We have dined here many times over the years and have always had a great experience. Their service is wonderful, and their food is fantastic. I often get their ginger or basil fish. I'm really puzzled about how many positive reviews that Mai Tai received. Perhaps I ordered every wrong item (items that are not their specialty), its possible yet not very probable. The Thai Spring Rolls *2 skimpy pieces) were frozen, then deep fried and tasted like sawdust. The edname (misspell-sorry) was frozen and reheated as well, in my opinion. At this point, I am already in for ten dollars minimum, very disappointed and starving. I went with some fried rice (pork) and a few sushi choices. The rice was mush and the sushi was rubbery and see through, as in paper thin. I ordered a hot sake and sipped on it for a while, as I recounted just how poor my meal was and tried to find a bright spot, yet came up blank and a $42.00 bill. When I first started going there about a year and a half ago, the eatery was rarely busy. However, word of mouth has spread and you can easily expect a wait on Friday or Saturday night. If you're looking for something light yet filling, try the Beef Salad. Thin strips of marinated beef top a plate of fresh veggies that have been drizzled with a spicy lime dressing. For those who'd like to know their threshold on the Scoville scale, go for the hearty pad thai. In Mai Thai's version of the Thai classic, the ingredients are perfectly balanced with no single flavor over-powering the others. Yelp wins again. I grew up in Florence and remember when this place was a Long John Silver's. What a massive upgrade! When my wife and I walked in, it was crowded, but we were seated quickly. Even though it was tight, we didn't feel cramped. I enjoyed the setting. They have made the decor cozy and quaint, and you like being in there. We got the Chicken Pad Thai and Yellow Mango Curry. The Pad Thai was good, a healthy portion, but it's hard to beat Thai Express in Clifton. The Mango Curry however was fabulous! My wife (who didn't like mangos going in) ate as much as I would allow her. She loved it. We got a 4 of 5 spicy, and it was just right for us. Enough to feel it, but not enough to make you cry and not enjoy the flavors. The leftovers the next day were just as good, and we can't wait to go back! This is a surprising little hidden gem! Great Thai food AND great sushi all in one spot. The atmosphere is really cute and the servers are extremely attentive. Their Pad Thai is delicious and authentic. I've yet to try other Thai dishes than that so far. They don't have as large of a variety of sushi as you would find at an only sushi restaurant, but they still have a great selection of traditional & specialty rolls, as well as nigiri and sashimi. You can even order a small or large sushi boat if you're looking to taste multiple things. I find their prices to be quite reasonable too, especially compared to other restaurants offering sushi in the area. They also have good house wine specials. It is almost mind-boggling and the menu really portrays that. It's one of the most extensive menus I've seen - pages & pages with lots of colors and pictures. In the nation that values options, I'm sure the fact that they offer so much can only be seen as a plus. So, of course... the main thing that's interesting: what did I order? I read a review raving about their mango chicken curry so I got that and voila. It was everything I had expected, creamy, filled with veggies and chicken, and sizable portion. They have "spiciness levels" ranging from 1-5. I opted for a 4 and found it NOT spicy at all (& I do not eat spicy food very well so I would just say, go with the 5). Also ordered the ginger salad which is very worth it. The portions are generous. For dessert, I got the tempura fried cheesecake. Now, this is obviously really decadent and rich but sometimes, you just want crunchy + sweet + creamy and it is exactly that. I'd get it again (although, if you get the mango curry and this together, it may be too much cream/heaviness in one meal). So, given the price, portion, the options, the ambiance (haven't mentioned it but it's great for casual dining), the dishes... they definitely deserve 4 stars in my books. read more

Mai Thai cranks out some pretty solid Thai food in my opinion. I'm not extremely well versed in what makes good Thai vs. bad, but of all the Thai restaurants I have been, I favor Mai Thai as one of my favorites. I really enjoyed the crab puffs - they were a play on crab ragoons, but were different in the sense that they were made with a thin crispy pastry and not the thick doughy material other Asian places use (or pull out if the freezer). Also, Mai Thai throws an interesting curve into the mix by serving the crab puffs with a sweet strawberry dipping sauce vs. the traditional sweet and sour sauce I am used to at other places; very well done in my opinion. I know this is the least creative of the sushi rolls to order, but my wife got a California roll and it was flawless as far as California rolls go - ingredients fresh, wrapper not chewy, and rice perfectly moist. Out entrees, Lo Mein and Thai Spicy Noodles were also very tasty. My wife commented that it was the best Lo Mein she had ever eaten and my Thai spicy noodles were bursting with flavor and just the right amount of heat. My only extremely mild knocks on the place is that they forgot my salad, and when I got it, although it was quite fresh, the ginger dressing lacked oil and vinegar. Also, I brought my two 6 month olds and the restaurant lacked accommodations to really situate out kids comfortably outside the car seat (we had to place the car seats in the booth with us which isn't a huge deal). Best Thai Food I've ever had! Restaurant was cute, ver clean and the service was great! We ordered the volcano and lava (I believe those were the names!) sushi rolls and both were amazing! I tried the won ton soup - this was just ok and I would pass on it next time. For my main dish I tried the mango curry at a level 2 - delicious!!!! My friend got the pineapple curry at a level 3 - it was a little to spicy for me and I perfered my mango curry 100%! I highly suggest eating here! read more
