 2 spicy. Their sushi rolls are delicious, and I was very impressed at the speed of service this go around. I've heard many good things about Mai Thai and finally got to try it. I ordered the veggie roll, vegetable spring rolls and fried tofu appetizer for take out. The veggie roll was very good! It had nice veggies in it, not just the usual cucumber, avocado. It has asparagus and bean sprouts (I think) - nice flavor and crunch. The spring rolls were good for your typical spring rolls. I really loved the peanut sauce that came with the fried tofu. It added great flavor to a dish that is usually a bit bland by nature (fried tofu...). I used that sauce with the spring rolls too. This place fills up quick. Within minutes of opening the parking lot was full. We got Thai tea to drink which was on par with other places we have been. Love me some Thai tea! We ordered crab wontons and a volcano roll for appetizers. They were ok but not the best compared to other places we have been to. The crab wontons had light spring roll dough with a large amount of cream cheese mixture but laced in flavor and did not care for their version of dipping sauce. The volcano roll had more rice and deep fried batter than it did stuffings. Also the batter was a little burnt and over powered the flavor of the lacking stuffings which was suppose to have three types of seafood and cream cheese topped with a eel sauce and spicy sauce. The roll was not spicy at all. So not too impressed with the appetizers but the food was another story! My wife got the Massaman curry which was very flavorful. You could tell the chicken was just boiled in the sauce rather than stir fried first and then added but once again the flavor of the curry was spot on. I got what they call Thai spicy which was stir fry made with a red curry sauce once again the sauce was very flavorful and they also had a good mixture of vegetables with it. I had chicken and steak added to it. The steak was on but not the best I have had and the chicken was the same. Once again it lacked flavor but the sauce made up for it. One thing that would help would be a more consistent cut on their pieces of chicken. Then thin slices worked well with the sauce but then you would get a larger piece that would be lacking. Over all it was still a good experience and quality food and would visit again if I happen to be in town. I am slightly critical just because we love Thai food and try the best we can find on yelp in almost every town we visit. So of the hundreds of Thai restaurants we have visited I place this place as a 6.5 on a scale 1-10. read more
