Man oh man, are looks deceiving. On the outside Mai Thai resides within the carcass of a fast food joint that only aspires to be what it is now. I visited Mai Thai on the suggestion that "all the food" was good and definitely a hot spot to have lunch in Florence. I was pleasantly surprised! I saw a lot filled parking outside and worried for a moment if I would be encountering a lunch rush, but no such concern. Inside, I was directed to a seat and promptly given a menu. There's a lot of see and a lot of variety. I went with a standard California Roll and the Fried Tofu with Peanut Sauce appetizer. Both came out pretty quickly. The roll was rightfully cool and fresh, the tofu was warm and properly crispy! I have been spoiled before for how much sushi I can get for the price point, but I can't complain here because this was a quality roll. I'll come back to Mai Thai and sample some more goodies. If the quality goes across the board, you can't really go wrong. read more

Three words - love, love and love! They have really kicked the atmosphere up a notch. The curb appeal is adorable - they have fresh flowers, a very clean water fountain and several items of Asian décor on the outside of the restaurant. Very nice especially considering some of the neighbors (sorry, neighbors!) They recently added an addition to allow for much needed seating. There's a reason this place is super busy, folks! The food is simply amazing! I have a hard time falling off the beaten path of my all time fave - mango curry with chicken. I am a spicy girl - so I order a level 4 spiciness. I wouldn't recommend that if you have a softer palate. I also love the basil rice with chicken - yum! My hubby really likes the Spicy Thai chicken and orders a level 2 (he's the softie!) Visited while traveling. I carried out Pad Thai and shrimp soup. The Pad Thai was amazing, beautifully presented and could have fed 4 people! Shrimp soup was very unique and great flavor. My only complaint is the tails were in shrimp which makes for difficult eating from a hot soup. I have to work in Florence several times a year. Knowing I am going to get a chance to eat at this place for lunch makes the trip that much more pleasant. The food is tasty, the spice levels adjustable enough to make 99% of the customers happy, the service is always with a smile and the place has the customers to prove it every single day. If you plan on going there for lunch, don't be late or you will be standing at the door at 12:15 watching me eat. Highly recommend the Panang Curry and the Thai Spicy. I agree with everyone else who thought this restaurant was mediocre, at best. For some strange reason they do have a cult following for the restaurant was filled with guest. The sushi was subpar. The entree I ordered was blah. I ordered a spice level 3 (out of 4) and my 4 year old son who joined me for dinner said, "I thought this was supposed to be spicy!" I've experienced way better Thai food in Clifton for a fraction of the cost. I really wish I would have taken my $25 down the street to red lobster. Really this is a 3.5. The Tom Sum was good, not great. It was sweeter than normal and not as much citrus. The spicy Hamachi roll was great. I got the Spicy Thai at 4 hot. It was black pepper hot. I was expecting fresh pepper hot. I went against other review that suggested 3 hot and lost. My buddy said the rainbow roll was good and the Royal seafood he gave a c+. Seriously, if they would dim the lights, I'd go to 4 stars in a heartbeat. I had Green Curry with Chicken, heat 4 out of 4. I could have eaten it hotter, but it was very good and flavorful, and the ingredients were fresh and plentiful. My hubs had the Ginger Chicken and Vegetables at a heat of 2 and he said it was delicious and had a little bit of heat, which is just what he wanted. We also had the potstickers, which I will not order again. They were greasy and not browned enough. Ordered to go - mango chicken curry -I'd suggest spice level 3 since the sweet balances the spice.
